The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, the Environmental Protection Agency, and others require construction sites to control stormwater runoff in areas where work is being done. Contaminants in runoff, including sediment, chemicals and other debris can cause many potential health issues for humans, animals, and aquatic life.
The Texas Department of Transportation and the Texas A&M Transportation Institute recently designed and built a sediment control device test system. This system was designed to research the effectiveness of various types of both proprietary and non-proprietary products that are commonly used to control sediment and other contaminants in stormwater runoff.
