Awesome!! I love when they interact with the people. Sometimes that is the first interaction people have with the horses!! I love horses and I retired from showing and eventing some years ago.
Dispatch: We have a call of a mugging on 9th heading towards 11th Ave. Harvest: I know where that is! Follow me! Jet: How do you know this? Harvest: There is pie shop on the corner of 11th & 9th!
@@mala3isity I wasn't assigned to the mounted unit. I've been to the stables where the horses live, they are very well cared for. There are farriers working there and they have large outdoor areas where they can trot around, it located to the park system of Philadelphia. I actually processed an arrest where a drunk punched one of our horses.
@@treaty92 Thank you, sir, for your service and your answer. Words get around a workplace and I thought you might've heard about the horses. I'm happy you actually went to see them. It's good to know they get to play, too. :) I hope the horse paid the drunk guy back. I used to care for my ex-BIL's rodeo horses and I know they have a long memory. Years down the road, that horse will see that guy and who knows what'll happen? Maybe the horse is the forgiving type. "He was totally wasted, I don't hold it against him."
Amazing animals. Once you have a horse's trust a whole new experience is opened up to you. Mounted cops are awesome. I am learning to drive horse drawn carriages and loving it. Just need to loose weight and eventually i'll get my own horse or two.
That's cool . But I would find it really hard for me to ride a horse so slow and comely after being a jockey for a long time Lol .But we need more of this .
i know how you feel. i used to compete in eventing... my thing was show jumping.... if i was mounted cop, ide just want to jump every fence i see! hahaha im guessing you miss working with horses as much as i do?
Love it. My horse would take popsicles away from me. Her favorite was grape. She also would drink my coca cola. Great memories of my sweet girl, Trixie.Love and miss you and Comanche, sweet girl.
Long shank bits............people, you do not want to control the horse through pain, fear, and intimidation. Check out how the Houston Mounted Patrol trains and equips their horses.
Kerry Mulholland His heels are still pointed down. Your knees aren't supposed to be 90 degrees either, it's all up to what is comfortable for the rider. They are on a horse all day
Maybe not so many donuts occifer and you won’t break the horses back🤷🏻♀️ could you imagine lugging tubby on your back all day? Officers should train as much as the steed.
Only problem is not all horses take to the bitless bridle and the training costs would probably astronomical for them given how many horses they likely have. It's a nice dream, but I imagine they would have to implement the bitless training in with the initial at the start of the horses career and filter the others out as they get older ..
@@gerrycoleman7290 I train horses, been working them all my.life. I have never heard such a bull shit thing as that ... ever. Control is not just yanking or pulling on the bit, some people do more harm than good. There are many factors and ques that go into control. Not just the bit.
Are those kind of bits really neccesery?? You are literally just walking through the town.. Seriously Tom Thumb bits are so unnececerily cruel to horses. And they have freaking giant a** spurs too, like come the frick on These police man should be showning a good example to everyone, clearly they are not Now I am not the person who attacks everyone that rides in bits, a simple snaffle is fine. I mean you do you boo, but those kind of bits are really cruel..
When I was 10 if rode in a Tom Thumb bit, they need some lessons on what damage they are doing to their horses with those unbelievably cruel bits and sharp spurs. What is this the wild west?
Lisa Allred Mules also are more prone to be stubborn jerks and are a lot smaller than the draft horses that are most commonly used by mounted police officers.
Mackenzie Smith You are incorrect. I have had horses & mules all my life. Mules are more reliable, sure footed cautious. They also will form a closer bond, mine follow me like dogs. Most of my mules were draft mules with a draft horse as the mare & they are quite large.
@@maxxzie3870 you are wrong, some can be jerks, just like people, mules come in all sizes and a good one is worth his weight in cold. You don't know what you are talking about.
@@JK-lp6uw thanks for replying to a comment I made three years ago. I'm much more educated on mules now. I still prefer horses, but understand where you're coming from
@@gerrycoleman7290 you are a numb skull. Worried about the horses being afraid? You think spurs correct that? Spurs are mainly a training aid, because someone is wearing spurs does not mean that they actually use them. Sometimes just a slight tap with the spurs will coax them to do what the rider wants. Zip your mouth. You are clueless.
