This is one story among millions that are still hidden away and slowly disappearing as time goes on, yet it is a testament to the horrors that were brought upon villages through out this time and place that reflect the lives of innocent people who with no fault of there own were cast into war. The people of today can only watch and try to understand what they had to go through during this time and for but a single moment in our lives to watch movies such as these we can only pry that this will never happen again.

Let's not forget that the vast majority of Austrians supported joining Germany. And that a lot of the top Nazis during the war were Austrians. The opposition got more support only when Germany started to lose the war. And it was better to be separated from the fate of Germany.

What on Earth do you mean by Holly(woke)wood? Yes, the movie is very good. But is being woke - which just mean you are aware of hostorical injustices and stand for equality for all - wrong? If you look at history and fascism I would say: no. More people should be ‘woke’.

@@victorvandenbelt2179 woke, at least some definitions, is certainly not only about being "aware of historical injustices and stand for equality for all"... Especially when movies/entertainment start twisting history to push a progressive agenda. A common one being resistance fighter movements (such as the French one) fighting for freedom for the French - yet somehow now it's being portrayed as them fighting for the freedom of ethnic minorities, homosexual people, trans people, etc. The vast majority of these resistance fighters would have been considered fairly conservative in today's politics. Many movies seem to portray Germans/Nazis as standing for everything evil and wrong in the world from TODAY'S political perspective, not the one during WWII.

@@AlphaChinozYou need to move on brother, history isn’t your strong suit. I e yet to see a movie about the French Resistance and trans people. I think you’re the one with the problem. Also, a good number if Resistance fighters in France and across Europe were, in fact Communists. That tends to get left out a lot too by “woke” Hollywood, but I doubt you are fighting to see more about that.

My master’s degree is in military history and few war movies hit me hard, but this one certainly did just that… Keep up the good work in giving us such movies!

I'm fascinated that the writer and producer chose actual real Nazis to place throughout the script (Baldur v. Sirach, Kaltenbrunner, usw), and that it is an SA Gauleiter whose the evil mastermind, not the usual SS villain... well-done! The English translated subtitles are not adequate, sadly... they often showed one half of the speaker's words, but not the rest of it... very hard to follow. My only complaint is the script that quotes Hitler as supposedly saying "We want a Reich of Social Justice"... That's a MODERN term ascribed to American liberal thought from the 1960s... Hitler, or ANY Nazi, never would have uttered those words... quite the opposite: "extermination", not "social justice". Philipp Hochmair was superb, as always... only he could make a Hitler mustache look good, haha!

I'm bi-lingual English/German. Admittedly some of the heavily--accented dialogue is hard (even for me with my south German background) to follow - but I didn't find anything really significant missing in the subtitles.......... overall, a good job.

Fact is that with Konrad Adenauer as the first post-war German chancellor, a general amnesia was the official posture. Many of the lower=ranking bureaucrats and government officials returned to working in a governmental capacity of one form or another. After all, they had the expertise and labor was in short supply. By and large, there was no big appetite for retribution and revenge on a wide-spread, all-encompassing scale. So yeah, I believe pension and seniority on the job was taken into account. It's a fact that the widow of Freisler, the infamous Nazi hanging judge, collected his pension from the new government until her death.

The Allied powers denazified many of the protagonists of the Second World War. But it is unfortunately also a fact that Nazis were able to continue to exist in Germany after the Second World War, or had started a new life.

I don't see the point of your comment. Poland was occupied enemy territory, Austria was part of the Reich. Besides, at this time - April '45 - the Red Army was fighting in the streets of Berlin.
