Secret Life of William Holden Revealed: The Unhappiness Of The Golden Boy.
William Holden was an American actor who rose to fame in Hollywood during the 1940s and went on to become one of the most popular leading men of his time. He was born on April 17, 1918, in O'Fallon, Illinois, and began his acting career in the theater before transitioning to film. Holden appeared in more than 70 films throughout his career, including classic movies such as "Sunset Boulevard," "Stalag 17," and "The Bridge on the River Kwai," for which he won an Academy Award for Best Actor. He was known for his rugged good looks, natural acting style, and ability to play a wide range of roles, from romantic leads to tough-guy characters. Holden passed away on November 12, 1981, but his legacy as one of Hollywood's most iconic actors lives on.

He was my favorite actor in my youth. I still watch for his movies on Turner Classic Movies and have seen my favorites, "Sunset Boulevard", "Bridge...", and "Picnic" many times. His alcoholism got the better of him, and his last days were probably very lonely. I'm sad for him, but I appreciate and honor him for his talent and his dedication to conservation. Rest in peace.

He was a "natural" actor who never gave the impression he was acting. Being rather versatile, he adapted to more intense parts as he aged. I will always watch one of his movies if I come across it on the TV schedule. It's a shame his life was wrecked by alcohol and self doubt. RIP William Holden. you are missed and appreciated by many

William Holden is one of my favorite actors, both on screen and off. His performances in James Mitchner's The Bridges at Tokyo Ri and The Bridge on the River Kwai were my top two of his works. His love of Africa and adventurous spirit really set him apart from actors and he was a great outdoorsman. His downfall was his drinking and it is sad that he died alone in his apartment in LA.

It was maybe 1979 or 1980, The Lincoln Center Film Society gave a tribute to Barbara Stanwyck. I was blessed to be there. After the event, many fans were waiting outside. Who walked through the doors but William Holden in the middle of Barbara Stanwyck and Anne Baxter. I got to say hello to all three. It still gives me a thrill. I wrote a book/Biography about meeting them and many others called 'Tainted'.

He is probably the standout who aged so poorly due to bad life choices: Alcoholism, Chronic Smoking, and Sun Exposure. When he appearance on the infamous “LA at Last” episode of I Love Lucy, he was only 37 yet already looked in his 50’s. His last remaining years, he appeared to be in his 70’s (and looked haggard) but was only in his early 60s. The man was a walking message to everyone that even being born with good looks, you quickly lose that when you abuse your body so poorly.
