Nice vlog. There are good places around kochi like Kadamakkudy back waters etc. And Hotel you shouldn't have issues in finding budget stays. May be on the particular day it was sold out. Regarding premium hotels, kerala has the most number of 5 star hotels in india, around 35 five star properties. Many of them are at kochi, that is why you come across those kind of hotels.

Thank you!! And really delighted to know all about Kochi and Kerala !! We got some budget stays in 1.5 - 2 K, but did not like them !! Since lots of outsiders were at Kochi mostly decent hotels were booked

Kerala is a very expensive place, in a way its good, only people who can afford can go to Kerala and that way the place looks and feels luxurious. The family I stayed with told me not to bargain, because bargaining is considered inferior.

Overall, we got few budget options too, however did not like them. Since for that particular day, footfall was high, so the basic category rooms of all good hotels were sold out !! Got to know from comments, since we bought in bulk, we asked for discount!!

@@Travidiction I was surprised when I came to know that Marriot Group International (72.6%) and Grand Hyatt BRAND (64.16%) is owned by Keralites. That small state has an income of 140 billion dollars, it's amazing.Compare this with our Maharashtra, which is 50 times bigger, has an economy of just 400 billion dollars. What a shame we Maharashtrians face.

In Maharashtra Vidharba really needs attention !! And lots of scope to further utilizing resources !! Kerala counts on Tourism but Konkan was never projected that way infront of the country. Also Kerala counts on lots of Exports, which again could be one area of attention for our government at Maharashtra!! We are counting only on BFSI sector (Mumbai), logistics (Nagpur) and partially IT (Pune) And silently Bengaluru has taken over as a startup & IT hub, which could have added to the economy!

@@Travidiction Very true. Whenever I go down South, usually every 50 days I feel the difference. I dont think Mumbai can be compared to Bangalore. I feel Mumbai is a gloryfied slum. I've already shited my office operations to South, specifically Kerala. I plan to completly shift to Kerala by 2025. Enough of living in filthy Mumbai

Best way to go to Lulu Mall is park your car in some metro station which has parking lot. Then catch metro to Lulu Mall, this avoid traffic. It is better visit other places in day time and evening come to Lulu Mall. @ 9:46 this is the old bridge from Willingdon Island to Thoppumpady (तोप्पुं पटि) right? The portion at 10:03 can lift up for ships to pass. It was build during British time. Real Kochi is after crossing the bridge, where you saw the fire and Maha Raja's college ground is called Ernakulam (एर्ना कुलम, means ऋषि नागा कुळं, कुळं = pond/small lake). In 1950 and all it was mostly marsh place, so it mostly developed after independence. Kochi and Ernakulam use to be twin cities. But later unified as "Greater Cochin" for marketing reason. Lulu Mall is in old Travancore (तिरु-वितां-कूऱ्) at border of Kochi, and next to Edappally Raja's palace (इटप्पल्लि = इट पळ्ळि), Now people call Lulu Mall place also as Edappally. I wish make Edappally palace a private Museum, sadly not even locals don't know about historical Edappally Rajas. The big temple pond of the palace disappeared, they made it an apartment complex. @ 13:23 Thippaly, name transformed thippaly => pippaly => pepper, westerners noticed another spice which look similar to Thippaly, and started calling it also as pepper (our black pepper). Columbus went to America and got some thing taste like black pepper which now we know as Chill Pepper (red मिर्च). @ 13:51 In the past in Kerala we never bargained in the shop. I started bargaining only after going to Delhi. May be things are changing in Kerala too. Bad part of bargaining is I loose trust with the shopkeeper if I know he charged me more. I feel bargaining is bad culture, a customer can never win with a shopkeeper who will practice it whole day. @ 16:11 mistake, "where the hell you?" did you enter naval base? The whole Island is Willingdon Island, it an artificially Island, most of it made by British, it have naval base, naval quarters, naval airport (ie, old Kochi Airport), Cochin port, hotels etc. All we do here is cross it, that is when we go from Ernakulam to Kochi, or go there if you need to go to naval base or port. @ 20:18 Now there is bridge to Bolgatty, previously it is only accessible by boat. That time many Malayalam, and south Indian movies was shot in Bolgatty palace and lawn. At Mattancherry (मट्टान - चेरी) did you go to Jew Synagogue? (photography restriction) . Also there is an old Palace and temple of Kochi Raja. I assume you saw Chinese Fishing Net at Fort Kochi, then you could have walked to Francis Church original original burial place of Vasco da Gama. It is a small old church, hand operated fan. I think we still can ferry car from Fort Kochi to Vypīn. From Vypīn take bridge to Bolgatty then to High court at Ernakulam Marine drive. From Bolgatty you can take NH966A go to NH66 and reach Lulu Mall, it may be longer but reduced traffic. * Museum Of Kerala History (photography restriction), from Lulu Mall it is 2km north on NH544, there is a metro station right in its front. * Hill Palace, Tripunithura (त्रिप्पुनितुरा), palace of Kochi Kings. From Metro station you will have to take Auto or Bus.

Wow sir, lots of insights !! We do this Park in a place and use public transport much in Mumbai!! When we crossed the bridge, we were unaware of its lifting up feature, insightful Thanks for sharing complete history of this place !! Seems we should have picked some Thippaly in that case. Even I learned bargaining in my first visit to Delhi in college days, when I visited Palika Bazar for the first time and the trend goes on, we were not aware of non bargain culture of Kerala, asked for it since we bought huge quantities!! We did not visit Jew synagogue, we accidentally reached Willingdon island and tried ferry route, unfortunately the road to jetty was through the Naval base, hence we got confused and got stopped at the entry. When we reached jetty, we saw a naval vessel on the other end of the Jetty and took ferry from there. Met one knowledgeable person, who shared the history of Bolgatty with us including the details of King, palace , water metro services and lot , it was really great to meet him !! And thanks for taking the time out and sharing insights about Kochi, it's history & culture of Kerala !! Really Appreciate!!
