Johnny Carson will always irrefutably be The King of all late night talk shows. As much as I enjoyed Letterman, he still wasn't on Johnny's level. No one was/is, especially with the sorry sacks we have to watch now, like Jimmy "I have THE most annoying fake laugh" Fallon, to Jimmy Kimmel, etc. Uggghh! They are horrible compared to Johnny, and I also don't watch any of the late night hosts nowadays, simply because they're not funny nor clever.

I interviewed Steve Allen, Bob Hope and worked exclusively for NBC in-house media from 2000 to 2010. Cameraman/Director. I worked with Jay Leno. Johnny retired in 87' 88? I was not up the ladder yet but was there. This video is very well produced. I was very shocked as the story was spot on. And the integrity between the editor and the source video's captured the machismo and appreciation for the story. Excellence FV! Emerson Goodfellow Award for Outstanding Journalism. 🏆

I "grew up" with Johnny Carson, turning 11 years old when he began in 1962. My parents often watched him late at night. I loved Steve Allen, but never saw him on the Tonight Show. I liked Jack Paar, but he was not as smooth as Johnny. I occasionally watched David Letterman, but he was too self centered and sarcastic. I also liked Craig Ferguson. However, on stage Johnny was the quintessential gentleman, and made his guests the focus of the show, not himself. Rare talent. Sad that his personal life was so f'd up.

Huge difference between Johnny and the late night hosts of today. All the shows today have guests that are already stars, Johnny MADE stars. Also, you fail to mention the plethora of “ordinary” people he had on as guests, the sheriff from a small town with the broken down car, the “potato chip lady”. He always played the straight man and made sure they got moat of the laughs. These guys today don’t hold a candle to Carson!

Absolutely "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson" was the very best; Carson remains the "King of Late Night." His shows rerun on Antenna TV still entertain. Jay Leno kept up the reputation, but all other's currently suck big time---in part because the stars of today do not compare to the stars of Carson's era. Jack Parr was great, also. That Jack Ass on CBS is the absolute worst. I can't believe CBS would run nightly a full time anti-Trump ostensible Late Night TV program.

While I enjoy Facts Verse videos and subject matter, the increasing number of mispronounciations or incorrect information has become a distraction. In the video, for example, Johnny Carson's executive producer's name is voiced as "Fred Cordova" when a simple fact check would have revealed his correct name as "Fred de Cordova." While it may seem insignificant to some, it can serve to undermine the validity of the information you provide, especially since you brand yourself as "Facts Verse."
@BeckVMH
@BeckVMH 4 года назад
Actually Chris, I’m hearing “Fred de Cordova” @ 2:58. Edit: I subsequently heard what you were referring to apparently because as the narrator continues, he then refers to the producer simply as “Cordova.” I would assume this is still acceptable.

My favorite memories of Johnny Carson... First, and foremost Carson's laugh. His laugh was contagious and one of a kind, especially w/ guests like Jonathan Winters, Robin Williams and, of course, Don Rickles. His Carnac Skit with Ed Mcmahon, that too was funny. You couldn't ask for a better sidekick like Ed Macmahon.. They paired well. What stood out the most,I think, was his sensitivity,at times. I recall when his son passed, He thanked everyone, on live tv, for the well wishes, condolescenes and the support he received from his fans. That little speech showed he appreciated his fan support ,but also showed what class act Johnny Carson was. Despite any hardships he had, Johnny Carson always made his guests, the band, Doc and Mr Ed come first. He show cased a lot of talent over the years and gave them exposure on his time to make them successful as he was- successful, and funny, and, at the same time, made his viewers laugh and they loved for that. What a great man! 👍

There was a steady roster of go-to guests; but there was an A list too. The A list guests would only come on when they had a new movie to plug. They were the biggest stars in Hollywood. There is no question in my mind that Johnny Carson was the best late night host ever. His dry, timely humor and ability to inter act with his guests, I think, is unparalleled. Miss him MUCH!!

Jay Leno was my favorite. I loved his headline jokes.

Aside from the headline jokes, though, what else did Leno offer? I found him stale.

What was great about talk show hosts from years ago was that they made a couple comments about the politics at that time but didn’t base the whole show around politics

David Letterman was the best. Carson was good too, but for my money, you can’t beat Dave. After my wife passed, and weeks of grieving, it was Letterman that actually made me laugh so hard I had tears in my eyes. Thanks Dave !!

I stopped watching after 3 minutes of your rambling on and on. I was waiting for behind the scenes facts. Total waste of time. No subscription here.

I used to watch the Tonight show with my grandmother, she just loved Carson. The late night shows just don't live up to that level. I watch the old shows, an can remember laughing till she was in tears. The best times I ever had with her. Johnnie was the greatest!!
