I’m camping in south east Australia 🇦🇺 now and after a few days of rain we have enjoyed clear skies tonight and have seen a sliver of the moon 🌙. Thanks for this video. Just past midnight here.

Lunch time here and we had snow all week last night it tuned to frost and the moon was blindingly bright making all the snow glitter like jewellery.

@@dogwalker666 Chilean here. We see stars rotating clockwise when looking at the South celestial pole, but when not looking there, stars just come up from the East and travel to the West just like the Sun, Moon and planets. Not quite sure what do you see there in the Northern Hemisphere 😀

@@MariaMartinez-researcher up here in the far north we see star and planets track counter clockwise, we also only get 6 hrs of daylight.

@@dogwalker666 I see. It appears that your placement is alike to one of the most southern Chilean cities, like Punta Arenas. They also have very short days in winter (June) and very long ones in summer (December). At my latitude, Santiago, the differences are much less noticeable, and the stars follow a straight path on the sky. Hey, greetings to Polaris! ✌😀

English: I think there must be heavyer things inside moon, closer to (gravity stonger) earth since we always se the same side of the moon. Tidal-lock as it's called is a very natural thing for ANY uneven masses. It's these irregularities that "push" more against rotation if it's going faster than it's orbit, and "pull" if it's going slower. Two perfect spheres would never drift towards a tidal-lock. But add just one teeeeeny irregularity, and it's mathematically certain that given enough time, the orbiting object will eventually become tidally locked. Just takes a hell of a long time. We observe only tidally locked moons in our own solar system that are also tidally locked to their planet. Making it quite a "normal" thing. 🙂 If we assume the sun will stay the same size and mass forever, the earth would also eventually become tidally locked with it. Making one side only day, and one side only night. But calculate it mathematically, it will be in 50 billion years, long after the sun has died anyway, and most likely destroyed the earth along with it. So you ARE correct that there is something heavier/lighter. But it's not any more interesting than a hill here on earth being heavier than no hill. :)

Its called a Tidal-lock, and is a very natural thing for ANY orbiting uneven masses. Just takes a hell of a long time depending on how irregular it is from a true sphere. We observe only tidally locked moons in our own solar system that are also tidally locked to their planet. Stand on Jupiter, and you'll see the same sides of all its moons. So a short answer; it's because earth isn't a perfect sphere, and the moon isn't a perfect sphere. The irregularities have gravitational force that continously "pulls" the orbiting rotating thing, to rotate just as fast as the orbit itself. Side note, if we slowed down the moons rotation a bit, the tidal forces would work to speed up the rotation until tidal-lock. Likewise if we speed up the moons rotation, tidal forces would work on slowing it down again. :)

Oh, and just to add. The moon _does_ spin. It just spins once every 27 days, the same as its orbit around earth. When the rotation time is the same as its orbit time, we call it "tidally locked". Earth's rotation time is 23h 54m, and it's orbit time is 365d 6h 9m. If those where the same value, we'd be tidally locked. And we ARE indeed slowly being pulled into it. The earth rotation speed is decreasing. Just so incredible little. :)

And food for thought; the earth is also being pulled towards tidal lock with the moon. If the earth was tidally locked with the moon in that way, the moon would be in the exact same point in the sky throughout the day. Hehe.
