Well I’m here because I was listening to Drake “No Friends in the Industry” and this video’s link popped up in the top left corner of my screen… and I clicked it. Before I knew it I believe I became a fan instantly. The song fits a current unfolding relationship between me and my befriend. She is amazing and this song resonates with me because the twists and turns of trying to regain calm between us seems rhetorical. So in terms of the story it's about the end of a toxic relationship with domestic violence, right? They cleverly cut away or don't show the violent parts: like only a split second of him aggressively grabbing her arm, or that the video starts with him panting after hitting her but without showing the actual slap on the face. I assume the silent scene is when a domestic abuser runs out of excuses but she is ready to forgive him once again. She tends to only remember the good parts as she misses him but there are also hints of the bad stuff, indicating why this toxic relationship had to end between them ("you're the worst thing I ever had"). It's great that the director didn't make it too obvious so it can be seen as just a regular break-up story while at the same time it can be interpreted as much more than that. Or I might just be overthinking it.
