Our Venus Fly Trap (some people say Flytrap) has to be put away for the winter (so it can rest) but what does that mean? And what does it look like when a trap closes? Carnivorous plants are amazing! Day 15 of Vlogmas.

Val, day 15. I think we might make it!! Would never have guessed that a Venus fly trap is another of your many interests. Always a surprise.

Dave ordered them out of the blue... Then they arrived and he showed me saying "I've bought these, but you've got to look after them". 😳😂

Val, I love plants, so this was very interesting. It would have been utterly hilarious to see Leaf Chadwick being devoured by the Venus Fly Trap.🤣🤣 Happy Day 15!

I might do a repeat of the now deleted Leaf video, for my FB page. 🤔

Love it … my ‘fly trap’ is less attractive … a simple jar with about an inch of apple cider vinegar. Kills those little suckers dead so quick. But your is so much prettier.

I'm so impressed! I can't keep Venus fly traps alive at all! (I think they lose the will to live during the journey home!)

Oh no! I'm the reverse... Only these have ever survived my "care". 😂

Not what you promised? Seriously. You promised to ramble about random subjects for twenty four days. You're doing great.

Is it difficult to look after?

So far so good, just add plenty of distilled water. But now it has to die back and be kept in the cold until Spring. Not sure what will happen...

Sooo...I'm curious as to how long it takes for the "mouths" to open back up when they close (if they didn't catch anything, like in the video)

Err, I think a day or two but I don't really know! There are so many of them and we have two plants, so I haven't paid attention. How embarrassing, sorry. 😳😉😂

If you put a bit of sand in there, will it make a pearl? Does it attract enough flies to make it worth having, insect-killing wise? p.s. Show us how to make a nice cake for the shop, please. Maybe a plum pudding in a cloth?
@UnrulyHousewife
@UnrulyHousewife 2 года назад
It doesn't really work as a fly catcher, I think it would need a greater volume of flies than we entertain... Not sure about a cake but definitely doing cookies. I have absolutely no idea what a plum pudding is, or what it looks like.

As a child I had a sensitive plant whose leaves close when touched. I killed by never leaving it alone. It was so cool! Perhaps a new friend for your venus? Xxxx

you’re so cool omg you remind me so much of my granny, i’d love to be your friend i love venus fly traps btw :> also! they don’t let off a smell, they make a little sugary sap that attracts the bugs n they go in the traps to try and eat it before they meet their doom >:D

I loved watching this. I’m definitely weird…!! I have never managed to keep one of these alive. I’m gutted I didn’t get to see you feed Leaf Chadwick’s arm to the beast. But hey, I still loved watching a brush (along with appropriate sound effects) being munched. I’ll buzz off now… sorry, it’s been a long day! Sending love and health your way! xx

Dave got ours from Amazon. They arrived all squashed down in the plant pots but they picked right up!

This was cool. I’ve owned a few which lasted maybe a week or two. Your plant is beautiful. I never knew they hibernate. I’d get another one but the thought of killing another one is depressing. Don’t have much access to sunlight inside the house either. Would be wonderful for the occasional fruit fly.

We can’t get rid of the flies in our house. Our cat was taken care of them but now she has gotten bored with them. My daughter has been wanting a plant like this. I will have to get her one.

V#15: Venus Fly Trap info we will glean! Too bad you couldn't share the demo with young Chadwick's arm - what a brilliant & fun idea!
@UnrulyHousewife

I was going to put that one on FB instead but I accidentally deleted it! My phone storage was bad, so I deleted "extra" videos (false starts etc.) and then emptied the recently deleted bin to ensure more storage space. Except 5 mins later I thought "Oh no! Leaf Chadwick's arm video!" The thumbnail was the Fly Trap, so I'd forgotten that it wasn't just a failure. Grrr.

I am really impressed! I student of mine was a real expert on all sorts of carnivorous plants and gave me two venus fly traps. I am totally rubbish at looking after houseplants, and yes, I had to admit I'd killed them.

@@UnrulyHousewife Oh I was given an expertly hand-written booklet of care instructions, including distilled water. Rearing house plants is not my thing, The student did work experience at the Bristol Botanical Gardens and was promptly offered a job.
