The EastIdahoNews.com team is busy this holiday season helping a local man gift $1 million to deserving people in eastern Idaho. Secret Santa is a real person who wants to remain anonymous and hopes to bless as many individuals in our community as he can.
Natalia lost her husband, Leonid “Leo” Pihulevych, in a tragic car crash in August.
The couple moved to Rexburg six years ago from Ukraine so he could go to school. Leo worked and went to school and they barely got by. He had just graduated when the accident happened and they were planning to move to Southern California so he could work at an accounting firm. Their life and American dream was just beginning.
Leo was driving to pick up a carpet cleaning machine so they could prepare for their move when he tragically lost control on a country road and died.
Natalia is 39 and has two children. Adam is 11 and brilliant. He is learning his fourth language. Mia is 7, shy and very playful.
Natalia chose to stay in Rexburg because this is home and she feels comfortable. The community has become her family.
Since Leo totaled the only car they owned, Natalia has been borrowing cars so she can get her kids to and from school, pick up groceries and drive to Idaho Falls for a low-paying blanket sewing job. She also tries to clean houses when she can.
Natalia is the sweetest, most gracious and humble person you will meet. She wants to live out her husband's dream of raising their family in Idaho.
Secret Santa asked the East Idaho News elves to take a big surprise to Natalia and her kids. Watch the video above to see the touching visit!

If he's eleven and the family moved from Ukraine six years ago, he likely would have been learning Russian in addition to his native Ukrainian back "home". Then he starts learning English as soon as his family moves here; that's three languages. Then, probably like many other kids here as they start middle school, he begins studying another language like Spanish or French as an elective, and there you have it--four languages. That background should certainly serve him well as he gets into adulthood.

because the person who is behind it isnt the news station. Pretty sure he was a local guy who used to go around and hand out 100 dollar bills and the like around town and then transitioned it to having the news station do it once he was unable to do it or passed away and set it up for them to continue his legacy. I cant recall. But thats why because there arent extreme wealthy people all around willing to do this. I pray to one day be wealthy enough to do this kind of thing, it would be amazing. We can only hope to somehow make the world a bit better

In China, they recently made a law that some of the major companies (Tencent) have to contribute back to society. Tencent has a program that pays for the lunch of anyone who is a street maintenance worker. They can go to pretty much any restaurant, even some of the fancy ones are participating in the program, and Tencent pays for their meals. I think the US and other countries with extremely profitable companies such as Google, Tesla, Apple, Microsoft, etc should be giving back to the people. I don't think a government should enforce it like China, but I think it would be a good example as a multi billion dollar profitable company to do something and give back.

I became a widow at 40. My husband lost his job after being diagnosed with cancer, and all his insurance was through the company. Our savings were gone in a matter of months. We have 3 kids, two with special needs, so I was a stay at home mom. I cared for him for 3 years and he passed in our home. After his death we found ourselves very much alone. It's been a struggle but we get by, we don't have much, but we have each other. Seeing stories like these warms my heart, it's so good to see that not everyone is left alone. Being able to see love and hope given to those who need it so desperately helps to lift my soul. It reminds me that there are still people who care for others, that kindness and compassion does exist among strangers. ❤

As a youngwidow myself,20 months since loosing my 31 year old husband in an accident, I feel her pain, I have 4 young children, the same ages as her 2, this was the first secret Santa that I have tears running off my face, this is like a hug from heaven for her, once she was alone I'm sure her tears flowed as well, so thankful and blessed for her,may she continue to feel the love and support from all around her

She is definitely one of the loveliest, most genuine and grateful people on Secret Santa. I can't imagine the pain and loneliness of going through her husband's death alone and having to carry on for the childrens' sake. Secret Santa is an amazing person - he seems to know exactly what is needed in each case. Natalia is a very deserving recipient of Secret Santa's generosity, and a very humble and gracious woman. I am from Ontario Canada 🇨🇦 and I can so relate to this story my mom was working as a 911 operator and her husband was killed in an accident hitting a train and she took that call mind you it was 48 years ago I was 5 months old my father also graduated the accounting field I am so happy this person was helped brought tears to my eyes wanted her to have a Merry Christmas and to those precious children.

She truly loves her car 🚘 I just couldn’t stop crying. I know God was involved as she received a car that’s ideal and her favourite colour ♥️ Yay 😊

With how she both commented in person and in the email that the gift car was also her favorite color it is clear that little touch, be it deliberate or accidental or perhaps divinely inspired, brings her joy and lifts her spirits, kindness and gifts both have many dimensions.

I feel for the kid's, it is really tough growing up without a parent. My mother passed away when I was a toddler. That was more than 56 years ago - still hurts. God bless Natalia, her kids and secret Santa.

Touched Jeff! I too lost my mum but when i was sixteen and my sister was only fourteen and that hit our family very hard that it broke our family up. So i can empathise

I love to see how strong community feelings do you have in the US. We usually are so selfish and individualistic that we don't care about our fellow human beings. Seeing this family supported by their community (even though they come from another country and they only have spent a few years in the US) to the point of giving them a place to live and a car to drive just blows my mind.

I just got out of Hospital myself today for 4 days taking care of a problem. Secret Santa is a man with a big heart with a very special compassion for kids with one parent. And Natalia is a foreigner as well, far from her family. So kind, such a good example of true care.

What a family and the boy is learning his 4th language. I had to learn English at the age of 9 which was hard. I was born in Russia and got adopted at 9. what amazing boy he is. Keep up the good work your dad is proud of you
