This video really made me think, I'm so glad I woke up to this upload this morning. I will now listen to "The Atlantica Song" every morning, in every car trip and during every workout. I will now feel patronized and disappointed everytime I see a fish, to honor your deep analysis of such a track. I also feel compelled to subscribe again to your patreon with a new account, for I am so grateful you preached to us this godsent musical expression of trascendentalism. Buon pesce d'Aprile Jonathan😔🐟❤
You know, I'm actually here for more videos on musical failures in games. It's nice that game music analysis on youtube is overwhelmingly positive, but there's a lot to learn from failures too!
That's a really good point! It's tricky, because "bad" music usually isn't unpleasant, it's just bland. But it could be interesting to look at soundtracks that critics have panned and try to figure out what went wrong. Thoughts to think indeed.
Truly a masterpiece, like a SEAcret weapon making even the toughest Heartless ROCK to the rhythm, bringing a CURRENT of joy to all who hear it! Happy April 1st Jonathan! (Apologies, it was funnier in my head)
Jonathan you’re so brave for speaking your truth. My world(s) view is now forever changed by the profound mouth sounds we call words heard in this video. Everyone, please support this genius by watching his other videos (it’s hard to top this one but by jolly he does it)
This video essay remind me of my writing during my art history class: straw-grasping, needlessly wordy, and circular. And like my art history grade, this video deserves a 100% (my instructor didnt like giving out 100s...)
As someone who took a solid moment to realise when this was uploaded, I appreciate how this still remains written as a genuine analysis, under the memes. If I ever make a vid about KH music, I'll be relying on you so hard.
XD oh Swim This Way is absolutely the most iconic song in the entire series. Everyone I know that has played the game knows this song. It's a fun game I play to start singing a measure and wait to see how long it takes to get yelled at XD
I was halfway through the video before realizing this was an April Fools joke. I honestly thought you were about to tell me that Swim This Way was expertly written and I’m just too musically blind to see it.
At the start of the video I thought you were about to deal with Isn't it Lovely?, Atlantica's main theme. I think it was completely overshadowed by this shipwreck of the world it is set into (between the cringe musicals, unbearably soft gameplay and total inconsistency of the story with that of the first game), but it ranks among the best world themes of KH2 in my opinion; it is a completely original piece that remains very reminiscent of the movie's atmosphere.
I'm gonna say a few things and I think I know how you're going to respond. Let's start with "it makes you think." I think you're currently wondering was this video worth it? I'd say so only on the basis of "more views and getting people talking and making people question what's the point?" My answer: escapism. In KH1, Atlantica wasn't to bad as far as gameplay was concerned. Swimming made sense, and the magic behaved as it always did. The Ursula fight was annoying (just smack the back of her head.... You'll win) Second, I did find this video educational as I do all of your other videos. Not nearly as entertaining as the Nier stuff even though I consider myself a basic KH fan when I can be bothered. Again, I started this series when I was Sora's age, and I'm now 32 and cannot relate to these teenagers anymore. Lastly, when are you going to play Drakengard 3?
Nope! Actually it was never a question whether this video would be worth it or not. I've wanted to make it ever since I realized this channel was going to be a thing. It could have performed terribly and I'd be just as satisfied with it. I think there are MANY excellent reasons to play video games, 90% of the opinions I present here I don't even hold. I dunno when I'll play Drakengard 3! I'm not really able to buy games right now and have a huge backlog of stuff I already own. But at the latest, it'll be when I start to run out of NieR stuff to talk about lol
