2023 was a fantastic year for GMTs with the release of the Longines Spirit Zulu Time in the much anticipated 39mm size, the all new Longines HydroConquest GMT, and my favorite Seiko Marine Master 200 GMT SPB383. I have loved GMT watches for years after owning the likes of the Rolex Explorer II, Tudor Black Bay GMT, Tudor Black Bay Pro, Grand Seiko SBGM221, Zodiac Super Sea Wolf GMT Sherbet, and more.
Another GMT Seiko released in 2023 was the awesome Alpinist GMT SPB377 and SPB379. I’ve been wearing my SPB379 for the past couple months, I’ve been loving it more and more. But now in 2024, with the arrival of the Seiko 5 Field GMT SSK023 and SSK025, the vaunted Alpinist GMT has some competition at a far lower price. When I reviewed this watch i enjoyed it but wondered whether or not its worth buying over the Alpinist GMT
So in this video, I’m going to compare the Alpinist GMT against the cheaper Field GMT by going over all the aspects of the watch: dial, case, etc, giving points in 8 categories, 6 worth 10 points and 2 worth 5 to see how these two seiko adventure watches stack up against each other. Is the Alpinist GMT worth the higher price or should you just save some money and get the Field GMT? Lets find out.
