And it's also a bummer that this is the only good sounding double dragon game on the mega drive. Because the rest sounds like arse.

@@scm64entertainment44 Really? The first one had a good soundtrack, even if the sound effects were literally ass! The third D.D. game on the Genesis/Mega Drive also had decent sound, and was an overall good port of a bad game too.

@@freakyfornash i'm talking about the mega drive/genesis ports not every port. software creations just didn't know what they were doing with the Gems sound engine..or in that case, the sound chip. they just sound so ear piercingly bad. to me, it's like listen a swarm of wasps failing to imitate Metallica. or maybe the music in these ports sound like butchered versions of their arcade counterparts. if you don't know what I'm talking about, replay the mega drive versions of soundtracks for double dragon 1 and 3 to see why i don't like how they sounded. Because I know I listened to much better mega drive soundtracks than those.

Yeah it's a crap port of a series of games that is already kind of shoddy compared to what followed it. But this port has a good soundtrack & uses Sakimoto's Terpsichorean driver.

For sure the Double Dragon games pale compared to Final Fight or the Streets of Rage serie but still I have a soft spot for Double Dragon 1 & 2 arcade, the 1st one in particular which was one of my 1st arcade thrills looong time ago (around 1989) during some awesome holidays! :')

Oh & yeah this sound driver rules (Verytex; Gauntlet; Devilish...) & should have been used more often.

It's a case of the console version being shite because the port is *too* accurate. Double Dragon 2 arcade was a well-designed game but MUCH worse programmed than the first one, chugging along on a platform with way lower resolution than the Megadrive's. All the slowdown problems of the arcade are present here, not actually any worse but made to look to it from the hardware.

@@ryzmaker11 Honestly I would take the arcade versions of double dragon or part 2 over any final fight game. I would take super double dragon over final figth 1 and 2 on the snes. I do not remember final fight 3 much. I need to go back and play that.

I think 2 for NES is considered the best. The one for GBA is also pretty good. This port is sadly not, except for the music.

Double Dragon 2 NES is actually very good; although the MD one is closer to the arcade it's not as fun (and it's also pretty pricey to own). DD3 on NES would have been great if it weren't so nasty hard and only have one life. DD3 on Genesis is an arcade port that's actually better than the arcade game, but it's only "okay." Super Double Dragon (Return of Double Dragon) on SNES is GREAT. Definitely worth picking up. DDV......... okay moving on.

There's also a rather bland Double Dragon 2 on PC Engine CD. About Super Double Dragon on SNES, I won't go as far as saying that it's "great". It could have been because it had potential with its cool move set but it's just so damn slow, with tiny and bland-looking sprites, forgettable music and all.

I see. I thought the moves set was what made it great to me.

It's cool and maybe even unique, at least for its time, but the rest is so dull. I can't help but think that the Mega Drive would have been a much better platform to host this game since the pace would have probably been faster, with more sprites on-screen and some kick-ass FM tunes in the same vein as DD 1 and 2 arcade. BTW I realized afterwards that you're one of the iretrogamers? Love your show guys!

Dunno if they tried to emulate the slowdowns of the arcade & ended with overabundance of them or if they really made that bad of a game engine but it's a fail either way ^^' Still there are worse programmed MD games IMO, ever played Nakajima Satoru Kanshū F1 Hero MD aka Ferrari Grand Prix Challenge? Well, you know, there aren't many bad MD games, there are lot of mediocre ones, lot of good ones & lot of great ones but totally awful ones? Not that much & aforementioned game is one of these few cases. It's just plain broken, the game engine is non-existant.

DD2 for the Mega Drive is so bad programmed that has slow down in the option menu LOL Anyway, i love Double Dragon

I'm in the options menu right now (but on Kega as I'm not sure if I have to own the game) but can't trigger the slowdowns, how did you manage that? As for Double Dragon serie, 1 & 2 arcade are cool which is why I'm pissed that both Mega Drive ports are quite crappy while both could have been extremely faithful & maybe even better than the originals! :/

I wouldn't say it sounds fuller than the arcade, sounds a bit screechy due to the higher pitch, stage 1 sounds pretty hollow compared to the arcade but the rest is well done.
