One of my history teachers used your videos when I told her "Hey can you watch this guy called simple history" She's like "Uhh let me see who he or she is" She saw you and played it when we were learning one of our modern historys
If anyone is interested in learning more about this type of thing, I suggest the book "Spycraft: The Secret Histroy of the CIA's Spytechs from Communism to Al-Qaeda". A very fascinating look at the gadgets and tactics used by spies of both sides throughout the latter half of the 20th Centruy.
@Gamer929andminecraft W.I.P. prob on tablet i had that problem too. He tried to type this fast i think because the o on a tablet is next to the p so...
The hollowed coin is most interesting (since I first seen it in Tom Hanks' bridge of spies which left quite an impression on me) imagine needing to carry dozens of classified information then using that method in a country that uses coins as main currency
It took Georgie Markov days to die, during his death in a hospital he described waiting at a bus station and a man poking him with a umbrella. no one thought it to be an association until after he died and an autopsy was done, they found the very small pellet and underneath a microscope found microscopic holes drilled into the pellet that allowed it to hold the ricin. The sophistication of the weapon and concealment, along with the necessary manufacturing process to drill microscopic holes in something. Implied that a government and not a rouge assassin was involved with at least the manufacture of the weapon.
I didn't have pen before a test so I just took one from my teacher desk. When I was done with the test I looked back at the beginning to see what I've written only to find out that it was all gone. So that's how I found out that my teacher was working for the KGB, also I got an F on the test...
The coin one has a neat story to it. Back 100 years ago in 1980 something this paper boy recieved a few coins as payment for delivering papers. This one coin however had secret lines of code, when the boy dropped the coin it broke in two parts and the police were notified
About Minox, it comes from VEF (Latvian industry) and it's one of the most best gadgets made by Latvia in 20th century. Later by Soviets (i think it was in 1943) they made new a bit larger version, that could kill by explosion somebody, who is using it incorrect ( also upgraded by VEF, but this time with Soviet help)
I actually have a Minolta 16 camera which looks just exactly like that. It was given to me by my Grandfather who use the camera during the Vietnam War.
When you thought ac liberation's parasol gun was fiction... Aveline on her lady persona would have her blowpipe in a form of a parasol. It can shoot sleep darts, or toxic berserk darts.
I happened to know Georgi Markov's family in Italy in the early 70' , the day after the assassination of Georgi they disappeared, they took literally the first flight out for Toronto if I remember right
interesting idea with the hollowed out coin there some countries have huge coins, those could easily be used to transport whatever you can even xray them very intriguing
As cool as assassination weapons might be they were probably the least used of the gadgets here. Usually assassinations happen in wartime and usually involve weapons that are simple and handy. During WWII it was rather common for the secret agencies to use foreign pistols, such as those made in Spain to disguise where they came from. I suppose the mini-camera was the most important gadget shown here because it could take pictures not just of certain places but also of documents as well, they even came with a special chain attached to it so the photographer could get the right distance to photograph an entire document.
That's cool about the chain for quick and accurate measurement to know you are getting a standard 9x13 or whatever size they had it set to, not an issue one would think of today with screens to immediately view any picture we take.
I invented my own gadget at school: 1) get blue tac 2) put the blue tac at the tip of your shoe 3) put something sharp on the blue tac e.g a pin 4) kick people until they BLEED
