There's definitely promise here, I think people need to remember that all of these teams are brand new rosters as well. They haven't played together for a few years and they weren't allowed to tackle in training prior to the league kicking off, so I would expect that to improve pretty drastically as well. I like how this has started and the Wildcats vs Roughnecks game has been interesting so far as well. I really hope people give the XFL a chance to grow.

They went about things much more wisely this time around. This league has been years in the making, instead of just months. The teams had plenty of time to practice & get to know each other, the systems & the coaching styles before the games today. The first version went from announcement to showtime within 6 months & the teams weren't even finalized until 4-6 weeks before that first game. You can't do that & expect a quality product.

These smaller soccer stadiums are perfect for the XFL. Just look at that crowd!!! If all goes well and they are able to sell teams to private owners, I hope they consider cities with MLS soccer-specific stadiums to play in (i.e. Orlando, Salt Lake City and Columbus) You can tell that they did this right. Network television, ESPN coverage, weekend, daytime games, great uniforms and solid A+ production quality. This league has serious potential to be a long-term spring football league!

The MLS have some really good stadiums because most of them have been built within the last decade as well so that means they have some good facilities to use. It's a win win for the xfl and MLS here. MLS makes money renting out stadiums so soccer can grow in the US and the xfl gets world class facilities

@Andy Gygi I prefer the punt kickoff. Treat it like a 4th and 20, you can punt of go for it. I don't know how this method works for an onside kick, but, either there is no way to do a surprise one, or the defenders now have to run at least 15 yards to get to the ball, only being able to run after the ball has either hit the ground or hit the returner. This way is definitely better than NFL, but unless there are situation specific exceptions, this will shorten a good number of games.

I admit one of the great things is the different rules that can make it different and more exciting. The old XFL actually brought in those over the field camera's, and the NFL realized that was a great idea

I was there, great experience. As an Eagles fan in DC going to games at FedEx is awful. It’s a terrible stadium the and the crowd sucks. This felt like an NFL game in-person. Definitely see potential.

Lord of the banks Bocaj childsroth I liked the AAF, but it seemed destined to fail. The XFL has the finances backing it to last a few years while it takes losses, but gains a fan base. So, I actually can see this league stick around. Plus, the overall play was much better than the AAF. I mean they played very good football.

crazyken productions, aaf did a lot of things right but were not financially structured well since a main investor left week 1 and then they left all control to one man because he had money. And that guy had a different vision for the league and basically shut it down because things didn’t go his way. The aaf wanted to last 3 years before trying to get practice squad members but he wanted it immediately or he would shut the league down. Which he did.

If you look at it, it's because of some of the rule changes and tweaks. A lot of the tweaks were set up for either A, making the game more fun, a la XFL's new PAT system, or like the kickoff one which is made to reduce chance of injury

All around it's looking much better than AAF. Not sure if it's just the cameras being more like the way NFL shoots their games, or because they were able to get better talent in this league, but watching the AAF the guys seemed like they were moving in slow motion. Here it looks at least close to NFL gamespeed.

This appears to be a great league. I can’t wait. Even as a St. Louis Battlehawks fan living in New York, I’m going to watch all four games every weekend. The advancements in player safety and entertainment far exceeded my expectations, and what the NFL calls entertaining football.

Brandon Bate one of the big things is during kick-offs and punts, the kicking teams defense can’t move until the receiving team has secured the football. This prevents full-on collisions.

If there is one thing that went wrong for Urban, it was the handling of Cardale Jones. Granted, Cardale did not help his case by being extremely inconsistent in 2015, but that entire situation is why hes in the XFL.

If it can survive the next 5 years and hold onto that niche of having another highly competitive league during the spring I think it will be around for the next 15-20 years with decent viewership. I’m hopeful for it, it seems well put together and thought out this second time around!

it won't be extended, unless they want a union to form. right now, player safety is a priority with a shorter season; league-provided, fully comprehensive healthcare; and specific rules in place to limit the chance of injury. keeping the players happy leads to a better atmosphere all around.

Keep in mind though, the first XFL had a great turnout 1st game too. Then, people became aware of the lack of talent on the field and stopped watching. We will have to see how it goes down the line. Still a great 1st game nonetheless!

Unfortunately, unless they can somehow pay players like the NFL does and start to steal great players this league will have no effect on the NFL or it's rules. I do see it as a potential minor league type situation for players who still need development before getting a shot into the NFL. I still like what I see on the field though.

This was great. Play was crisp. Production was crisp. You can tell Vince Mcmahon didn't rush this version of the XFL on the field like he did 20 years ago. This version has a legit chance of making it last.

You can't expect the players to be on that level when the league is pulling mostly from nfl practice squads and draft busts. But, again, that doesn't mean the overall skill level won't grow over time if given the chance.
