Till maybe 50 years back, there were inland waterways from one end of Kerala to other. But later the lorry became easier, and we lost those waterways as no one maintained it. These boat people live and cook food in these boats. Their food has a big difference, when they are traveling in the boat they cook food without coconut or oil. This is to avoid food getting spoiled, food with coconut spoils fast. These houseboats don't go to deep sea, there used to be another style of house boat with sail that can go to sea. I am not sure anyone makes that now.

I am Doctor,Sr Citizen now ..I have travelled Kerala 40 yrs back when It was not so crowded...We didn't get our car but hired Tourist Vehicles...You should do the Mountain side of Kerala which is more Serene and Beutiful... Right from Wyanad to Munnar Athirapally Fall Thekkady Peermade ,Ponmudy nr Trivandrum... Whole Kottayam district is very green and Idukki too... Almost 60% of the National highway in Kerala does not have a median. The stretch from Alleppey to Trivandrum is treacherous. Driving in the night is a nightmare and more prone to accidents. Now the widening work is happening, hope there will be some relief..

puttu is food , kattan means black coffee or tea and therefore Puttum Kattanum. you can say kattan chaaya or Kattan kaapi for black tea and coffee respectively.

Hi Swayam, If you are driving your car so extensively, why didnt you persue for a Diesel car? It would have been cheaper for you in the long run & would have got a better experience in terms of driving experience with better power.
