Here's the thing with Mike MacDonald. Do we want to follow the trends or get ahead of them? "Maybe" the next step in NFL coaching evolution is great young defensive minds to combat the young offensive guys. When Pete came in the big thing was small DBs who you lined up against big WRs. Pete chose to go a new route and get big DBs to size up well against what offenses were showing. He was in front of the curve and MAYBE Mike MacDonald is the beginning of the next trend...that said, Ben Johnson is still my top option

yes, this is exactly how it works. its life at large. things go through cycles. running backs will eventually start making justifiable money again... youre right imo, we should probably get 'ahead of the curve' and hire Macdonald

Brendon , as a Lions fan I can totally understand your apprehension about Aaron Glenn. I would point out a few things in his defense. He’s had to be the DC for a defense that has not had a legit number one cornerback the entire season. There’s no denying that Lions defense are giving up a lot of yards to opposing teams receivers, but once Glenn made schematic and personnel changes about about six weeks ago, the Lions defense has improved. They’re getting more sacks, turnovers, and limiting the number of points teams have scored. They held Dallas to 20 points, they held the Vikings to 24 and 23 points, they held the Rams to 23 points. So there is improvement there. And that improvement would not have happened had Aaron Glenn remained stubborn and not made changes. His willingness to change when something is not working is a good quality; when something isn’t working, try something else. It may not be persuasive to you, or other Seahawks fans, but Aaron Glenn was voted the top coordinator by the NFL players, that’s offense or defense. He is a leader of men, as is our current coach Dan Campbell. And last point in his defense, Mike Vrabel was DC for one year of the worst defense in the NFL in Houston. But he turned out to be a pretty good head coach. I’m not saying you should hire Glenn, but I would suggest he’s a better candidate than you appear to be giving him credit for. And because there are so many good candidates available, I think Glenn will be back in Detroit next year.

I would love MacDonald. I do think you are underselling the talent on Ravens D tho. They have 2 all-pros and a lot of good talent around that (ex. Marlon H, Marcus Williams, Queen, I don't even think Clowney as bad as you think). Just thought I'd say my 2 cents because I've heard you mention this a few times.

I know people really want an offensive HC, because that's where the league is right now, but I wouldn't be mad with a defensive one. It just seems like our defenses have the pieces, they just don't have the coaching. It was a largely offensive league the last time we went to the superbowl, too, to the point where people thought the very offensive-minded Broncos were going to stomp us. Didn't work out that way. So if we have the RIGHT defensive coach, I'm good with it. That said, I think the most likely choices based on grumblings are Quinn, Vrabel, and MacDonald. I would love it if we got Smith, though. Agreed with pretty much everyone on your good or better list - wouldn't be mad with any of them.

Canales is off to Carolina. Johnson is a near lock for Washington. Macdonald is a Michigan guy and will probably replace Harbaugh there (and make huge $$). Quinn has probably been a lock for the Seahawks for the Seahawks job all along.

Graham is trash. One good year that’s it. Graham was the DC to the tanking Dolphins and the D was 32nd, and beyond terrible. Graham was the DC last year for the raiders and that D was terrible. Ranked like 26th. So, no thank you to Graham. The best candidate on that list is Macdonald. He’s had a top 10 D everywhere he’s been a DC. The Ravens were 8th best D last year, and number 1 overall this year. Seahawks brass is wanting a defensive HC. Quinn won’t be here. My prediction is either Vrabel or Macdonald. They’ve already stated they want to interview Macdonald and are just waiting for the Racens to be eliminated or after the SB, if they win it all. I’ve predicted at the beginning of the season that the Ravens will win it all, but they won’t. I love Baltimore but with the whole Taylor Swift thing in KC, the chiefs will beat Baltimore this weekend. I’m not happy about it, but that’s what’s gonna happen. It’s all about money in the NFL. The SB will be the Chiefs vs the Lions, and the Chiefs will win it all.

Ben Johnson would take the Seahawks to the next level. I don’t have a whole lot of faith in our general manager, considering he floated a lot of ideas during last year’s draft that he was looking at getting a quarterback and that never happened so the fact that he’s going to go with an offensive minded head coach is starting to fade for me, I just hope we don’t end up with someone like Dan Quinn

I'm on team Evero. Everyone is going offensive mind, better to zag when others zig. Seahawks defense has been bottom half or bottom third of the league for 7ish years, so it was time for a change, but I'm good with maintaining a defensive bias at the top.

Shane Clint & Pete had serious bad luck. Just look at Jamal Adams v v unlucky injuries after a great 1st season. SO GET A HC that is lucky like Belichick Walsh w lucky QB's like 6th rd Brady & Geno & pick 12 Mahomes. ...The Lord still decides results & luck is one of the gifts he gives to the truly good & truly humble. Don't know how you could call Harbaugh a dream. The guy is an antithesis to the Seahawks culture that was built by Carroll and is clearly valued by the organization and so many fans. Y'all forget about the rivalry too? It blows my mind. That dude isn't welcome in Seattle. Glad he's out as a candidate.

It's not plug and play with all coaches, some work well in places, and some don't, depending on a slew of factors. Judging by Schneider's press conference, Hawk leadership gets it. In part that's why we're saying BYE HARBAUGH, you were never in contention.

If you listen to Nashville media, it seems like Vrabel was overly abrasive with players. Butted heads, etc. It's notable that Seattle hasn't even shown interest in him. Probably not a culture fit?

Literally dont understand why on Gods earth you’d say Jim Harbaugh is the dream. He has been the direct rival to Seahawk culture sonce he was hired and fired in SF. With Pete disliking him, Baldwin not liking him, Sherm not liking him, why on earth would Jim Harbaugh be the dream. He’s an ass and im glad he went to LA so the Seahawks front office won’t even glance at him. If you like Harbaugh I question your loyalty to the franchise and the city. You can win with or without the enemy. He is undoubtedly the enemy and no one in Seattle should root for him if he had become our head coach. Absolute joke.
