Red Rose Reproductions makes one of the most beautiful Spill Planes I've ever seen. I have the Veritas cast iron spill plane but the Red Rose spill plane I have is made of hard curly maple with brass hardware and details that are incredible, it is truly a work of art.
I recommend rapping smartly on the toe of the plane to advance the iron and then on the heel to withdraw or completely loosen the iron. if you need more than fine adjustment go for direct contact on the iron.
A caption tells us the plan is available in your bookstore, but a direct hyperlink would be more helpful. EDIT: Googled "American Woodworking": went to the site, (Popular Woodworking, which took over American Woodworking?) found the link to buy past issues, led to another link to take me to past issues, which led me to a THIRD link to buy past issues. That brought me back to the first link. I'm out.
