I have wrestled this gelling issue for 7 years and I’ve found the culprit. Crazy cold weather for us has made my tractor unusable. Check out my other videos! LIKE and SUBSCRIBE so you don’t miss out! Thanks for watching and God Bless!!

Speak to the supplier of your diesel, find out when / if they start putting winter diesel in the pumps. Make sure you run it for a month or so before winter. One supplier in our area pumps winter for the off-road year round. Where you are, I bet they cycle it out in the summer. Much further north than us, it is pretty much winter formula year round, here we get a mix. If you have equipment you dont run much, the summer formula wont get completely flushed out of it. Many off road suppliers dont sell enough to get it cycled out of their tanks.

It may tell in your manual about using #1 diesel or kerosene in extreme cold conditions. Ive only had to do it once in my life with a diesel. Our weather just doesn't get that cold. Im surprised the old goat didn't fire off when you tried to crank it. I've actually started mine at 0 degrees without plugging it up. Oh well, I think spring may be rearing its head around here now. Our temps are pretty nice for this time of year. Stay safe brother.

I found out later that what I had done was pulling my cat 289d3 up and fueled it up without starting the truck in negative temps. I think between negative temps and pumping a bunch of fuel I killed the battery the day before. And then being cold it didn’t have what it took to roll her over. It was after the video that it clicked. Thanks for all the comments. I’ll check the Manual see what’s up. Thanks for be the tip!

I've never really struggled with gelled fuel till this year, even with treating 3x it was still gelling on me.

I have dealt with it every year since new with this tractor. It’s been a hassle but I don’t have to deal with it all that often as it’s not usually this cold here. Thanks for all the comments!!

#1 diesel aka kerosene works great! I wouldn't go no more than 10-15% blend. I've been caught in -10 actual temp and didn't gel with the 10-15% blend

The issue is the micro size screen in the filter tube. Even thinning it with kerosene or some of the greatest anti gel the fuel is still going to get a haze and almost a slush look to it. It’s hard to get it through this minute of a filter especially on a gravity feed.

@poorfarm-nn6ii oh I don't doubt that a bit. Sometimes OEMs put to much BS in place

Doesn't that line go straight to a filter on the engine?

Yeah it goes to my fuel/water separator filter. But on a cat mini ex we had it clog right as if goes Into that housing. In the line. So I don’t wanna send that trash from the factory to my new fuel filter I just replaced.
