Hi Steve ,well said and a wee point about our quality Scottish seed potatoes.....they will still get blight if the weather suits.people copying you ,is that not the biggest form of flattery ,at the end of the day your tips are a breath of fresh air like cliff on his channel.thank you for your precious time and kindest regards tam 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿❤️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿❤️

Yes it is flattery Thomas, and I really do not mind if that happens. It is a very good gardener copying though and hoodwinking their subscribers that I think is wrong...Steve...😃

You are very right Ali, I did play a video back whilst I was there...and I thought that the rain was too loud and I would not be able to use it, but it all turned out good....phew!...Steve...😃

A lot of people would say it's too late to sow, but I say even if the seeds should of been sown by now , it's worth a go!

These are all winter hardy varieties, or will crop before the frosts set in, or be grown in a protected environment. Written seed packets are a great help to new gardeners, but they can also mislead some too, making them think that this is the only time the seed can be sown. As long as it is warm enough a seed will germinate...Steve...😁

Great video as usual Steve, and blimey judging by the amount of rain you had on the day of filming, it's a good job you haven't got a leak somewhere. As for the seeds part, i get some of mine from Premier Seeds as well, and also the odd one or two from Wilkos of course. Stay Safe, Barry (Wirral, ENG)

Hi Steve, I tend to get most of my seeds from DTBrowns or Kings at the Malvern autumn show for £1 packet, but that won't happen this year but fortunately I have 3 large seed boxes to go at. I have used Premiere in the past and also Moles Seeds are also good value for money but they dont always stock the varieties that I want. All of the beetroot varieties you mentioned, I am growing this season. I agree with you about leaching from other channels, about 3 years ago complete episodes of mine where being uploaded by someone in Russia??? It did take a while to get them removed. A lot of people now use a variation of the index and labelling system that I have been using for years, it is nice to see how it helps them out. If I use something I got from another channel, at least I mention it and usually add a link to the channel, be it a method, product or music. Music can be an issue, that is why I purchased my intro music and just use RU-vid audio library or similar Creative Commons that is free for all for use inside the video 👍 All the best 🌻 Nigel .......MuddyBootz Allotment 🌻

"I have been into the youtube settings and there is a swear word filter thing in there, I added some words an somehow or for some reason it put your perfectly reasonable post up for review and I have only just seen it, my apologies for that. I have removed all the words and will have to start again with that." Hi Nigel, I am not too bothered really about my content being used as long as the gardener has actually tried it before preaching to their flock they do it, so its the hoodwinking I don't like. As soon as we post a video we give it away, such is the nature of these things. But I am sure they know by now, judging by the mails I have had others notice it too. "3 seed boxes"...lol I think as gardeners we "collect" seeds...Steve...😁

Wish I could get seeds that cheap around here Steve..sometimes the big box stores have some on sale towards the end of the season, but like now i'm trying to get hold of some seeds for an Autumn crop, no chance they have all been taken off the shelves..at times you almost have to think what you might need when you're buying your seeds for summer cropping..anyway more great content..

Hi Stephen, it has been a difficult year for getting hold of seeds here also, due to lockdown more people have been growing plants whilst at home. Fortunately my collection is huge, I must remember to show that on camera one day...Steve...😁

Yeah I took a leaf out of your book Steve and now use Premier Seeds and I’m more than happy with they’re price and the germination rate is excellent even the Parsnip seeds which I’ve been told are quite difficult to get a good germination rate, Excellent video content as always more power to your elbow mate. 👍😉 Frankie.

Cheers Frankie, I found that at first I was saving £20-30 at the start of a season, but now I just spend that "extra" on more seed, and I order somewhere around 10 times a year from them...Steve...😁😁

Great video. I don't like people who copy people work. I think if they say I see this that's fair. I've always wanted to save seeds potatoes but never have yet. Don't wanna do it wrong lol

Just save and store them along with your harvest, in a sack (paper or hessian) somewhere dark and cool too...Steve...😃

Hi Steve well said mate and I’m glad you addressed the issue and as someone else said more power to your elbow 👍👍 as an aside if you don’t mind me asking do the premier seeds have the information of when to sow etc similier to say a wilkos packet, and also excuse my ignorance as I’m relatively new to this, what does the term F1, F2 etc actually mean ?? Thanks for making the videos they really are great to watch, stay safe mate, David 👍👍
@GreenSideUp
@GreenSideUp 4 года назад
Hi David, all info for Premier Seeds packets are on the website, it takes some getting used to not have it on the back of the packet, but it is how they keep costs down, no fancy stuff..just good seeds and cheap. "F1" refers to genetics and it is a hybrid of two different varieties of plant that each have good qualities. They are crossed together then the seed from that will be an F1 hybrid and have the qualities of both mother and father. Seed saved from an F1 seed grown plant becomes an F2 and it might not contain the qualities of its ancestors, it is best not done, buy fresh F1 seed. The "f" does stand for something but I have long since forgotten what, I would have to go look it up somewhere...Steve...😃

I was wondering, a few days ago I tipped out a bag of charlotte potatoes that I had left over from some I bought. I planted them in February. There was enough for 2 - 3 meals, but a lot of little ones, so I put them back in the same bag to see if they will produce anything... what are my chances of getting some more?

Hi Kath, I think the chances are pretty good, many gardeners this time of year will plant a pot or bucket up with potatoes aiming to get new potatoes for Christmas, it is not too far now to being a tradition. I have tried it over the years a few times and for me the return was too small for me to bother or the pots got caught by frost...Steve...👍
