You can always be informed on companies and things to do to mitigate risk of exposures to cyber threats. For one, get a VPN like Nord or Express VPN and never connect to any wifi outside of your home without turning it on.

Simplify: Any time you enter a password to access WiFi, a website, an account or anything, it COULD be a fake that's broadcasting a stronger signal that overwhelms the real one. Anyone can jump in and pretend to be the internet, and silently just relay (and record) your communication to the real internet.

The handshake capture device is not for you. Never use public wifi. Never use a complimentary wifi (like in a doctor's office or hotel) even if it has a password. Yes, Hotspot your phone. Use long complicated passwords and use a password manager so you don't need to remember them. If a company sends you an email saying you need to login or something, don't use the link in the email. Go to the website directly. Never open attachments that you don't have direct knowledge about; like if your sibling just talked to you on the phone and they said can you help me with this. You are expecting that attachment. If you were not expecting something, do not open. Delete and report as spam. A simple visit to a porn site or gossip site can hack you...just by visiting 1 page. I could go on and on, and sadly, it's not enough to keep the average tech laymen safe.

-Home wi-fi that uses WPA3, thats the updated security protocol Ryan talked about that doesn't have the same 4 way handshake vulnerability. -if the choice is public wifi or mobile hotspot/5G. It's always a hotpot unless you just need to get a map from Google or something like that. -PASSWORD MANAGER!!!!! Don't share passwords between account and don't have passwords be named after things easily tied to you (family, current year, company you work for, address) -2 factor authentication on any account that connects to your bank or any payment method at the bare minimum -Phishing emails are the biggest threat to most people. If you're not expecting an attachment, avoid it. If you don't need to click on a link, don't. -Bonus. If you search something in a web browser. Never click the "Sponsored" or "ad" link that shows up as the first result. The link/result that shows there is only there because it was PAID to be. If you thought companies like Google and Microsoft would prevent bad things from showing up there, youd be wrong. At my work I have personally seen those give people malware and be outright scams.

VPNs are more for anonymity, not "security" in the traditional sense. There is no explicit "4 way handshake device" as he described. That is just the name given to the authentication process when any wireless endpoint device connects to an access point/router/etc. Modern wireless authentication protocols have the handshake process already built in. Just use common sense online. Don't tap on links from texts you don't recognize. Don't open weird links in emails or attachments (especially at work). Try and use different passwords for each online account you have. Password managers make this easier, both installed on your home computer and any mobile device. Also enable two factor authentication for any online service you use, if it is an option.

He either just means using your data plan (5G or LTE/connecting to cell towers) as opposed to wifi on your cell, or if you're using a laptop, turning on the phones hotspot which is just the feature that allows your phone to give off what is essentially its own wifi signal for another device (like a laptop) to connect to. The cell phone then uses the cell towers to connect the laptop to the internet. In summary, public wifi can be very dangerous. If you have the option to use a data plan, use it. If you don't have that option, don't use public wifi for anything important or that requires signing in like banking(it's still best not to use it either way). IF you don't have a data plan AND all you have is public WiFi AND need to do anything important....it can wait until you get home to use your own wifi

No, antivirus is meant to give improved security over not having it. Reputable antivirus companies like Norton, McAffee and Kaspersky have whole departments who trawl the internet for samples of the latest virusses, worms, spyware and malware. Other departments then safely take apart those virusses, worms, spyware and malware in Virtual Machines line for line and reverse engineer them to discover how they work and how they can be defended against. Yet other departments then incorporate that into new updates for their antivirus and release that to their customers as soon as possible. So they definitely have their uses and benefits. However you can't prevent against completely novel virusses, worms, spyware and malware, especially if they incorporate zero-days (thus far unknown and undiscovered software or hardware vulnerabilities, sold and bought on the cyber arms market for massive amounts of money). So you'll always be vulnerable to a certain degree, even with the best antivirus money can buy. And on top of that the general public tends to go for ease of use instead of security, opening a bunch of ports on their firewall so they can play online games or make video calls, in the process also make themselves more vulnerable to hackers who can potentially use those open ports to gain entrance.

Quantum computing is still very much in it's early developmental stage and not fully developed, with only a handful of decently developed quantum computers in existence at the moment. And there is no such thing as quantum computers which can break any encryption, even plenty of legacy encryption algorithms are safe against quantum computers and will remain so for quite a while, never mind the more recently developed algorithms which were developed precisely to resist decryption by quantum computers.

Sometimes, but even the 'something you have' has to be considered. Sim hacking is a big problem with people getting their accounts hacked and money stolen because they use their phone as the token. The hacker can access and essentially steal your Sim ID to replicate. MFA is still better, but make sure your 'what you have' is secure.

ISP’s own the mainlines - BT, Verizon, they will all be able to packet inspect any of your traffic if they wanted to. Like he said it’s an illusion, security is irrelevant. You want to focus more on deniability.

ISP can see your traffic's metadata and based on it can probably deduce what website you're visiting, though less and less as more websites are hosted in a cloud and technologies like Encrypted Client Hello (ECH) are becoming more widely used. At any rate, ISPs won't be able to tell anything beyond that. For instance, right now your ISP can probably tell you are on RU-vid, but nothing beyond that. They can't tell what video you are watching, comments you are reading or posting, if you are even logged in, etc. all thanks to the Transport Layer Security (TLS) which can readily be recognized by the URL beginning in "https" (that 's' at the end is the key) and around 99% of all websites use nowadays, making all of the actual content of your traffic encrypted and no one other than the website you're visiting itself can decrypt (provided that their private key wasn't stolen, of course).

Not too late at all, not even close. In fact, it never is. I would recommend though that rather than trying to learn from top down, you learn from bottom up. I.e. if you don't know how a computer network works, you should learn that first before trying to learn how to breach it. Good news is is that it actually becomes very natural. Once you understand the underlying tech, discovering vulnerabilities, and more importantly, their mitigations, takes essentially no effort. To give you a concrete example, once you understand how Diffie-Hellman key exchange works, you'll be able to instantly understand why it's susceptible to Man-in-the-Middle attack without prior authentication. If you go at it from top down, you'll be inundated with courses with lackluster explanations that will leave you in the dark the moment you find yourself in a new situation that wasn't exactly like the one from the example from the course or alternatively you will learn things in lackluster manner. Another example of what I mean here, you might learn about DNS spoofing, but might not know that TLS makes DNS spoofing almost useless nowadays. What would be just my two cents about how to go about it.

You can manipulate the sign in screen also always always delete or empty your browsers clipboard 📋 it sometimes stores passwords which people who are snooping around know where to look for passwords. Google Chrome is a unsafe browser at times if not used properly
