Rewatching your videos from the start and you really did make the best line, even though I'm a vintage guy Classics can't be beaten for quality and care. Never understood the flack you get from some. Thanks again for bringing Motu back to life and every Origins and Masterverse collector owes you a beer.
i bought 2 sets ( one as subscriber and one when you re-released) i always gave your head the honor of wearing the eagle emblem. then I took the extra heads and used them eventually on my extra sky high bodys (bought 4 skysleds) to give him a flight crew troop of under his regiment, including a dare/prince adam young recruit depending on my display mood
Motu Classics are and have been my favorite line ever. I'm grateful that you did the work you did Scott. I met you at Powercon a while back. Thanks for doing these videos! They're great :)
To hell with what anyone said, you deserved as many figures as you were able to get seeing as how you were the one responsible for bringing MOTU back. Only thing I would have done differently would have been to not use the Spector name for the guard, of course at the time you didn't know you were getting the full Mighty Spector figure. Though in my continuity, his name is Lt. Scott Knight, the Security Guru.
Ha! And you know, I actually had a Pin Mate called "Agent Scotty Knight" at Entertainment Earth. Of course the likeness is a bit generic, but the name works!~ Glad you use it too
I love army builders. As a kid I always wanted more than one Stormtrooper, but my mother refused because I already had one. One stormtrooper against Luke, Han, Chewie, Ben Kenobi, etc... Now I can Army build all I want. My wife thinks I may have a problem with it...
I remember being bored one day and I put the lizard snake guard head on a Adam Rose WWE figure and it fit perfectly. So I painted it green and made a wierd lizard guy because I bought a bunch of these guards and had extra heads. I was amazed the head could fit other non classics without modding
Nice! And a big part of why we made the line so friendly for customization. More here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TvnFuJ7LP4o.html
Regardless of how it happened, I'm glad you got your two figures in. I think I have 5 packs of the palace guards and am always trying to snatch up others if I can catch them at a decent price. I'm also glad you made the mistake and the boots stayed armored. Looks better and gives Man-At-Arms more of a distinctive look. Admittedly, it took awhile for Mighty Spector to grow on me, but I think the story is cool that the lieutenant became him. Kudos again.
@@spectorcreative1872 For being the ultimate voice for us and for what you’ve done for our MOTU community, my kind words are the least I can do, to express my gratitude! The fact that you had passion and experience needed, to do what you did for the brand, is similar to Jackie Robinson’s role in baseball and our country. I am not saying you changed baseball and our country in the manner in which he did. I am saying, that as he was the “right” person to do what he did, you were the right person to do what you did for MOTU!
It was the amount of different display options that determined how many sets I ordered so that approach definitely worked in getting more sales from me! 😁
One thing I would ask for is more ridiculous accessories. Near full height shields more massive maces, mauls, and spears. I would likely make massive Door shields myself.
I never knew about the boot swap. Eh...more variety would have been good, but I like the palace guards to look uniform. I think this is one of the rare instances where your mistake worked out better for the collectors. In my opinion.
I won these 2 on an auction I love the guards and all the accessories they come with. I prefer the human and the snake head .gotta say I wasnt sure how much I liked them till I hold them in my hands. I'm just missing randor marlena adora and duncon to have that royal family
Once the different guard packs came out, the Royal Guards, and Horde Troopers, I really wanted to see a pack with Female Royal Guards. Teela couldn't be the only woman in the Royal Guard right? I actually thought I'd seen some a Filmation episode, but I don't remember for certain.
Did I miss any comments about the “battle armor” on these guys and their connection to the BA He-Man? That’s one of my favorite touches on these guys and was waiting to hear about. Truth be told, these are playing in the background and I might’ve just missed it. I’ll go back. Anyway, thanks for the awesome deep dive. Love the concept of “directors commentary” for toy lines, and that you went through sku by sku. And I guess I’ll get to it eventually, but what’s with Spector’s Jim Lee Cyclops / Cable / Deadpool merged look? When exactly were you a “kid” making him up? (I’m 44 btw, born in 76 and thrived in the MOTU/GI Joe/SW era of toys and kids programming/commercials, so I was a “kid” during the 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s, and 10s, so put “kid” in quotes because I suspect you’re similar. Hence the need to ask “when exactly...”) Thanks again for this great series,
I covered the Battle Armor in both the He-Man and Skeletor Battle Armor videos. The swapable plates were used in this figure simply to give other display options because it was an army builder figure. As for Spector, don't worry his video is coming soon!
@@spectorcreative1872 Right. Saw the general coverage in the He-Man battle armor vid, but meant that I was wondering if, in-universe, the idea is that this armor design is standard palace guard armor that He-Man adapted for his armor, or if the guards’ armor was inspired by He-Man’s, or if the design has older roots on Eternia, etc etc etc.
Love this. Hasbro was my client for many years and many of the brand managers found their way into being immortalized in plastic. It's quite the honor I hope to achieve some day.
Great video! Thank you! This was one of the best sets to come out of MOTUC. I was able to get three of the 2-Packs for display and customising purposes. I only wish I was able to get a couple more, for variety. As it turned out, even thought they hung around for a while . . . well, collecting's expensive, ain't it? By the time I could spare the cash for a couple more sets, they'd sold out. Ah, well.
@@spectorcreative1872 oh ok, as I said before I really enjoy these videos and that one popped up, I went to watch it and it said it was unavailable. I asked because I was afraid I missed it:)
@@spectorcreative1872 I think I would have liked the Skealacron that came with the Roton to be sold individually, but I don't think you were there at the time.
Too bad they never made a 2 pack of Avionian Birdman and Andreenid, the Winged Warriors of Eternia. I also feel that Mer-Man was an ocean warlord with no subjects because no Filmation Fishmen. But there's a surprising amount of army builder types out there in the various media, including variations of Horde Trooper (200x) and Palace Guard (200X and mini comic).
The 4HM created the line, so they deserved it. Had they chosen to include Scott in the line, I would be cool with it. But they did not. Scott told them do it, and then lied to fans saying it was all their idea.
Army builders always make me happy but sad. Because I want them to be 2-packs, but also cost half price since they're not of anyone in particular. Or, at most, only $10 more than usual. All so I can buy 6-10 of them.
In my Classics mythos, Lt Spector is Captain Marcus, the one "green shirt" that never ends up getting killed, lol I'm glad that you had lots of these made, because they were a LOT easier to get at a reasonable price than the Horde Troopers, which were going for like $160 until they were re-released individually.
Pity we cannot use that head for that, since you made it canon that he is not just some random dude, but pre-Spector. Yet another reason why those filecards suck.
Loved these look great what you want in a display I would of bought them very creative idea you deserve the figure didn't know was you the weapons pack and 're use other moulds so keeps costs down
One of my new favorite channels. There is a mego channel that’s awesome also. I’m from the first gen gi joe motu 1982 (great year I was 10 years old). It’s not what I had it’s what I didn’t have. Then transformers came and I got rid of it all😂 Traids galore
Did people really give you that much trouble over Mighty Spector? Honestly there's nothing wrong with having a toy with your face or making your childhood OC come to plastic. Looking it up, the guards had tridents in the cartoon, was that ever planned as an accessory?
@@spectorcreative1872 Dang, that is unfortunate. I like the idea of Spector having a hourglass symbol on his chest. Also some might disagree, but I feel poses with big weapons look better than with pistols. Given Spector is a former palace guard, maybe he could have some futuristic guard weapons? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Cep_bojowy_0211.jpg Like imagine a futuristic Pyeongon flail, maybe with a lightsaber axe head with Spector?
