I was nine months preggo and the radio kept cutting the song off b4 it got to the rap part...Nov. 1980...So I walked about a half mile down the street to buy the 12' lp my baby was born about 12 days later.....
Detroit circa 1981...norhtwest side. Livernois and 7 mile....Mumford high school. The parties...the music...the sweat, the funk, the Avenue of fashion was the place to be. How I recall the innocent times I spent on Pembrook street and San Juan area. Pure magic!!Must bre the music....The Motor city at it's finest. Clean rap and a funky beat...what else cab you ask for???
Is it possible for anybody to hear a song with a grove like this and just sit or stand there? Hell, no! Growing up in a Puerto Rican household, the radio was always on. The 70's and 80's bred some awesome dance tunes, such as this.
and the girls were the girls were off the hook they were so cool and look so fine and always had a great time that's the 80;s for you feel bad for you guys that were not around for the 80;s we had it made ha ha ha
I’m 25 but i remember my dad was a dj when i was younger and he would always start off with some 80”s music and this song would always be the first one he played 😂 i liked it when i was younger but now that I’m older it sounds a lot better and i understand more. I can’t stop moving when this come on. this shit jam so hard 🔥 but 70’s and 80’s music just make you feel good and bring good vibes. Those bands were really talented on those instruments now everything is computerized. I’ll forever jam in my truck as i play this 😂
Absolutely 💯 % correct, you could be dead broke all you needed was a pulse. Only other thing missing was the smell of a Newport cigarette & flashing lights in the club... Just take me back to the 80’s and leave me there. 🤓
+lisa medina ...Me too. The B/S they call music today---PISSES me off. I can't stand it. Don't know whether to sit down or what. You can't dance to it.
I was blessed enough to be 18 years old when this song came out,one of the THOUSANDS of songs that defined that truly UNIQUE era known as The 80's. I had a cousin with connections that got me into Palladium,The Copacabana,Limelight,The Red Parrot and of course Studio 54.Back then life was so much easier,ID's were barely checked, weed and cocaine was everywhere you turned, sex in the clubs encouraged..The biggest distraction we had back then were GIRLS and the Beepers(remember those?)..Nearly every song from the 80's was a Dance tune.If songs like this can't get you dancing then something is WRONG..(lol).I thank GOD i was alive in those days of PURE Dance songs,Clean Rap and Funk.People enjoy the song and take care..........................RR
Takes me back to 184 st and Grand Concourse near Fordham Road when they used to have street jams and everyone was dancing and having a good time! The 80s were my most memorable times!
One of the most awesome rap songs of all time. The beauty of this song from what I fondly remember is how pleasant this song was played in so many backyards and parties throughout the summers of the early 1980s. When this song is played now on classic 1980s based radio stations, people of most generations still love and request this song being played on the airwaves. The beauty of this song in my opinion is how simple the rap song can be sung by almost anyone. No cuss words or anything vulgar. Just a nice pleasant rap song.
I remember playing this on the park in Miami with a wall of sound bout 20,000 watts deep nobody still brothers head bopping ladies hand clapping 1981 where were you?
who doesn't is the question lol great one as many of the songs from the era..i was living in Spain when this was popular and the djs would play it for me...ironically I'm a dj now on the radio and I DO play all the classics
COME ON BLOCK CLUB PARTY TIME!!! The children of today will never know what that is. Everyone was happy. We weren't rich or poor! WE WERE HAPPY WITH NO WORRIES!!! Dancing on top of cars ( you could do that cars were better made made then). Jumping double Dutch, playing football in the street on concrete
You said a mouth full. I remember ALL those days like they were last night. Too many people of todays society dont know a good thing anymore. Kids are hooked to the internet and video games and the so-called-parents are just as bad. I am PROUD to be a 70's baby and have lived through these never dying classics.
I honestly believe this was a GENIUS piece of music. It's so layered! Percussion is all tight and then there's this smoooooth flow at the same time. Musical freebasing. And his voice... Omg.
I went down to Equador with my good friends for a month in 1981. This was one of the jams on my tape. It blew everyone away. It was cool see music totally transcend a different culture.
Summertime goodness back in the days in chicago when being a kid meant something love 70 and most definitely my favorite decade the 80's I miss those time so much nothing of today compares to old skool music.
