Thank you for sharing these types of videos. I would love to hear how you use Abeka LA. I did 100 easy lessons with my oldest, but we struggled to find a follow up for that this year for first grade and we lost a lot of ground. I want to try something different for my next child when we start K in a few years.

We love MWC too. We’ve been using it from the beginning alongside TGTB language arts. And will continue that next year for Second Grade 😊 I’ve never tried Abeka but I’ve loved TGTB so much I haven’t needed to try anything else. I hope your school year goes well!

Sounds like great curriculum choices! My girls are using TGTB Handwriting, Language Arts, and Math, which they love. Currently we can not afford curriculum at all, and I know this is the best free curriculum out there. Plus, they love it and are strong readers! My second grader struggled with transitioning from first to second grade, which got noticeably harder in TGTB, but we stuck it out and now she has adjusted. My first grader has a strong LA foundation, and is excited to learn more phonics and reading! They don't quite like math but are good at it. Sorry for the chatty comment 😂

I am excited for your video on how you're making Abeka work. I am also looking to switch to Abeka for phonics. I've considered All About Reading as well, but I've surprised myself with leaning towards Abeka. I have just heard such good things. We used TGTB for our first 3 years, and switched to MB this year when it wasn't working. However, I have noticed some regression with my 2nd grader and his phonics. So, re-evaluating for him and my kindergartener.

Great video! I would love to see how you modify abeka to work for y’all 🙏🏼 considering switching but it seems so rigorous. I would love to see your point of view on it. Maybe even a sample lesson ?

We also were not fans of TGATB Level 1. The apps and books are great but we felt the curriculum was all over the place. It was hard for my son to follow all of it and we switched earlier in the year. Once we switched he did great! Good to know that Abeka is a good option too. I learned how to read with Abeka because my school used it :-)

My kids don’t kno their grade or care!!! I love MWC!!! We had to switch from TGTB for phonics!!! I love the ordinary parents guide to teaching reading and it’s helping my kids learn phonics!!! We’ve turned into a classical homeschoolers!!! My older kids love TGTB language arts!!!

Would love to see how you modify abeka because I'm also using it for my son for 1st grade and he is not the best at doing lots and lots of workbooks. The basic phonics flashcards have been amazing at boosting his reading skills. I'm not super confident what we can cut from the workbooks though, and I don't want to overwhelm him.

First year homeschooling. We are using GB for LA and ABEKA for math I think next year I want to switch to A BEKA I like their curriculum better.

I see you use Sonlight, I am curious why you don't use Sonlight LA. I am also trying to decide if we need to shift LA programmes.

I actually started using Abeka readers with TGTB LA K looking forward to continue with level 1. I felt TGTB readers were too easy compared to the curriculum. Abeka readers teach comprehension and phonics throughout and applies it immediately in the story! Love it! I haven't tried any of the other Abeka LA so looking forward to your review. However just purchased Explode the Code 2-4 on sale to increase phonics what do you think about it as a supplement? Does Abeka have something like explode the code?

I grew up on Abeka in the private school I went to. So excited to see you use Abeka! Did you get the student workbooks unbound and did you bind them yourself? Or is there a pdf purchase option I didn't see?

Hi! We're a newer homeschooling family and also switching from TGTB to Abeka for LA. Do you feel the readers are necessary if the child is a strong reader and reads a lot of books already? I am not very familiar with Abeka so I'm trying to find all the information I can.

It depends which grade you're going into. If they're still learning phonics then the readers are really great for reinforcing the lessons. Otherwise, I wouldn't worry with readers as long as they're reading lots of other books. :)
