@@richardbates2367 131 inches according to the VIN tag which matches the factory literature. According to what I see, all F-250 trucks had a 131 inch wheelbase by default. The paint color code is for Rangoon Red. Best wishes! - Max Giganteum
Please don't give up on getting the original engine unstuck just yet. I had to let mine soak for 2 weeks with ATF in the cylinders and diesel fuel in the crank case. But it did come unstuck, and it had sat for 40 years.
Dude, that’s awesome. I had a 71 camper special when I was 17 and it got wrecked. 50 years later I bought a 78 ford f250 high boy and I’m almost done restoring it
Oh man that's really cool. I'm sorry you wrecked the 71 but you made up for it with the 79. I'm going to find a high boy this spring hopefully! =) I would love to see some pics of yours when its done.
Yes, the old trucks are pretty cool Slade. You can still find some deals out there. This one was only $1,500 with a title. Not too bad....=) Happy New Year buddy!
@@CTmoog yes, that one was very cheap. That was a super great deal. By me, I believe they might be made of gold lol. I hope you have a great day my friend.
My daughter and I just picked up our 1968 Ford F250 Custom Cab Camper Special. Drive it home from LA. Had new rebuild on the original 360. About 80% original no A/C but does does have a 8 Track Am/FM radio 😅

Love swamp music from them hillbillies! You have to love those old Ford trucks! I had a "company truck " like that on my second tour in the Angolan war.
Great Video, I have a 75 F250 CS I got 25 years ago abandoned in a church parking lot. I am getting it ready to hit the road again. Best of luck to you on your restore...
I do like bump side old Ford trucks, that's why own a 71 version. The white wagon wheels are after market. Might use some Poppy's Patina stuff on the paint.
if it's true iam sad to see that Rusty has gone, I joined the channel when you picked up Rusty, all the promises of doing this and that with Rusty, Swamp Dragon, etc never happened, let's hope you finish this one, Pllleessee.?
Me too I was looking for a project for building a rat rod shop truck and I have a fairly solid project or it is now thanks to the ground squirrel for chewing on my wiring harness for map sensor connector pigtail which shares it ground wire between several different sensors including the tps and the fuel pump relay and crank sensor so it doesn't currently run now, anyway it is a 2000 dodge ram laramie slt quad cab long bed 318 magnum V8 46 RH manual shift transfer case lever on the floor 1500 4x4 truck has 210k miles on it it ran strong for a 318 magnum V8, the front suspension is completely rebuilt and the truck drove better than most of the second gen dodge trucks I've been in, owned or been around. The transmission worked great because the previous owners replaced the front pump, input shaft seal and torque converter so if you shifted this truck into reverse and you didn't have your foot on the brake pedal it would just start backing up, and I have already replaced most of the brake lines from a complete set of stainless steel brake lines from classic tube out of ohio except for the ones up under the bed since they don't leak yet but they are in the truck, and the front rubber brake hoses are also in the truck id just bought those before the ground squirrel attacked the wiring harness. Anyways I'm looking for a preferred 68-71 Ford f250 camper special equipment truck which is usually either a custom cab, or a sport custom trim truck, and hopefully a fe bbf, automatic transmission but would consider a 4spd floor shift manual transmission or a column shift 3spd manual transmission, and the camper special truck has better brake Pckg in the front even if it is not disc brakes that they have in 69-72 trucks, and the rear 8 or 11 leaf spring pack per side and dana 60 rear end beefy truck. .
The truck is oxidized from sitting in the sun and it has baked off the clear coat I had a bright red 82 Chevy k20 Silverado and it also turned pink lol
1968 for sure did have door switches for the lights, for some reason yours is missing but the wires should be in there. Also that red light on the lower left of the dash lights up when starting to show it works but if it stays on it means you have an issue with your brakes and/or the proportional valve. It has nothing to do with the emergency brake like many people think.
Hey that rest bumper should extend out it's on the frame in a channel which it slides in and out on depending how long your camper extends over the bed of the truck
CT some of those had a small generator under the hood where you were saying the second battery went. It would charge the battery and give power to the camper plug. I think that is the set up you have!
@@CTmoog Without the full video under my belt, the generators generally were old school Onan brand generators. Going on memory, they pulled fuel from the normal fuel system and yes, they would provide power to a camper that rode in the bed. You could run all the lights, heat (if there was electric heat installed as opposed to LNG), a hot water heater, a cooking stove/oven, an A/C unit and if so equipped... plug in to sockets on the exterior of the camper. What it all boiled down to was how the camper was set up. Some were built all electric and others weren't. Some were set up to run LNG tanks for heat, hot water and the stove. Electrical power was supplied by dual batteries under the hood and the electrical was only used for a few lights in the interior. To the best of my knowledge, all the generators were aftermarket units. None were made by nor installed by Ford. The dual battery setups including the wiring for them was a factory install. Anyone else feel free to comment on that if your memory varies. Best wishes! - Max Giganteum Edit: after finishing the video, I see no evidence of a generator having been installed on this truck.
The clicking you here when turning ignition is a relay to the right of the glove box, only camper specials came with that relay for the camper hookup and certain optioned lights. And no, radio not original, only had an am radio.
The 1965 Beetle is done. Just needs Glass and a few detail items. Did you watch the first drive video? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lk1q1m4HihI.html
Hi CT, I'd call it Custom Jack like Jack Daniel's. What is going on with Rusty? I was hoping to see you weld in the floor pan and dog legs soon? Going to be putting the 40h vw motor picked up in the shop soon to play around with. Got it for 50 bucks plus a bunch of good parts so not loosing money on it if it's shot? Will seen when I get going on it
It's kind of sad to sell it before it's finished. It does cost allot to finish them though. I'm at the point that I need to sell some of my projects to keep moving on. He definitely has the room on the farm to store allot more.
@@TimsWorkshopTJY it’s also sad cuz that’s the bus that started the popularity of this channel. RU-vid pushed that content and the bus never got done. I think it sucks even more when you sell a project after it’s done unless that’s the goal from the beginning.
That truck brings back so many memories! We had a green '68 F250 Highboy on the farm back when I was a kid. Sold it when we sold the farm. I miss that truck! I look forward to watching your progress on this one. What will be your approach to getting this one resurrected? If it were me, I'd get the engine, transmission, fuel system, and brakes/suspension all squared away before I started messing with the cosmetic issues (depending on how bad the rust is, of course). EDIT: As I continue watching the video, it sounds like your plan is similar to what I'd end up doing. Cool!
couple years ago i restored a 1977 camper special f250 style side dumped the 351M replaced with a 390FE with a Tremec TKX 5 speed and 4:10 limited slip rear and inside new carpet TMI bucket seats , digital gauges all new glass and all new lenses and 9X18 inch wheels and tires two tone Ruby Red Pearl and Cream.........Cost about 30,00 to finish......Was it worth it ?????????

Wheels are for sure aftermarket, and the hooks on the side are definitely not original as implied. People added those to strap a load down since no spots in the bed to attach to.
Nice work a f a f1000 Ford jewel good restoration I hope you achieve it with your work with your sweat here a hug from Lau tapestry Matão São Paulo Brazil 🇧🇷🛻
Yes, it came with an extra starter. This engine is seized up bad. I'm pulling it out this week and installing a rebuild 360 with some extra goodies! =) Stay tuned!
You must not remember that starter that that guy gave you to gold stat track. The reason for the start of the tinder doesn't work. So if you didn't touch it out, then that mean that they're gonna stop huntil. You're put the news starter in there
Seven projects you said? What about Rusty, the two or three Karmann Ghias, the two or three Porsche 914 s, the black Imperial, the Ford Bronco, the VW type II bus, the Swamp Dragon, his brother's Dodge truck?? Have you heard about Jack the Ripper?
I'm 77. I know I won't be around to see them finished. I hope you are. I would like to see the bug get finished while I'm still above room temperature.
Man, you are really trying to ruffle feathers with buying another car and not finishing what you got. What happened to Swamp Dragon? What happened to the bug, etc etc? Anyways, keeping ruffling the feathers CT, it's great for the comment section. Gets people all fired up and leaving hate messages. jaaaa
Putting it in neutral? Rocking the truck? Don't you understand how an automatic transmission works? Neither of those has any affect on turning the engine.
I've been watching for a long time. You are great with the VW. I just don't want to see another classic FORD taken apart and pushed aside. That's all!@@CTmoog
