Having the Hamilton for a while now, it's one of those pieces that you take off your wrist, look for another watch to wear, and then just go back to it instead. It's a great watch, and more versatile than you would think.
Absolutely right! I've had my 38mm Auto for a week now... Really reminds me of my old Omega from 2003...It just feels solid, beautiful and classic. I'm so impressed with the brand (my first watch from Hamilton), and it makes me wonder - is it really worth saving for years to buy a Rolex or anything else over £5000?
@@Valera_Scotland I had a rolex op, sold it and bought a Hamilton khaki field 38mm, no regrets and the more you wear the Hamilton the more you love it. By far one of a best watches for the money. I've also had the sarb033, I got bored of it within a month a sold it, it's not as versatile and I would class it as a dress watch.
@@coffeeboyclips1973 Thanks for the comment... Still wearing mine and loving it. And in terms of accuracy, it's 2 seconds slow a day, which is very impressive.. The only negative I can see is - it really is very shiny, as it has no AR coating, but it doesn't bother me too much
Young man. You won me over. Your presentation was accurate and concise. I like the history you gave to both watch brands. Your vocal and visual approach kept me attentive to the very end of the video. I consider your style to be right up there with the Urban Gentry and of course Teddy Baldassarre. But seeing the amount of subscribers you're currently having, I noticed I came to the show a bit late. Keep up the good work. I happen to own the SARB033 and the Hamilton Khaki King. Both great time pieces! Again, great video young man.
The two brands that sent me down the watch rabbit hole. I own the Hamilton, and as others have said, wear it a ton as it fits in so many situations. I like the Seiko too but have to go with the Hamilton. Great video.
Recently purchased a Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical watch with the olive green dial with date function. I’ve really enjoyed wearing this and probably gets the most wrist time amongst my collection which includes Rolex, IWC, etc. this is the first manual wind watch I’ve owned and probably the best “value” watch out there. Highly recommend getting this.
Design, solid links, movement with hacking and winding, and with the addition of a sapphire crystal, the additional cost is not hard to swallow. The SKX on the other hand... with the increase in price for none of the above, I continue to shake my head and hope to find a great deal on the grey market.
Owned the silver dialed Khaki 38 for 3 years now. It beats anything at the price point no contest. And I'm a huge Seiko fan.. so that probably says alot.
I like both brands, but being an American living in Berlin, Germany, the nostalgia kicks in and for me would be a Hamilton. Maybe not this particular model, but I just love Hamilton's design pattern in watches. I own a gold case, silver dial Intamatic 38mm, and I'm in love with it.
Yes the hammy checks all the boxes. I had an intramatic as well, I miss those skinny hands sometimes, but I needed a second hand to watch when I got bored 🤓
That Hamilton 38mm Auto is, for me anyway, the best watch in the world under £500. I had it on the steel bracelet and selling it is a huge regret. Under 500 in the used market is really interesting, you can get Max Bill autos and beautiful 1960's/70's Divers from Yema and Zodiac. My biggest mistake ever was getting outbid on a Gen 1 Seiko and not pushing it past my £500 limit, it went for £590 and now is easily £1500. I'm sure the watch world is littered with these stories. Great vid again Max, your camera work is top drawer.
Never had the hammy on a bracelet but it looks nice! Good point about vintage, I keep itching for a vintage seawolf when they come up for sale. The journey is littered with stories of ones that got away 😊. Appreciate it always for your thoughtful comments Morgan!
Great video and 2 stunning watches. Not a big fan of using a term "entry level" as it gives the idea you have to "move up". For value I would always champion an Orient Ray 2. Superb history, great quality and given dive/dive style watches seem to be in vogue, it ticks most of the boxes
Haven't had the chance to wear an Orient, my friends seem to like them. I think I have trouble understanding how they stand out compared to Seikos of a similar price range.
@@WatchCrunchOfficial Well I guess the thing is they aren't at the same price point, Orient tends to be at an even more affordable price point. With the exception of Orient Star, the higher grade which definitely stands out more than Seiko's or Swiss made at a similar price point. I would definitely give them a try, ultimately everyone is different but I would be surprised if you aren't impressed by either Orient or Orient Star
I bought my Sarb033 a couple of months ago and just splurged on a Hamilton Khaki Feild 42mm Auto used and coming in within the next week. These are two of my favorite looking watches for under $500. Can't wait until the Hamilton comes in
@@WatchCrunchOfficial Thanks! How large is your wrist? Mine is around 7 inches. Im wondering if it'll fit my wrist now that I've read how long the lug to lug is..
I ended up buying the Hamilton as I could not find a new Seiko since they stopped making them. I'm very happy with the Hamilton. The movement is very accurate and the watch is a real strap monster. It's put me off buying more expensive watches..thats a good thing :)
Another great video Max! I just bought the last cream milk dial Sarb033 from Amazon ( Sold by Amazon) for less than $500. Love its classic Seiko dress watch look with modern 6r15 movement.
I like your "set", the great camera shots as well as your rhythm and tone of voice. Thanks for sharing your passion. Yesterday, I went to my local jewelers and got this model of the Hamilton Khaki but in the 42mm version. I must say that it's going to stay on my wrist for a while b/c I find it very classy and wearable on a day to day basis. What I specifically like is that it's not too classy that I leave it in it's display box during this time of Pandemic where we can't have or go to any events. I find that the strap they chose is a good quality strap but a little stiff at first (normal, it's leather) so, breaking it in is another reason why I'm keeping it on my wrist for a while (sorry to my other watches who won't get any wrist time 😉).
I still have both. I preferred the black face to start with and fitted an upgraded bracelet from Long Island, but with time I now prefer the white face. Not noticed the different hands. I will check it now.
For Field watch i think the Citizen Garrison BM8180-03E Eco Drive is a more simple reliable watch the dial is less busy than the hamilton and it has it's own unique design.
I bought the Hamilton a few years back and really like the light weight, I'd been wearing dive watches and just got tired of the bulk and weight I think my next purchase will be a Laco type B. Any thought on it, it's in about the same price range?
I actually just grabbed one. I love it, except for the rather thin strap width on the 39. Think I may have found a solution, I'm making a video about it soon.
A year on and I'd just like to register my appreciation of a super presentation - informative and entertaining. I'm new to this game despite my not so new age. I want a decent watch rather than the scratched up quartz which just about does the job. Maybe a Hamilton? You certainly do a great job describing its virtues!!
I have the Hamilton khaki king 2 and the sarb 033 and sarb 035. I wholeheartedly agree with you. The Hamilton khaki king is probably my favorite between the two but just barely. The long power reserve, versatility and it literally is +2 seconds a day on the accuracy. The Lume is better on the sarb’s but the Hamilton khaki king just is my favorite “every day” style watch. It can do anything
Nice content Max! Your channel should definitely take more attention. I made a decision between Sarb033 and Sarb035 in the beginning of this year and got Sarb035 which is also very classy watch in my opinion. But now I`m a bit sad that I didn`t get Sarb033 as well because currently it is nearly impossible to get it new , only used ones in the market.
Good video. I would not have included the SARB given that it's a discontinued watch. Many people want to be able to walk into a shop, try things on and take away their purchase, something not possible with the SARB.
Absolutely love what you are doing and how you are doing it! I don't own a Hamilton (yet) but I do own the 033 and it is indeed classy AF! Oh and my first Auto was a gorgeous little SNXS79 which still get's plenty of wrist time to this day.
all luxury watches r way way overpriced and need to be scaled down, the best watch there is should be max 10k and most luxury watches starting at 500$. this whole industry is a scam
I think the Hamilton is amazing and one of the best, if not the best field watch. I am a fan of field watches because I actually use them for the military time (I own the SNGZ13). With that said I am a dress/sporty dress watch style guy st heart so I would choose the Sarb. It is just such a well made watch with good weight, case design, size (personal preference) and I even enjoy the look of the movement.
I actually sold my Hamilton Khaki field after owning it for 3 years to fund my sarb033 a year ago for its subtle beauty and versatility. Personally, I think sarb033 is more appealing as a one watch collection compare to Hamilton for its simplicity with a touch of classic design that make it almost timeless. The less is more design philosophy it adopted make it easily fit in well with any look in any occasion. On the other hand, Hamilton Khaki field seems to be trying too hard and seems a little too busy to look at, which make it a watch that only goes well with casual look and it will look a little out of touch on your wrist when you suit up.
They are very different watches from a design perspective. Though the hammy dial is busier, it does have a strong field watch connection. I'm glad you found the one that suits your palate 😉
@@WatchCrunchOfficial Thanks. Yes, indeed it is with its strong association to vintage military watches that actually served the army. It's very appealing to those who are into military watch but lacking in versatility compare to Sarb033 imo, it would be a good piece to be added into one's watch collection rather than Sarb033.
Khaki Field is a field watch with 5ATM WR, SARB is a dressy watch with 10ATM WR. Between the two of them, SARB is tougher and more versatile. You can dress SARB up and down as you like with any straps you like. With Khaki, because of the long lug, it wouldn't look good in most two piece straps because the gap would be too big. For one watch collection, SARB. For two watch collection, SARB and DW5600.
Agree with you, though the 39mm khaki is much more manageable than the 42. Proportion wise, it's also noticably thinner than the SARB. Both great watches.
My personal experience with both brands makes the Hammie my choice. The quality of the Hamilton makes the idea of buying more expensive watches seem more for status than anything else.
Ive owned the sarb for about a year. Wear it usually on casual dress up events. Until I got the 38 hamilton auto. Now the hamilton is my daily and also my semi dress casual watch. Havnt worn the sarb since.
I love the SARB033, but since it's discontinued the prices went up quite a bit. I was looking at prices of 500€ and up, so I decided to pay an extra 100€ to buy the SARX035 instead and it's going to arrive tomorrow :)
Great comparison, thanks. The way I wear them, my Hamilton runs admirable +2s/24hr while the Seiko ticks steady +7s/24hr, both accurate enough and more importantly, predictable. With the work from home thing going on, I only seem to wear my Hamilton while Seiko and others get to rest on the shelf. Seiko's a tad more formal but can't really go wrong with neither watches (or brands, even).
Thanks Mike! Yeah the Hamilton is definitely the watch for all occasions. If you can get over the busy dial, then it's hard to think of a better watch for the money!
Loved your video, great presentation, narration, rhythm and camera work, it should have much more views! Hitting "Subscribe" now. One question: what brand are those straps?
This is a great review, Max. Just recently discovered your channel and subscribed; I really like your classy, laid back style. You're kind of the "anti-Archie," lol. I have both the sarb033 and 035 and love them both. Have thought about the Hammy, but not sure if I would get much wear out of it, as I rock the sarbs so much. Keep up the great content!
Haha, thanks Pete for your kind words. I can only dream of summoning Archie level passion for watches 😂. You have a great pair there, agree there may not be room for a khaki auto!
Hamilton for the win, then just buy an Orient Bambino for a dress watch and a Kamasu for a dive watch and you got a damned nice $800 3 watch collection.
During my tours of duty in Central America and South America in the 80s I was introduced to the Hamilton Khaki, it was a loaned from my command, and it was passed along to my replacement and so forth. I loved it so much that once I got back to my home base I bough one and I used it as my day to day watch. Nowadays I own three Hamiltons, and I love them. Great review, you have a new subscriber here. Best regards from San Juan, Puerto Rico, stay safe 🙏
Just ordered this watch. Thanks for the info! I’m a musician and my band just made our second vinyl album. The grooves on this watch look like grooves on a vinyl album and I didn’t notice this til after I ordered the watch. Think it’s a sign?
Watching this while waiting for my hamilton 38mm. I have a black dial omega AT 38 as my classy AF watch. But i baby this watch too much, and the hamilton seems like the right choice with its versatility, I wouldnt might too much taking it swimming, to the beach, etc.
Simple mathematics. Simply buy both and don’t be bothered of which is the one. You’ll be in different occasions in different days. Unless you are in the position to choose between AP and VC just do it. Why want to crack your head for a simple equation? Honestly I prefer the combination of Khaki King and Sarb033 period.
I wear my Hamilton Khaki Field Auto, 38mm with jeans, chinos and a suit when the occasion calls for it. I love this watch so much, I'm thinking of getting the one with the silver face.
The seiko is flat out better looking but it is a little more dressy which may be a problem and it’s like a grand for one now. It’s a damn shame that Hamilton did the whole murph thing and charges almost half again more for a khaki with a dial that doesn’t have a bunch of shit all over it.
I have the Hamilton khaki field mechanical officer and I am looking for a SARB033 or 035 but because I have already a mechanical watch I found this Seiko SUR311P1 for more formal occasions and also for less worries about its cost maintenance. Which of the two you suggest me? The one is automatic and the other is quartz. But I thought I do not really need a second mechanical or automatic to avoid the costs of double servicing in the future. Would you suggest this quartz or the Sarb for my occasion? Like so much your video!
Thanks for your comments! I would never recommend a quartz if you can go mechanical. You are just getting so much more for your money and service intervals are a bit over emphasized and can be stretched a bit. I would recommend you check out the seiko cocktail time if you can wear a 40mm, it's got a beautiful dial.
@@WatchCrunchOfficial I just thought as if I will have this quartz and no worries to magnetized or losing time or having a damage that will cost me too much. Because I cannot afford two different high priced services. But if the Sarb can withstand through a lot then I can go for it.
@@achillesdanieladam9486 you can easily demagnetize a watch yourself, but if you are really looking for a beater quartz, then I'd go for a gshock or something truly rugged. A dress watch that's quartz just makes me shutter 😬
Nice video bud! Just a question, which ones wears smaller? I’m looking for an everyday watch to buy for my wedding and to keep it with me for a long long time. I have a small wrist (6.3 inches) so I’m looking for something not to big. Thanks!
