I had them both and loved my genesis more. Splatter house, Decap attack and haunting by Poltergeist, moon walker, and the Sega CD add on.

Sega Genesis Mini 2 is better because the games in the Mini 1 have already been released numerous of times in past collections and virtual console services.

Is the mini 2 better hardware and emulation capability than the mini 1? Or the same? I just got the mini 1 and debating on NOT unboxing it, thinking id sell it to get the mini 2 ( which is annouingly more ecpensive)... wondering did i make a mistake in terms of performance capabilities? People are saying the mini 1 has sound lag... is that really true? Would hakchi fix this if so? Any info is super helpful.

If you were modifying it, the mini 2 has slightly better hardware. But if you are not modifying it, the value comes down to how you feel about the game library. I own both.

I would say both sega genesis mini 1 and sega genesis mini 2 are great

So for the Original Mega Drive Mini my favs are: Sonic The Hedgehog, Sonic Spinball, , Wold of Illusion, Golden Axe, Phantasy Star IV, Castlevania: New Generaion, Shinobi III, Street Fighter 2, Ghouls N Ghosts and Earthworm Jim. So you have like 10 games I have direct go to's not saying the other games are bad they are really good mostly. As for the MD Mini 2: Alien Soldier, After Burner II, OutRun, Space Harrier II, Super Hang On, Desert Strike, Earthworm Jim 2, Phantasy Star II, Midnight Resistance, Atomic Runner, Bonanza bros, Ristar (Even though the sound emulation is off) Street Fighter 2 new challengers, Final fight CD, Sonic CD, Sonic 3D, Ninja Warriors and Silpheed. So you have 18 games on this mini that are a direct go to for me, however you do have a lot more games I am dis interested in playing on this mini. So it really does kind of works out as a tie. However at a pinch I prefer the titles on the Model 1 mini generally speaking.

I just wish there was a clearing of the music rights so that we could get a real re-release of Sonic 3 & Knuckles. If the Mini 2 had the English Sega CD Lunar and Lunar 2.. it would have been amazing. Sewer Shark and Night Trap kind of bring it down a bit in my opinion. Crusader of Centy was a very pleasant surprise as it is ridiculously expensive physically.

I'm more confused about him talking out loud about how much better he thinks the Super Nintendo is in the middle of a Sega console comparison video, then proceeding to call Genesis owners losers?

@inDN Agreed! I'm from the UK, and all those great RPGs he mentions for the SNES? None came out in the UK. Imagine that. No FF6/3, No Chrono Trigger, No Super Mario RPG. The SNES really seemed inferior compared to the Megadrive for us. I remember playing Another World (you would have seen it as Out of this World) and it had loading times on the SNES, on a cartridge. Longer than the Mega CD version! Crazy.
