Man O' War was a great racehorse, Seabiscuit was a great racehorse, Secreatariat was more than that, with Secretariat , it was almost as if some mythological creature of ancient story and reknown had come to life out of the pages of legend. That's how good, how special, how extraordinary he was. I'm glad to finally see his story told. Amazing doesn't begin to describe him, and it was more than just the races he won.

God get's the credit for creating such an inspired strength! You see how God is? Much different than man and his creations that always fall apart eventually. Even a bad tooth wouldn't stop this prize horse notably with considerable background! -- Puts all the doubters to shame because of her faith to see in this horse the will to go all out no matter what! I mean the lead actress was actually speaking to the animal & getting a connection. Action packed without a gun pointed at you! arch

Everyone who was around in 1973 will be going to the theatres to see this movie! We were fortunate enough to be there during the "magic" of Secretariat's supernatural performances in the Triple Crown. Beyond anyone's imagination or words...Secretariat had something that no other human or horse had that captured our hearts. Supernatural perfection- physically & genetically, incredible confidence and physically the most beautiful horse anyone has ever seen. Absolutely breathtaking!! He had it all!

I was of the Secretariat generation (16 years old in 1973). I won't apologize to whoever had the privilege of watching horses who came before him and thought they were superior. Secretariat was almost too good to be true, and he'll forever remain the epitome of thoroughbred greatness, at least in my universe. They should have named him Goosebumps.

Secretariat was an amazing horse. But I can't help feeling bad for Sham. If he had been racing another year, he would for sure have won the Triple Crown. ;)

@LoveLiveJump It was "impossible" because a woman who knew nothing about horse racing gambled on a horse that did the unthinkable. He won the Triple Crown after no horse had in 25 years & then broke each of the track records (Preakness time we'll never know since the clock broke) but set the track record for the Kentucky Derby & the world record for the Belmont & both still stand today. BTW, only 2 other horses won the TC since ..& both back in the 1970's. But Secretariat's times still stand!

The best video I've seen on youtube that captured what we emotionally experienced back when Secretariat won the Triple Crown in the 1973 Belmont is -"Secretariat A Moment of Eternity". What he did that day was the only supernatural athletic performance ever recorded. Almost 40 years later...and no athlete has ever come close to that magical day we witnessed. Still brings tears to people's eyes.

One of the best movies I've ever seen. It makes me want to ride more often then I do. Secretariat (Big Red) is amazing, he's a beautiful horse and I love how this is a real story. Also they have the original lady (AKA Penny Chenery Tweedy) in the movie around the end. It's a must see film that touches your heart :) If it didn't you're a heartless, sad, lonely person, living with no love in your heart. I recommend this movie to every age group, especially since this is a family film.

The movie was great, but historically inaccurate. The movie never said a word about the great Riva Ridge, which was trained by Lucien Lauren and ridden by Ron Turcotte in 1972, the year before Secretariat's Triple Crown wins. It was Riva Ridge that saved Meadow Stables from financial disaster. He won the Kentucky Derby and Belmont in 1972, and if not for a sloppy track in the Preakness, Riva Ridge could have won the Triple Crown. I guess Disney decided to omit these facts.

Just saw it today excellent movie wish I was alive when this really happened. Diane Lane was amazing, well done Disney. Truly inspiring movie, it wasn't just about the horse it was about the will and determination of Penny to never give up. Excellent can't wait to see it again.

@LoveLiveJump Because the odds were so much against Penny. She had to battle just about every force in her life to make this happen but she was determined and she wanted to leave a legacy that her father would be proud of. It is extremely difficult to get a horse to the triple crown races, much less win all 3. That's why there has only been a handful of them that have won it all. Also you have to understand the times, Penny was a woman in a man's world.

I was watching the 1973 Belmont Stakes at my uncles house and I remember asking him why was that horse running all by himself? Secretariat was in a class all his own. I've followed thoroughbred racing for many years and I've never seen a horse that compares to Secretariat. He is the greatest champion I have ever seen, period.
@cmf4321

@tappiocaproductions Secretariat not only won the Triple Crown in 1973 after 25 years of unsuccessful attempts, he BROKE all 3 track records that still stand!! His Kentucky Derby was the only race ever recorded in history where a horse INCREASED his speed throughout an entire race, his Preakness still has the most amazing burst of speed ever recorded & his Belmont win by 31 lengths and 2:24 time is still the fastest in the world...even today. He was supernatural and "magical" Watch all 3. 1973.

There are chills up and down my spine! Beautiful, heart-pounding trailer. Just finished the book "Secretariat: the making of a champion" that this movie is based on. We're going to see it this Sunday: know I'll love it. Of course I remember secretariat. So sad that he's gone & lived such a short life. I would guess parts of the true story are changed for the movie.

@ghlover2001 He's my all time hero too:-) I was 17 at the time you can not imagine the country's excitement over him. He did what no human or horse has ever done in HISTORY. He broke the KD & Belmont by SPEEDING UP throughout each race. He set every world record in the Belmont (except the first quarter) & was still speeding up at the finish.His Preakness "sprint" to the front has never been done. The clock broke so we'll never know his time. He was the greatest miracle of nature we'll ever see.

The movie was very good. I saw it tonight and it was a very surprising and eye-opening film. People have called it "Uplifting", I would have to agree with that. It showed that all the right stars came into line to make this happen. Turcotte's skill, Lauren's knowledge, Chenery's guts, Sweat's love and Secretariat's raw power. Not to mention the hand of fate in a coin toss (that really happened!) I loved this film. It's about time cinema got real again and this was a good start in that direction.

The movie did not capture the "magic" of what we saw in 1973. Secretariat is the most supernatural creature that ever lived. When a horse race can make people cry even after 38 yrs..the miracle will never be duplicated. What Sec did in the Belmont has never been recorded in history, even by man. He speeded up WHILE breaking the world record each quarter mile. He also raced faster in the Derby. The Preakness burst of speed has never been done by another horse. He was THE genetic, perfect 10.

Secretariat was just about the prettiest horse I've ever seen. And the way he came down the stretch at the Belmont Stakes was totally phenomenal .Big Red was the greatest of all time, and there have been some pretty fantastic racehorses. By the way-horse racing is a very cruel industry. A very small amt of horses are even considered to be run in a triple crown race. Most are done with their 'career' early on in their life. Most racehorses are not treated well and are sold for the slaughterhouse

@thebackgroundartiste One of Secretariat's offspring (Kingston Town), a big bold chestnut striking in appearance like Big Red, still, to this day, holds the Melbourne Cup (16 furlong) Race & Track Record, a feat accomplished in 1990. Despite a barrage of foreign invaders from England, Ireland, Wales, France, Japan, HK, NZ, UAE etc, none have even come close to nearing that record. Not bad for a breed that lacked stamina!! Go Big Red, you are and will always be THE BEST. RIP Champ :)

I hope this isn't going to be like another "Dreamer" movie. I don't think the whole thing should be focused on Chenery and how she's a housewife. Maybe for another movie, but this is Secretariat. Disney is going to make this just another corny and cliche movie and it will do Secretariat no justice. Watch 'Seabiscuit' for a good horse racing movie.

@mman19 What's wrong with this culture is that it will never have the innocence of the 1970's. And Secretariat represented the greatness of that era..& mankind got to see the greatest creature ever born. Perfection on a level that will never be seen again. You missed it. I was more fortunate than you. Anyone who was witness to Secretariat in 1973 are grateful for that day. In fact, 5617 winning tickets were never cashed at the 1973 Belmont. NO athletic performance in history has ever equaled it.
@cmf4321

@red2138 Secretariat was never viewed as an underdog. Quite the opposite. He was called "Superhorse", the "Miracle horse" & the "Supernatural horse". Back in 1973 he was the nation's obsession. EVERYONE knew Secretariat. He was the national hero. The entire world knew about him. He was on the front cover of Sports Illustrated, Time & Newsweek in the same week. When he died, it was on the front page of EVERY newspaper in the WORLD! Ur too young to know about him & the impact he had on all of us.

upon Secretariat's death there was an autopsy performed on him.....the average thoroughbred's heart weighs about 11 lbs.... Secretariat's heart weighed a never seen before or since 22 lbs with no abnormalities...in other words, the Good Lord made an animal for the ages when he made Big Red.....he was blessed with an engine with a super-charger and the courage to use it.....this is not a once in a lifetime horse, he is a once in forever horse....absolutely there will never be another like him

I never understood what Sham's people were thinking. There was NO WAY Sham would win at that pace - he predictably burned out & finished last. The ONLY THING they could have envisioned was being the spoilsport, being the one that caused Secretariat to also burn out and rob him of his triple crown. I don't care for that kind of tactic. But, unbelievably, Sec proved them wrong and won anyway. And Sham finished a broken horse and never raced again. Too bad - he could have been one of the greats.

@tappiocaproductions Oh my...what did this horse do? The Holy Grail of horse racing is to win the Triple Crown...the three races they mention in the clip. Only 11 horses have ever done it and Secretariat did it in an AMAZING fashion. Secretariat's personality was smart, funny and kind and his physical ability was unlike anything horse racing had seen. Some wondered if another famous horse, Man O' War, was reincarnated when he was born. But I don't want to give too much away of the movie!

@FUTONMattress Have you watched him win The Derby, The Preakness & The Belmont on RU-vid? Hopefully, they'll make it more about the horse, but Penny Chenery was also my hero as a woman who was unafraid to stand up in a "man's world" in 1973. Peace...

Based on what I see on the trailer the Disney people might be making Sham and his trainer Pancho Martin out as the bad guys, which is a shame. The younger people of today can't appreciate how Secretariat captivated a nation back in that magical summer of 1973. To bad about Sham, if he had been born in any other year but 1973 he would be mentioned among the top 10 horses ever. In my opinion he is the 2d best ever.
@pennamb

@shortstuph123 I agree and disagree,there are deffinately horses that are treated well by their owners/trainers at the track. However a lot of racers and even successful ones do end up at auction and are abused. My OTTB won't even stand to be shoed, turns out they just tranquilized him for the farrier. So while there is more bad than good at the track(gambling, ruining horse's legs etc...) it does provide for this magnificent breeds' survival, and accessibility for buyers.

@bax323: Amen to that. I'm of the opinion if Sham had been born one year sooner or later, he would've won the Triple Crown as well. Sham & Secretariat both had the enlarged heart (their dams Sequoia & Somethingroyal were both daughters of Princequillo, thus half-sisters).

@catrinmorris Sorry, but whenever I see a documentary on animal rescue on National Geographic or Discovery, the impression I get is, that they put down every animal that gives "any trouble". This happens to dogs which after not being fed regularly in the past don't "pass the test" of having a fake hand put into the bowl. Christ, I had like 5 healthy dogs and I would never even think of trying this.
