A lot has happened since I last posted a video.
Firstly, and most importantly, I sat for my PPLA knowledge exam, and am glad to inform that I was successful! I believe that this was one of my major hurdles on the journey to gaining my PPL, and I am so happy and relieved that I was successful.
I did have a flight last week but due to sound failure, and a memory card that was a little too full, I didn’t capture a large portion of the flight, so I didn’t bother posting it.
In today’s flights, the first was a solo check flight just to make sure that my flying skills hadn’t declined and also to practice a few more advanced manoeuvres. The first item my instructor put me through was a simulated engine failure, then we moved on to steep turns and then on to some further simulated instrument flying, which I’m glad to say that I am starting to get a better handle on. We then headed back to Bankstown via Prospect Reservoir. Not one of best landings to date, as I ballooned a little, but no where near my worst.
My solo flight, once again, I felt to be better than my first flight of the day, even though it had gotten quite a bit bumpier than on the first flight. Once again I felt relaxed, on point and all in the world was good. Needless to say again I thoroughly enjoyed my second solo flight in the training area. Whilst I was up alone, I practiced some more steep turns, flew around the training area for a while in the vicinity of the new airport. I then tracked back to Bankstown, this time via 2RN, just to be sure that I could find it on my own. On my first approach, I had to do a go around as the plane I was following had only just left the runway as I was short final and I still hadn’t obtained clearance to land. Hand on the throttle ready for a go around, as I hadn’t heard the magic words. And sure enough, just before the runway, tower instructed me to go around. You know what they say in aviation, landing an Airplane is an aborted go around. Always be prepared to go around if anything doesn’t feel quite right!
By this time a bit of a cross wind had picked up, and once again, not one of by best landings.
Who knows? I might have some interesting news in a couple of weeks time.
Once again more technical issues with the sound. I think it may be time to upgrade my Hero 5. But to my credit I managed to add a mish mash of background music to the video, so that you don’t have to put up with the drone of the airplane engine.
