That BJU Reading looks pretty awesome. Love that you can do the reader and student work text without the teacher’s guide. I might just have to look into that for future years for my little one 😅
Good Afternoon! We have a rising 2nd grader also, she's using pretty much all Abeka (Reading Comp 2, Arithmetic 2, Language 2, Spelling 2) plus Explode The Code 4 as enrichment. Her learning style is "straight to the point" traditional, so we try to sprinkle in Charlotte Mason into our History and Sciences instead with lots of picture books, activities, and hands on things. Im eye-balling that cursive penmenship book though from TGTB 👀 lol It looks enjoyable compared to others I've seen! Those BJU readers look so pretty too! ❤️
That’s my ideal too! (Traditional LA and more Charlotte Mason history and science) but all my kids all have varying preferences. But yes, the handwriting is great!
Love that you are going to do the old TGTB math! We switched from simply beautiful too. My youngest is doing Math With Confidence and my middle is now doing Apologia. I like both but after just a few days doing Apologia, I think I prefer that one over MWC
Thank you so very much for sharing all your experience and knowledge on homeschooling! Your videos are lovely and so well organized! Thank you for showing the contents of each book! In this way we can see what the child needs to accomplish! Many blessings to you and all your subscribers!
Looks like great picks! I remember watching a video of someone who bought the entire BJU curriculum for their child for one year and i was so shocked at how many workbooks they pulled out. It was so overwhelming to watch so I definetly hear you on why you didn't need the extra stuff. My girl will be in 2nd next year also! My son is 3 so we will just be doing preschool things with him but i hear once you start 3rd it gets a little harder so we shall see. Thank God for curriculum that guides the parent!!!
We did TGATB 2nd grade this year, and I can't remember any situation where the readers were directly addressed in the main book. So, it should be super easy to add the BJU stuff!
I used both started with TGTB and ended up with BJU after 2nd quarter. BJU reading is nice the videos are about 20-25 minutes but she is learning so much!
Nice curriculum choices. We also use TGTB's original math line. We never moved to the new updated SGBM just because I could tell up front, it wasn't going to be a good fit. The original math line continues to do the job and does it well.
Love your picks! I have an upcoming second grader too. We are doing TGTB level 2 as well but doinf bju for spelling because the level 1 TGTB spelling wasnt a great fit for us. I am going to look into the bju readers though because they look good!
I've been watching you for as long as I can remember.... how did I not realize our girls are in the same grade!? 🤦♀️ you're going to have an awesome year! We're doing LOE Foundations D and CLE Math 2 this year. Can't wait to hear how your year goes!
So far I am loving math with confidence for my kindergartener and second grader. Have you noticed a big difference with the new good and the beautiful language arts compared to the older edition? I am assuming you may have tried the older one. Not sure though.
Hello, so my son will be in second grade next year so I am looking for some readers and wondering what you think about Abeka books compared with BJU? I am headed to our local homeschool thrift store to check out readers. With some "look insides" I like how Abeka has character building in their readers, but I guess I need to search that on RU-vid next. My son is still doing TGTB but I feel like I supplement so much for him bc its too easy/quick. Next, year I want to get the Abeka reading comprehension 2 as well as the readers. We do explode the code as supplemental practice, we do sight words and writer's workshop some days. He loves cursive, we are doing CC so I picked up one of their cursive books along with level 3 TGTB so he can switch it up. It's going really well. We did Horizon for math and sticking with it. My 4 year old wants to do cursive so I like that option with Abeka as well. She is starting Kinder in January because preschool/kinder prep TGTB was too easy for her. So, I wanted to try Abeka Kinder to see what it's all about, I started a few lessons already and I like it. There's just so much out there I told myself I didn't want to switch up so much and just stick to 1 curriculum and differentiate it with each of my children's learning styles, but I guess that's the beauty of homeschool. Or is it?
It’s so funny! I emailed the good and the beautiful to see if I could get my hands on their older version bc their new math my son loves but i am wanting better foundation. So we’ve narrowed it down to apologia and MWC bc tgtb said they cannot share older versions but I feel like we prob would have loved it! I have no clue whjch to pick though! Debating doing both but then my son also saw an Abeka workbook flip through and said he wanted to do that 🙃 for practice
You can still buy the old versions on Facebook curriculum resell pages! I need to add back in Abeka for some extra practice for her too! She doesn’t love it but it’s a really good supplement
@@thepracticalhomeschooler I am so glad to hear the abeka is good for extra practice! Many have said MWC and Apologia would be enough but I know he has been exposed to a lot so I hate to not have him at least review some of it still. I did consider that and still am I may try to find some look throughs on youtube before tryign to find them. I was nervous I'd not be able to find a level and have to switch in the long run anyways but if it feels like it's the best fit I may just put in the work to find it! Is that what you are going to be doing for your older two also?
I bought math levels 1-3 of the original TGATB when they were hugely discounted and they’ve been sitting on my shelves also. I’ve been struggling with making the decision to just do them or try Christian Light Education’s math next year. We are currently using the Simply Good and Beautiful math for K and 2nd and I don’t care for them much so I’m worried I won’t like the others either. I’m also worried it will take too much time.
We have some of the same picks. We are about 20 lessons into TGTB level 2 LA & we love it. We are are using the old math 3 in August! (Found it new on Poshmark) I prefer the old math and was so happy 😁 we love all the games/hands on in the old levels.
how can i get the old level one to 3 maths for the good and beautiful, kindly guide me where i can get them from and what do you recommend for language and art and science please kindly recommend
My biggest thing that I've been debating so much is tgatb math it's advanced but I luv the lessons except sum r a Lil more heavy on games but in math lvl 1 they don't do many problems I'm assuming becuz of the games. I've thought of switching but idk which to switch to any ty for ur vid it dies help also I think the reading wuld b perfect for wat I want to do. Also science wat r u using for that I've done tgatb and like it but curious about wat else to use.
