A few weeks of listening to kids and tourists messing around with it might change your mind. It's one thing for it to be used to play music. It's something different when it is boredom relief. There's only so many times you can hear 'chopsticks' before it becomes painful.

That piano lost its virginity to one of the greatest songs ever. And sadly for some time after, it will be the only love ❤️ it will have for a while, or ever. 😢 Do not despair.
What is the point of having a piano in a Hotel if you can't play it ? Perhaps the staircase is also for decorative purposes only. I'm sorry Sir but you can't go up there !
@@rebeccasilveous8898 Agreed. My daughter’s high school choir mates banged away on random keys before rehearsal. I found that annoying. Frankly, I’m surprised their director didn’t put a stop to that.
If only talented people would play that piano, I'm sure it would keep the posh vibe they are trying to put forth! But that would be a bit of a tricky sign to compose! 😂
We have them in the Netherlands, it says 'only for advanced player' or 'alleen voor gevorderde pianisten' in Dutch. I encountered one last week. It was played beautifully by an elderly gentleman. He invited me to play a bit but I was so nervous I got stuck halfway each song although I know them well enough. Not a fan of that kind of signs though. An advanced pianist at a piano is great, but I prefer a more kid-friendly approach. It so nice to see young children play.
Brendan your piano performing skills are extraordinary I loved the way all the classical pieces blended together started with the Hamlet theme from a cigar advert that used to be shown on television in the UK in the 1970's Claire De Lune and Greensleeves plus a few others The staircase was used in the Spice Girls video Wannabee . The hotel is called The Midland Hotel and its next door to King's Cross and St Pancreas Station in London. Have you thought of releasing a CD like Terry Miles ?
@@TheloniousCube Yes my older sister used to play it all the time when she practiced classical music at the Royal Collage of Music in the 1960's Clair De Lune by Claude Debussy she practiced the piece at home all the time and it drove me mad because whenever she made a mistake she would start all over again.
Acoustics not bad, but we rather over-gilded the Bach lily did we not? I attended the first viewing of the hotel circa 2012, when they had just done the entranceway and first floor. You could see how wonderful it might end up and they have done a fine job. It had previously been destroyed and neglected. Now a fabulous restoration and the bar on the right hand side is a great place to meet before you travel or to collect a visitor from Paris on the way into London. If only they had you to serenade their guests......worth another £100 a night!

After you said you were going to play the piano "very very softly" I was expecting a full volume boogie woogie performance (that would have been great). Instead, I got this beautiful repertoire of classic pieces. Pretty sure the hotel would pay you to perform like that. Never change, Dr. K!

I think I'm seeing a pattern. I can't play the piano because I don't drink enough coffee. I don't think anyone would get in trouble for playing like that. Someone loves that piano otherwise it would not be in tune. Good choice of music.

Dr K, perhaps you should do more of this. May I suggest that, appropriately dressed, you walk confidently and business like into these sort of places pretending to be the piano tuner. First of all you could tinker with the instrument’s innards and then test it out with some nice tunes. It’s a pleasure and I look forward to watching and listening to your tours of posh places.
The Grand Staircase at the Grand Midland Hotel (St Pancras) is one of the masterpieces of the architect Sir George Gilbert Scott, with decorative ironwork by the Coventry master craftsman Francis Skidmore. But it's main claim to fame recently was its role in the Spice Girls 'Wannabe' video.
