Rachel Maddow and a panel of MSNBC colleagues discuss the developing news of meetings between Democratic leaders Sen. Chuck Schumer and Rep. Hakeem Jeffries in which concerns about Biden's candidacy were raised. The White House states Biden told Dem leaders he is the nominee. That statement comes as ABC News reports Schumer and Jeffries told Biden to step down. NBC News has not independently confirmed that at this time.

That depends on who replaces him. If we get a good challenger, say Gavin Newsom, I think we have a much better chance. However, I love Biden, but you have to remember that the reason Biden won in 2020 is because a lot of young people got out and voted. If we don't have that for 2024, Trump is going to win with the electoral college votes.

They know him better than any of us do. They're not betraying their friendship with him in the slightest. The fact of the matter is that this race has gone from being focused on Trump's misdeeds to a referendum on Biden's ability to the job for another four years. That debate performance changed everything, and the Democrats are right to think that a strong path for Biden to win just isn't there like it was. Even before the June debate, Kamala Harris was polling better than Biden in a head to head matchup against Trump. At the end of the day, politics is about winning, not friendship, and Harris has a better chance of beating Trump than Biden does.

Its because the Dems keep giving terrible cadidates. Hillary, lukewarm candidate when the country is leaning populist, she was very much not so. Biden, because they were scared of Bernie (a populist), and used political games to stack it in favor of Biden. Perhaps if the Democrats had a strong candidate they wouldn't have these constant neck and neck elections with literal fascists. Democrats don't lose because people prefer the Republican, they lose because they don't motivate people to vote. Its a simple fact, the higher the turn out the greater the democrats do. You can only ask people to vote for you out of pure fear without actually representing them for so long. I knew A LOT of people who didn't vote Hillary who said they loved Bernie. Because its not about left or right, its about Elites vs Regular people. That's what Trump capitalized on, be doesn't do political double speech and the idiots find that's sufficient to get them to pick him. That's what hurt Hillary in 2016, she came off as inauthentic, every statement was researched and focus grouped etc.

The public meltdown and interparty chaos is damaging our chances too. The fact that the republicans lock step behind their candidate regardless of what he says or does and never break ranks, EVER is a sharp contrast to all this freaking out. Merited or not, we're hosed.

I just glad Nancy Pelosi isnt running, she was way too deep into Moscow Mitch's pockets. Here is hoping & praying Hakeem Jefferies hasent fallen pray to deeper pockets or Chuck Schumer as well.
