It’s great seeing old fashioned manufacturing and packaging in Britain!👍🏻

I am luck enough to have received this kit for my birthday (2024) and to be honest I didn’t realise how labour intensive it is to go from the moulding machines and into the box all nicely sealed in bags and with all the rest of the contents, I thought there would have been much more automation than there is, even down to making sure the box is folded properly. Thanks Airfix, you have been part of my life since before I started building models myself, I used to watch over my dads shoulder when he was making them, he was very good as well, none of all the modern tools etc, just a cutting knife, sandpaper, cement and paints making it a lot harder to produce a great result, but he did it, and now I am in my 60s your still very much a part of my life. A little bit of trivia, on my first posting, from my mechanics course, I was posted to RAF Cranwell on the Basic Flying Training School (BFTS) and after a stint on the line with Jet Provost’s I was moved to the Aircraft Serving Flight doing scheduled maintenance on the JPs but also the Chipmunk T10, and I worked on the aircraft with the tail number 28, and it just so happens that is my birth date 28th of May, and the tail number of the Airfix 1/72 scale Chipmunk is tail number 28, and the only Aircraft that unfortunately crashed when I was posted to the unit was at Cranwell when tail number…………..you guessed it, 28 from the Jet Provost fleet, and it crashed on…………….can you guess?……….sorry, not this time, it was the 27th of may 1981?, I think it was 1981, could have been 82. Anyway, thanks Airfix for providing me with hours of entertainment building your kits (not exclusively Airfix) and for being a standard barer for British model kits. One question, when I was a kid I remember buying a kit featuring a mounted soldier, I think it was depicting a Bengal Lancer, unfortunately I can’t remember the scale, could someone please tell me if my recollection is correct and if possible where I might find one to buy these days, it was definitely during the 1970s that I bought it originally, I bought it at the same time as I bought (lots of pocket money and part time jobs) the 1/24 scale “Stuka” now that was/is a fantastic kit, very well made and detailed. Sorry for rambling on, when I get started I can’t stop, it’s an age thing I think. Thanks again Airfix. 😀👍🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Worked in a plastic moulding factory a hundred years ago on my first summer holiday from Polytechnic, so interesting to see things haven't changed that much. Great to see Airfix not subcontracting all its work to China or India and cutting your carbon footprint by buying services locally. Well done.

Spitfire - one of my first kit builds as a kid years ago. Remember painting that massive, elliptic wing.

I was in my teens when Airfix came with these 1/24 giants I think a friend got the Spitfire Mk. I. I still have parts of the 1/24 P-51D Mustang around. That is almost 50 years ago...

6:50 That outer box will NOT protect the inside box when shipped in the mail in the USA. It just won't. And I suspect that is the case everywhere. The box will get thrown and tossed about during shipping and will likely get crushed and bent, especially in the corners. Unless that box is packed inside another box with packing peanuts, airbags, etc, it's not going to make a whole lot of difference. It's just basic Newtonian physics.

Stickers! Bloomin unforgivable.... that was until the lesson on how boxes work 🤔🤣🤣 In all seriousness I'm glad it's produced in the UK and I have 1 in the stash now 👌

This is exactly what i imagined an airfix employee to be like. I have over 25 years of experience in manufacturing with multi billion dollar companies. I dont even know where to start. Its one step up from someone making stuff in their shed. From the lack of efficiency to the mess of the place. A place for everything and everything in its place....One comment said "good old fashioned manufacturing"....thats the problem. Thanks for telling us what a cardboard box does 😅

Your attention to detail is to be commended but can you explain why it took two weeks to actually package my order before giving it to your delivery company?

Surprised the checks are so manual - a vision system and/or weight system would work well. But money I suppose.

I am amazed at the amount of manual work that is included here. Probably each of the boxes is handpainted ;-)) Whenever you get a kit where something is missing, think of this video, how he has to check each of the sprues, THOUSANDS each day.

Bag opening needs addressing, a huge time waster. I’m a retired production manager who has worked at both a US Fortune 500 UK subsidiary and a UK Public Company, I would have addressed bag opening the first week I was there 😮😮😮

Is it just me or does it all seem a bit cottage industry? When he says they will have some flow he is not kidding. Any flow would be nice! Also, what is the point of protecting the wings with sheets of paper, nice tough actually, if the sprues are all dumped on top of each other in the box beforehand? Damage is already done! Safe the paper and place the wings between two plastic bagged sprues. Hope they can keep it going. Would support you guys but that scale is just too big for the space I got.

When I commented (a meaningful comment), there 3 views and no comment. The "first" is an illusion, RU-vid has severe quirks, often comments are not displayed, no notifications when someone comments to your comments, etc.
