Inspired by photos on Instagram of a stunning rock formation and a book called Secret Cornwall, we set out to find Nanjizal Bay.
Joins us as we walk through farmland and tracks to reach this special cove, litter with pebble the size of dinosaur eggs and a scramble over some hefty rocks, we eventually reach the marvel, the Song of the Sea.
This walk, is a there and back walk. We park in Trevescan, a little hamlet near Lands End, walk via footpaths down to Nanjizal Bay. This walk in total is just over 2 miles.

Thank you got sharing this. When I was younger me and my family used to do this walk while staying near lands end regularly. Right off the beaten track! Sometimes it can transform into a sandy cove at the whim of the sea. Such lovely memories ☺️ Also that pool in the song of the sea is freeeeezing 😂😂 getting your full body in there is for the brave!!

We went here on Monday after watching your video, we did get lost when crossing the fields, so took us a little bit longer, it then rained really heavy as we were ‘plunging’ down to the beach, but then the sun came out at it was lovely and spent sometime down there. The tide was out and the beach was absolutely stunning, So glad I found your channel.

Still happily and steadily working my way through CWT's wonderful back catalogue! The 'Song of the Sea' feature in the secret cove in Nanjizal Bay, with its reflecting pool, is magical...thank you for trekking down there and scrambling over those boulders! to show us this beautiful formation. It's now a definite 'must see' when next down that way. That's why I love Cornwall, and why it always beckons me back...if you're prepared to make the effort, it suddenly gifts these amazing surprises 😊

Really lovely to see this cave again. We walked past it on our way from Sennen to Porthcurno in July :-) And we wondered a bit where "your" path led to. We continued uphill on the steps/path above and a bit to the left from the cave. I am so happy you went closer to get a better look. We just stopped for a moment on the path and continued our walk. You (and we) should really have taken a swim :-) Perhaps next time ;-) Thank you for sharing :-) I enjoy these videos so much!

Oh my.....Too challenging for me these days, which is why I love your videos, as you take us to places I cannot reach anymore. Simply fab. When you are next up on the North Coast, go and visit the new bridge at Tintagel for us! I think that it was opened recently to the public. I won't be able to get there this year when we come at the end of September as we are in the depths of the Southern end of Cornwall this time! Near Nanjizal actually, but will have to look at your vid again if I want to see it in all its glory! J x

Hi Sarah & Andrew, the Diamond Horse is the pinnacle like rock at the western end of the bay. It doesn`t actually refer to an equine animal, but a "horse" of ground, a Cornish miners term for a pillar of non mineralised rock left as a roof support in the mine. Other examples are The Horse at Ralph`s Cupboard just west of Portreath, and the Tobban Horse west of Porthtowan, both on the North Cornwall coast path.

Great film as ever guy's and I was keen to see what you made of Nanjizal. Its over ten years since I was last there and it was good to see it again. How you saw it is how I first saw it many years ago. But did you know some years it is covered in golden sand!? A Cornish woman from near Buryan where I was staying once told me and not ever seeing it covered in sand I found it hard to believe. I was in Penwith for the eclipse and visited then, no sand. But I have been both in winter when sheets of ice form on the rocks as water oozes over them and in summer when its hot and all of those boulders you can see in your film were covered in sand. If you look at your film you can see a blue batch a few hundred yards out in the sea. This is likely where the sand is as when the winter storms strike it can suck the sand off the beach and from a sand bar. I have seen this at low water. The flat plateaux that Andrew speculated about is the site of another arch that was swept away during the winter storms. For anyone who is interested in the history of the area there is a book by a man called TJ Blight. He lived in the 1800's and lived in Penzance. The story of his life is sad but he wrote a definitive book on the flora, fauna and geography of the Lands End peninsula. His line drawings are sometimes found in antique shops in the area. He actually visited Lamorna Cove when it was a working quarry. I manage to buy a facsimile of it in Trago of all places some years back and I think it's a treasure. Thanks for sharing, your video's are great, a ray of sunshine even when it isn't! Cheers and thank you once again.

I purchased some postcards of it at a fair in Padstow. I asked the artist what the place was called, and she told me. Like you I got an OS map. It was quite a walk and it was around 4pm when we started. When you get to the drop at the end, we stumbled down the rock face. I never saw that stepped path that you walked down. It was back in 2005 that I was there. I took plenty of amazing pics and videos though, and we were the only ones there.

Fellow intrepid explorers just a map and we are off! I agree, quite a trek. I want to try and make it back there this winter, to see some heavy seas crashing though - not sure if it will be a spectacle of not, but I a curious, Sarah :)

@@CornishWalkingTrails Just like you I had a job finding it. Thank God for the OS map!! I parked outside a cottage down the lane, and walked up the side of peoples gardens and drives. Then went through the farmyard. It was a hot sunny day in October!! My g/f would not walk down the steep cliff so I went on my own. There was no one there and I took some amazing pics and videos of the sea crashing through the eye of the needle. Unfortunately that g/f stole one of my cameras with the SD cards when we split up 10 years ago. I am hoping to go back there on my own this year. Some of my other fave places are St. Ives, Polperro, Sennen Cove, Tintagel, and Holywell Bay. I took my elderly Mum there around 15 years ago and drove down the track ( footpath ) to the beach. The tide came in and Mum started screaming as she thought the car was gonna get washed out to sea! I used to love sitting behind the rocks in Perranporth reading a book in the sun. I can't remember if it was there or more likely Holywell Bay where a stream ran down the L/H side of the beach, perhaps you know? That place is heaven to me! I never go to Lands End anymore since they commercialised and ruined it years ago. I love Boscastle too, from long before the flood and afterwards. I went down for the grand re-opening of the Wellington pub there after the flood. There was a series on tv at the time called "An Island Parish" with the vicar and the locals, which I used to watch. I met them all in the "Welly" and had a good chat with them all. There was a BBC South or South West news crew in the pub filming it all. I love finding the hidden coves and quiet places. I had a right job to find Golitha Falls years ago. My Sat Nav was useless, and the few signs were covered up by the overgrown hedgerows. I persevered and found it eventually!! I think if I spend what time I have left that I still will never get to see all of the amazing places in Cornwall. I feel sorry for the locals, most of whom can't afford to live there anymore, because of rich Londoners with their 2nd homes ramping up the prices. I feel sorry for the Cornish fishermen too ( and one Cornish fisherwoman ) who struggle to make a living because of the daft EU laws. I don't expect Boris the Clown will sort our fishing rights out either after Brexit. He can never be trusted, just like Trump! I want Cornwall's landscape to stay as it has always been. Rugged and beautiful for all to enjoy. When I was a kid the only things at Lands End were The First and the Last, a hotel and the famous signpost. Look at it now, it's disgraceful. Cornwall is the most special magical place in the UK, followed by here in Dorset where I am. Love your videos, keep em coming!!! x x x
