Such interesting info here, the geology, history and archeology, and lovely videos. Thanks so much for posting. Yet another beautiful place in my County that I've not seen yet.

Thank you Bill! I am very fond of (anchored to?) the Rainbow Mountain area. We've lived at the base of the mountain for 35 years. Our kids grew up hiking its trails. I've been working with friends to publicize the history, beauty, and increasing importance of this mountain to our rapidly growing Madison-area community. Bill Heslip is a long-time Huntsville native and accomplished videographer who has been documenting the area’s wonderful historical and natural areas for decades. Thanks to Bill and our experts for meticulously creating this delightful time-travel tour of the history of the mountain.

Thank you for making this! We live at the base of the mountain and find coral all the time when working on projects in the yard. Can’t wait to show the kids this.

Thank you for watching! It was a pleasure to work with such interesting experts in their field. We live at the base of Monte Sano and love fossil hunting. Hope your kids enjoy it too.

My home is further northeast of Rainbow Mt., up by the quarries just off Stringfield Rd. The hill I’m on is about 800’ above sea level, and I have many of the same limestone and sandstone - plus what I think is chalk - formations. I have been wondering for about 20 years what those oddly pockmarked rocks were, that I see scattered around in my area. Now I’m certain that they are remnants of those coral fossils, as shown on the video. This was a delightful and educational video.

Thanks for your kind words! All of the mountains in the area experienced the same geological and environmental forces, so the video really applies to all of them. So cool to find such tangible evidence of an ancient sea bed almost everywhere one looks on and around the mountains.

Interesting video! I did not know Madison had history. I thought Madison only had small suburbs, no culture, and lower middle class civilians

How do you define culture or "lower middle class civilians"? By this, do you mean "hard working people"? Every community has a culture, it just may not be what you grew up with. The county seat is Huntsville, having probably the most educated population in the state due to the space industry.
