I dont know if the dev still has the stance, but i do vagueally remember him saying in a post, that he does not want to release it on steam ever a few years ago, when i first heared about the game from SplatterCatGaming. Maybe it will get to steam on 1.O version, but i doubt it. Even if, considering how slow updates are, that would be still several years in the future.

I looked at the website and it says he doesn't want to even think about steam until they are finished. Even then it's a maybe but a man can hope!

For me being on steam isn't a hard requirement =]

Small fleet going around and growing, big fleet taking big fights, small colony and development, and big colony and messing around against other factions. I was happy to hear about him going back to this series and continuing where he left.

Instantly, no, but it will heavily damage your ship requiring a lot of supplies for repairs. If you reach critically damaged then it is possible your ships go boom

It is possible but you have to lug it around the system while over your cargo capacity, costing you more supplies than its worth. The penalty for being over capacity is very harsh!

@Rhadamant I think you can sell to the pirates, if you have a good relationship with the them and they have a pirate station in the system

Honestly the best advice I can offer if you are new is to try every ship you can and just get a feel for how they handle and what they do. There are tier guides for Starsector you can find on Reddit and their official website that will help you filter the bad ships out, however.

Autofitting your ships gives you a good starting point, BUT just like Rhadamant does you have to verify that the ships are equipped with what the autofit wanted to put there. When autofitting, the game is limited to what's in the stores, storage, and cargo, and chances are you won't have everything the autofit wants to put in. A lot of new players miss this, and just blindly autofit, so their loadouts are not good. One easy but tedious workaround is to just autofit at multiple markets until everything matches. Eventually you'll learn more about the different weapons and hullmods and you can customize your builds to suit your preference and to more effectively counter the enemies you plan to fight. For example you want lots of anti-armor weapons and missiles like Reapers if you're fighting low tech-heavy pirates, pathers, and the drones guarding domain-era probes and such, but if you're fighting other factions and the light blue REDACTED, you'll want to balance that with anti-shield weapons and missiles like Sabots. As for beginner friendly ships, I would say take the Apogee start and use that, plus a Sunder or two. Large Energy weapons are crazy strong against pirates and most early game fleets, have huge range if you add Integrated Targeting Unit and Advanced Optics, and the Apogee can equip a Squall MLRS which will scare everything away. So it's a great beginner ship to fly for that reason, plus it has great default flux stats and thus is quite forgiving in terms of loadout. Honestly, beyond that, most beginners are better off piloting frigates IMO because there are fewer weapons and they are easier to maneuver. Anyway, any good snipers need tanks to hold the line. Omens and Monitors are great tanky frigates that are good all the way through to late game, and aren't really that difficult to find. Destroyers are not great for tanking, and you'll be able to pick up cruisers pretty quick anyway, so those will likely be the backbone of your fleet. Early on I like Eradicators because they are easy to find, are fairly tanky, and with a default burn of 9 they don't slow your fleet down too much.
