Nick’s Garage made one as close as you can to the original, right down to bolts and nuts. A year long build and great episodes. I had the pleasure to meet and sit in the Challenger. What a car and a awesome guy as well.

Man I scrapped all the green Mopars I had in the early 80's anything green was an automatic parts car! granted I was pulling V code 70 Mopars out from under trees in the Northwest and had so many to trade and restore I was buried in cars I just wish I put them all in a pole barn in Arizona for 20 years! Locals refereed to my Yard in SeaTac as "Mopar Washington" I admit I had no idea where the value was going. I sold my last 70 GTX 440-6 4sp console, Dana 60 car for $2500 in 1984 fully restored and pristine the guy who bought it said it was the nicest detailed Mopar he had ever seen and told me not to sell it and that I would regret it if I did and man was he right !

How does one even begin to get started in a venture like this? I'd love to just take cars apart, get them dipped and replace needed steel, prep, paint and build old cars for a living. Talk about a dream job. I wouldn't be a brand snob about it either. That just limits possibilities to me. If it's classic American muscle and a cool car that you have the means to bring back, I say go for it. Don't limit possibilities to one brand. I have preferences too, but that doesn't mean other manufacturers didn't make cars worth restoring because of it. Hell, bring some of the Euro/American stuff here. I have a movie car to do - Mad Max's Ford Falcon! THAT would be cool!

I had a 1973 Challenger with a 340 4-barrel 4 speed pistol grip shifter (wish I had it today). It was used in 1977, but I only paid $2500.00. I also remember back in the 60's and 70's there were so many different models to choose from unlike today. You could mix interiors with different paint schemes unlike today. I guess the manufactures made money or they wouldn't have offered so many choices ... With so few choices we have today, and with such high prices, makes you wonder how much profit the manufacturers are making today .. or should I say ripping us off for ..
@albertgaspar627
@albertgaspar627 Год назад
with inflation, it nearly works out the same (if the older cars had airbags, ABS, etc), but the profit for the automaker is in the financing. which is why the subprime mortgage crisis nearly bankrupted the big three, b/c their finance wing had extended into housing. right now, with the chip crisis and parts shortages, they're making a killing. once that settles, they may go back to "$3,000 cash back on your purchase!". Its cyclical.

I think a lot of us viewers would love the Dirty Mary Crazy Larry 440 1969 Charger : Color - "Limelight" (GY3) ? I hear it is a 1971-only Chrysler Corporation color , More info found on the color - The color of the Charger is a 1971-only Chrysler Corporation color "Curious Yellow" / "Limelight" (GY3), which is a light greenish-yellow color. This color was painted on the car by the film crew (as the color was not available in 1969), along with the horizontal racing stripe , I also found that the Charger had R/T emblems but was not a 440 car .

17:40 Notice the PRE-PRODUCTION version of the Rallye Tachometer. Originally, was intended to have the Zero position in the same spot as on the speedometer. This would change before production would start. The standard steering wheel also has a partial horn ring; something that would be dropped by mid-year. Also, in other versions of this film, you can also see the Slap-Stik shifter has a CHROME knob and button that looks suspiciously like the 1968 automatic console shifter knob & button. Apparently, the woodgrain knob and black button were late additions. Also, in some early Challenger promotional ephemera, you can see that the Rallye wheels have NO Center caps - possibly due to the caps not being available at the time the photographs were taken.

I was born in 1970. The same month I came home from the hospital, my father came home from the dealership with this car. They never admitted it, but I think my parents made a trade. Anyway, Dad's was white just like this one so the visual in the thumbnail really got my attention. Dad's had the black vynil roof and an "SE" badge on it. I do not know what SE means, nor what engine it had, but this was the first car I remember in life. Later in life, I had two 2011 Challengers for myself (the second one was an upgrade to the 392) because these cars hold a VERY special place in my heart. I would, however, never buy a model beyond 2014 because the RIGHT Challenger has the 1970 grill and taillights, and they switched to the 1971 versions of these in 2015. OHHH...I know these cars. Andf I was about to drop in a factoid about the Camaro in the movie, but I can see here that someone already said that so...time to just watch the video.

For as much specialized equipment they have in that shop for restoration I cannot believe they did not spring for piston ring installation tools that are completely circular 1 piece. I have the piston installation tool they used and it is a lot more of a pain to use then the installer tools that are for 1 size, Sure they might need a selection of them but they only do dodge V8 engines pretty much the 60-70 so they can spring for the good shit. I mean if you break a ring on install and have to wait to get a replacement that puts you behind schedule right? it simplify s and speeds up the assembly and removes mishaps. a professional shop should have them.

I'm a huge fan of all the pony cars from that era. The Mustang, Javelin, and Camaro/Firebirds were just the coolest cars you could have back in the day, for a reasonable budget. Then we got the Challenger/Barracuda. The most gorgeous car with a back seat ever made. Especially the convertible. Sadly, the majority of those cars didn't last long, and got melted down to make newer cars. Give me a resto-mod with a 392 and the 6-speed manual.

Actually the first thing to do with assembling an engine is stand it on end and install the camshaft first. This keeps you from damaging the camshaft lobes. Then put it up on the engine stand and put the crankshaft in. I was taught that in engine shop in college in 1976/7. I have seen camshafts damaged from being installed horizontally.

It wasn't a Hemi in the original Vanishing Point. It was supposed to be a Supercharged 440.

IDK about all editions, but if you stop the movie just before impact you can see a white 69 Camaro in place of the Dodge. It is very brief...like 1 second image. Then the Dodge re-appears untill the crash.

It’s hard to improve on Chrysler Torsion bar suspension….it’s such a good design all of the big 3 have copied it on their pickups at one point or another with a few minor modifications…GM still uses it today on 3/4 and 1 tons.

I'm confused by this? The vanishing point challenger was a hemi 4 speed car or so it was said, like when he needed an oil pan the dude drove a 100 miles to find a 426 hemi pan ? Now there building an exact tribute car that's a 440 4 speed car? Something doesn't add up. Also one of my all time favorite movies along with 2 lane blacktop

An honest 85% of any Will interview that guy is complaining about something. I have a great aunt just like him.
