Lovely Video! Sorry for the intrusion, I am interested in your opinion. Have you tried - Dinanlinson Straightening Life Approach (google it)? It is a smashing exclusive product for learning how to cure lower back pain minus the normal expense. Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my m8 at last got amazing results with it.
If you can pull out your headrest and flip it backward it will be more flat. If the angle is still bad then you can add a cushion. Hope they helps. But you're right
if you look closely at this video his car seat its horizontial flat and his hips are slightly higher than as his knees,However most car seats(the seat itself) are at a decline and situated very low to the floor therefore your knees are usually higher than your hips and glutes when your sitting so the back support of the car seat doesnt fit with your spine so playing with different cushon heights first just might be the answer.
Well meaning video, quite helpful in many ways. But why are you guys ignoring the elephant in the room? Those acute-angled head restraints! Nobody makes the headrests as shown in your video any more. If they still did, I’d be jumping for joy!
I constantly struggle with forward head. I have to keep telling myself to pull it back, which gets frustrating, but your guys' videos have helped me so much in everyday life. Thank you! 💕
As a 5'3" woman I can say I have never found an American made vehicle with a seat that is comfortable. My Ford has stupid immoveable head rests that push your head forward. To avoid neck pain I have to drop the seat back a bit and stick a cushion behind me and since the lumber support is too high I have to sit on a slim cushion. The only cars that ever had seats that fit were the Japanese models as their threshold for adjustability conformed to smaller people.
It would help if car manufacturers developed cars based on women’s height as well as men’s. I am tall for a woman and the headrest sits much to high for me not to have my neck leaning forward. Shorter women or men must really have trouble. Same goes for the height of the seat and ability to see out the windshield. Annoying!
They make car seats in the shape of a "C" so it makes your thoracic spine go back in a hump shape like Igor from Frankenstein, and pushes your neck uncomfortably forward! So frustrating! Why Bob and Brad, WHY?!?
Absolutely perfect. If you are a man 5 foot 9 or taller. I am 5 foot 2 and getting into the seating positions you suggest are impossible. Currently have lumbar, mid headrest support as well as 3 pillows on the seat to try and get my hips higher. I was told by the VW dealer I purchased my vehicle from that the seats are actually designed now knowing that drivers sit with the head forward hunched position. So you can't physically get your seat into 100 degree angle because it is curved with the headrest protruding forward!
Thank you Bob and Brad. Videos such as these are so helpful and it is a blessing to have people try and help people such as myself without charging my credit card!
Been waiting for a video like this I drive a lot. Some things you guys didn't cover. What height/orientation should the seat/steering wheel be? Thanks for the video
Oh my gosh. Love ya'll's video. I struggle so bad with back pain and after watching it I realized how much damage I was doing to myself. Thank you for the education on how to be a better version of me and live a little bit healthier lifestyle. I subscribe and will be from now on following all of y'all if you have any way that you can send me about exercises for SI joint stretches I can do while driving I greatly appreciate it. Of course in a safe manner LOL. Thanks for the humor I needed the smiles. You guys are doing it and doing it well
the way to tell if its the seat making your body hurt or if it the pounding of the bumps going down the road. Go out and seat in your car while its parked not moving. Then see if your back still starts hurting when your not moving. Just sit there reading or watching videos for the same time you drive eah day. If you back dont hurt parked then theres really nothing you can do except dont drive so much.
This guys car seat headrest is sooooo old most new car have the head rest full pushing forward for the whiplash protection you have NO CHOICE in driving like a hunch back especially when your a small person
Totally agree! It's like the exact opposite of ergonomic! I get that they have to protect the neck in a car accident, but geez, what about the rest of the time?!?
@@snowps1 It does, it creates a bigger area for whiplash. Having said that, I turned my headrest around on my 2019 hrv and Instantly felt better. It protrudes way too forward for my liking.
Mayb I can help some people avoid what took me 10 years of hip pain to figure out. I needed both the coccyx cushion and the lower lumbar support cushions and 90% of my symptoms went away. Every situation is different but that is what works for me.
If I put my head back to the headrest, I don't feel as "tuned" into my driving and awareness. I am sure it is just something you have to get used to after years of driving in a different posture.
So everyone has pains from driving? I thought i must be weak ! I drive 100km daily and my legs just hurts so bad and my car is manual gear ! What should i do? Is there any magic ?
Good video, however All those memory foam supports are garbage. They must not suffer from chronic back pain. The purple support is the best , and the back saver as well. The wedge is great for decompression as well. With back pain you learn to take ownership of your pain and find solutions.
You guys should check out the headrests on Toyotas. Makes me nuts. The back of the driver's seat is curved making you slouch and the headrest tips your head forward and down. Pathetic. I should send you a picture! 😣
7:05 reminded me when I was a cool kid (teenager) and drove around like that lmao now I’m in my thirties can’t even do that with out having back pain smh 😞
Thanks for this. New sub here and was looking for help with back pain while driving a trip I have planned from Kentucky to Oregon trip latter this summer.
Hello! Thank you for this video. I started PT a few months ago and one of the things we work on is proper posture. With all of the support pieces you showed; it would get really expensive to do trial and error. What about going to a shop where they sell support pieces and trying them in your car before buying anything?
Accelerator pedal is on the right in every car around the world, regardless of which side of the road or which side the driver side sits on. Just saying.
I have a chevy spark and I hate that it kills my back and i feel like Im laying down when I drive. It kills my back. I cant evne sit up because my butt is in a hole .
Hi Bob & Brad ! 😃 I have a big pain in spine, exactly I have a problem in disk L4 &L5 and its really suffering me a lot !! Can you please make us a video about disk problems in spine like my case L4 L5 ? Thank you so much 😃
Do you guys know what can be done for somebody who has severe pain under the right shoulder blade while driving? Even when I'm in the passenger seat leaning back and using a neck pillow (like the ones for flying) The pain is just sickening. I'm going to try the chin tucks and retractions. In the past I've resorted to shoving packages of tennis balls down the back of my shirt.
What’s the best way to sleep when you have neck stiffness? My C6 & C7 are mildly herniated and a few times a year I have a stiff neck (now it’s likely due to sleep and my pillows). I couldn’t tilt my chin down this morning without pain. I try to stand at work because the chairs are horrible & just makes things worse.
I'm curious, you couldn't tilt your head down only bc of the pain, or also u were so stiff that the muscle just would not give and u physically couldn't move ur head down? Try sleeping on ur back but with a pillow that's not too high. U can even put a rolled towel under ur skull for support. But if ure not used to it then it could hurt bc it muscles and spine would have to readjust. Play around with what feels right.
I don't think they design them for anybody! I'm a well-proportioned, 5' 7 1/2" female and if my legs/feet are at a comfortable distance from the peddles, my arms are frustratingly too far away from the steering wheel! I do not have short arms or long legs, mind you. I either have to squish my legs so my arms can reach and I can be up high in the seat, OR have comfortable legs, be too short in the seat (because it also moves down as it goes back), and have to lean forward to reach the steering wheel! It's maddening!!! :/ They should make them able to adjust for anyone, from super short to super tall. My husband is 6'7" and I could only find two cars in my price range that he could (barely) fit in and that were somewhat acceptable to me!!! Ur! Why won't the car companies listen!?!?
height of seat matters and the length of the bottom of seat. I have Subaru WRX and my piriformis barely kicks in but I get in my wifes Lexus rx 350 I get so much rear-end pain. I am going to measure my angles because so weird why one seat is better than the other. You would think a luxury suv would be better especially since it has all the lumbar etc options but no its terrible.
Im a driver and i have pain in my left buttock all the time sitting. It often tingles down the leg into the foot. Tried alot of therapy for good spinal posture and am doing exercises that Stuart McGill advises in his book but i just dont think this has to do with my back, more with my pelvis/iliosacralyc joint?
I drive for a living as well you literally have to train like an Olympic athlete to be able to sit for long periods of time without hurting... tried everything else
Nice video. Somehow little bit older, but problem ist still the same today. What do you think guys about a Thoracic Lumbar Back Support cushion? I found it while an internet recherche and it seems interesting to me. Would you recommend a Thoracic support in a vehicle?
My secret to pain free driving: Drive an old Mercedes. I've driven it across the country more than once with no comfort issues. Then this weekend I had to drive a Nissan Sentra a thousand miles in two days. Big difference. Removing the head rest from the driver seat helped, but it still wasn't a Benz.
