Now that's awesome! My Grandpa had a Cadilliac nearly identical to that when I was a kid. We'd go on cruises around town, etc. Great memories.

I got caught going 80 in a 35 in a sedan Deville Cop said he chased me for miles and told me he couldn't catch up. I was a teenager flying at 3 am traveling back home from my girlfriends. He told me,"Do you know what would happen to your insurance if I issue you a ticket?" I said no sir. He said go home and drive the speed limit 😆 🤣

Well there was not-so-good things also like AIDS and crack though. Like every era the 80s has its dark side too. The intro to the movie Lean on Me is a perfect example of this.

The shows from the 1980s shows why Bob started doing audience entrances. You could see the gold spots on the and of course the Golden Road sign as he was making his entrance. So you knew what game was going to be played first

Finally, his incredible journey is now available in full! This also happened 38 years ago today, what a coincidence! But it would be only one month before some ice cream truck driver broke the one-day winnings record for a CBS game show by about three times of John's winnings, on another CBS game show that is.

Most of the cars offered on this game show were poor quality vehicles. This Cadillac was impressive to be offered as a prize, especially considering average car prices then were between $10-15k. A real gentleman.

I don't ever remember them using an actual published popular song. Ride Like The Wind by Christopher Cross was in the showcase and there was a pretty good edit on one of the parts. The other one was a little choppy, but I imagine they used a razor blade cut edit. It was really interesting at that time that the highest winner was over $39,000 up to that point in time. Thank you for sharing.

They did this a LOT way back when, up till at least 1991 I think (they used Madonna songs over the credits each day of the 20th season premiere week). If you only watched after that (which I did admittedly too, being born in 1987), you'd not know of that, but it was very commonplace during this period and before. Celebration by Kool and the Gang was used a couple years earlier to close a 10th anniversary show I believe as another example.

That's almost a $69K Caddy in today's money! And sucks to be that second Showcase person stuck with one of the cheapest Showcases possible...about the only way in the Barker era she could've done worse was to get the dreaded train/tugboat Showcase :P

The average citizen has a hard enough time paying the taxes on items they win on game shows. Especially if they're California residents. On an Army Captain's salary, it would have been very difficult even if he was in Base Housing. He and his wife would have had to discuss what they really wanted to keep, which would have probably been less than half of the prizes.

I've really and thoroughly HATED IT when the camera is aimed at the contestant's SIGNIFICANT OTHER (boyfriend/girlfriend or spouse) in the AUDIENCE for presumably a reaction shot while the said contestant ON STAGE plays a pricing game on TPIR!!! 😡😡😡🤮🤮🤮
