I have learned lessons about Cosmos seedlings recently, and I share this experience with you today. We use soil blocking for all small seeds and I run through our techniques here. The video looks at Cosmos seedling but the techniques in using seed blocks is the same for all types.

@Moorfield Farm Flowers has been a very late spring so everything very far behind. Except my Dahlia. All started with your expert advice. If only you could send me some of your trade plants I would be delighted but Brexit has scuppered that. Am at Chelsea on Thursday so cannot wait for that

Hi, I hope you are well. Thank you for your very informative videos. I wonder have you heard of Lisa Mason Zigler. She is the guru of seed blocking! She has U tube videos which are very good and easy to follow. Also I have discovered by trial and error a great seed blocking mix which I’m happy to share with you if you’d like. The mix really does keep the block very well together and you can keep the seedlings in the blocks for longer. I’ve been soil blocking for two years now and I’ve grown to really love this method. Hi Helen, thanks for this. Yes please share your favourite mix formula. I have found that packing the mix into the blocks firmly is a must for stability. These blocks were a little loose probably because I didn't take enough care with the packing (I've made a little gadget which presses the mix into the blocker which works well. Seed blocking is fun because you can watch the magic of germination, and get right in there and be involved :) Thanks again for sharing, and I hope you have a great season.

I have germinated Cosmos Purity this spring from last year’s seeds. (As you say, it’s very useful.) It’s surprising that not one of yours germinated. A bit mysterious.

HI Jan, Yes I agree. I think it's safe to assume the seeds have had some form of assault - either physical or disease, to damage them. The replacements are galloping ahead now so we will have our Purity after all. I hope your growing is going well, and especially those Dahlias!
