9:00 To make 3000 words for get out of room, or get 50p each day out of own salary, remembering me when I was still in college. A week before the exam, I asked my friend to keep my hard drive in his house. At that time I just couldn't control myself to play computer games (It's not short ended fps games, but long games like civ2, takes days to complete). As there is nothing in my room that I can play with, my mind is wandering around, and starting to open the book and learning.

So many young guys want to focus on their passion. I remind them how many men have golf as a passion and they are terrible at it. For a career you need to pick something that you can do better or faster than others. Your passion and what you are really good at night not be the same thing.
@JSiracusan
@JSiracusan 6 месяцев назад
I heard it put that it's a triad of: skill, enjoyment and money... it's rare you get all 3 with a good portion and even then to get all 3 for the long term is a different story. You could be great at golf for 40 years but it's really a rare guy that can keep going well past that. Football the range even smaller... but other jobs it's still the same, I enjoyed my current job for a good 10 years, then it lost it's luster, but I still have responsibilities to attend to, kids, house, so I still have to do the job and slowly work toward something new... so it's dynamic. We want the perfect thing, but overtime it changes. Chris is great at this podcasting thing, but do we think in 15 years he'll be doing the same thing? I highly doubt it.
@whocarescrapsa
@whocarescrapsa 6 месяцев назад
@@JSiracusan It is true. As Orion pointed out, creating a buffer allows for thoughtful planning of your next steps. I used to dedicate my entire Saturdays to mowing my own lawn and spending hours on VAT returns. However, I've learned the value of focusing on my strengths and delegating tasks to professionals. Now, a team of experts efficiently tends to my garden in just 15 minutes, surpassing my own efforts. Similarly, my accountant swiftly handles my returns in 5 minutes, even if billed for a full hour, ultimately saving me valuable time. Streamlining these two processes frees up days of my time in a month to plan my next move.

Eh... If your passion is to improve your life, then it follows that you will do that which you are best at. I became a digital artist in a commercial context, have been doing it successfully for 11 years since I was 16 years old. I saw a path, I knew I would enjoy it, I knew it would be financially rewarding (although extremely risky). So I did it. I also enjoy farming, I would love to do that, if everything falls apart.

@@seekerofthemutablebalance5228 It is not required that you be the best at anything. Just be very good at it, and try having it be something you enjoy as well. Major life change happens on 3-5 year time frames depending on the amount of dysfunction or trauma you need to work on. When you've lived life a certain way for a long time, it takes a long time to find a positive way to live and then make that the default over your old ways. I read somewhere that it takes 6 to 9 months to engrain a new habit. Even when you make a new positive habit, the brain wiring for the old habits are still there and you'll still struggle at times to not go back.

That's a great observation. Quitting alcohol for good was about 3-4 year battle once I seriously committed to it. It was then another year or so that the benefits of getting used to not drinking started showing up in my life. It's certainly a journey, just like falling into addictions or bad habits is, but in the opposite direction.
@Richard-Freeman

@@timothyrday1390 Good for you man. That's a huge decision and major accomplishment. December 3rd was my 1 year with no alcohol. @@Richard-Freeman Thanks, although I don't like to make it a point of pride. The reality is that you have new battles with depression and unlearning previous bad habits and thought patterns. All these ideas are half baked without God. 37:21 it talks about the stoic idea of choosing what happens to you. That makes more sense if there is a God that is developing you through perfectly planned tasks that meet for ability level. In that case, all good and bad things that happen to you, are for your development and are good for you. In the case there is no God, if you simply accept what is happening to you then you, run the risk of living by default.

Great talk! Got me a major insight why Judaism opposes solitary monk life. Instead men (and women) are encouraged to marry and have children at an early age. Life with the real mess of snorty nose kids is the temple to pray in. Thus, the ambition of men is harnessed to something other than to only themselves or an object (e.g invention). The word that came up a lot in this conversation is "I", not we. I can be such a lonely word. The searching "I" seems to become anchored with children and family that need as much care as "I".

Like a lot of professions these days, mental health professionals are just adult children who can't actually solve problems and don't really know what they're doing. Bottom line: we have a lot of incompetence in our society in specialized spheres of knowledge and "professionals" expect to be paid top dollar because there is no price discovery / true competition, so why bother going to a counselor? Might as well just get a friend you can talk to over some beers and save the $150/hr. And who has time to find the "right" counselor "for your?!"

You're literally cut off from everything civilian, including family and friends except for weekly phone calls, for a few months in order to train yourself into a soldier. If someone wants to go monk mode, then they need to have a clear routine, goals, and timeline just like basic military training. Otherwise, you're just playing with yourself.

What is the purpose you're smoking for?. I am smoking too. But that's when I am working, as smoking helps light the bulbs in my head (I do IT configuration/programming stuff). I don't smoke at home. It's all for the purpose. No addiction, booster only.

yay! Dr. T has recently been on FnF, Soft White Underbelly, Whatever Pod and now this! 😄 I'm in the demographic that is typically triggered by his content but I love his channel, watch all the time. Can't wait for his book to be released! I will definitely be reading and reviewing it.

@@redrumfilm2971 he was? Or is it that you simply didn't enjoy listening to the topics he covered? There's a big difference between the two. One is just a byproduct of having been triggered.

@@dirtyace1668 Personally I think he had very one sided views on dating, particularly what he sees in his practice, not real world values. I don’t believe all men are looking for a woman to put out right away, nor that all women should do that. Maybe that’s what he sees when people are having trouble and going to therapy, which is fine, but I don’t think it reflects healthy, mature people in the real world. Not everything he said I disagreed with. I actually did enjoy listening, he told the world how people “play the game”, not get a long term healthy committed relationship. And no, I’m only triggered by the fact that you said “triggered”😂

@@redrumfilm2971 fair enough. I do agree with some of the things you say just as I agree with certain things Orion says. He is usually stating the average norm that is present in modern society and I can confirm from personal experience that it is accurate for the most part. Perhaps your experience is a bit different in some aspects.

Orion has developed a wide and sturdy vision to comprehend what I've been most bafled for in modern times. His message is compatible with what I've found in my esoteric studies, the redpill findings of Rollo Tomassi, and the freedom philosophies one can find in Stefan Molyneux or in Austrian Echonomics. Truth gets more and more like each different path to it, on the top of the mountain. One of the ways to check for it is to learn wide so you can hear the resonance. What I most price of the things Orion has taught me is the permission to give respect to my needs. We have been brainwashed into believing our needs of sex and warmth are of a brutish nature and that we men should strive to love women for what they love in us. That's just impossible, and wherever you believe it works, it's because that man is repressing himself and depriving himself and the world of his unique light. Don't do that. There's too much darkness around to be dimming yourself and depriving the world of heroes, unforgettable lovers, and legendary fathers. Thank you!
