The question comes up often whether people with POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome) or other autonomic disorders can progress to seizures. Or conversely, patients often with these disorders have been diagnosed with having seizures or suspected of having seizures. Check out this video to learn more about Seizures & Fainting in Autonomic Disorders Presented by Dr. David Saperstein.

Are actual non-epileptic seizures more common in patients with Dysautonomia?

“Non-epileptic seizures” refer to any episode that is not an epileptic seizure. Non-epileptic seizures are often seen in people with dysautonomia. -Dr. Saperstein

I have POTS and documented electro clinical EEG-confirmed focal aware seizures in left temporal lobe. Everyday I have seizures, triggered mostly by sleep transitions.

I have been randomly getting feelings of starvation and they lead to me dissociating from my brain and I sorta just stop functioning- stop responding but I’m aware, I don’t have any blood sugar issues. After an attack I feel so tired, I do have POTS. I’m wondering if I’m having focal autonomic seizures 🧐.

In my last blood draw I had a deep syncope with LOC for about a minute in sitting position then I had a seizure for two minutes with passing urine. I had a similar case before 6 years after wet cupping put it was lighter than the least. I had history of syncope episodes with a specific reason with every episode. My brother had many episodes of seizure without any abnormality in EEG it was normal in every time he checked, he is on depakine after trying levetiracetam that didn’t stop the episodes, but depakine does. What is your opinion in these conditions ?

All my EEG tests come back normal. But I have seizure like episodes. It starts with me feeling chest tightness, can't breath, severe sweating, the need to defecate, then I pass out. Doctors say I'm fine. My heart slows down then it races. I can't stay long on computers or screens. Eye pain constant.

This is the exact thing I do when i have a fainting episode.. Just went to cardiologist and ekg was perfect. Now wearing a heart monitor. If I lay down immediately, I won't pass out.

@@centerforcomplexneurologyit just difficult to hear your voice because you’re soft spoken and the music in the background makes it difficult for some of us. I want to personally thank you and your teammates at the CFCN for your free education and advice on these life threatening issues. It has convinced me to go get neurological screening done before I wreck another car and hurt someone else or myself again. I’m sure that I am speaking for many of us who suffer from these and other neurological disorders or possible disorders when I say thank you all and God bless!

Hi! I am 31, and I am still not convinced that I had a seizure last Oct 2023. Just a brief introduction. I have a history of seizure 20 years ago, but it only occured once and had a medication of carbamazepine for 2 years. So before the event of fainting and had jerky movements on Oct 2023, While I was kind of hungry and thirsty during 2am in the morning, I was in a sitting on a chair and laid back, my mom had to put some kind of eyemo to remove eye irritations. So in short my neck was not in a comfy position then I had to stand and look at the mirror to see the redness of my eyes then had to return to that position again to apply the eyemo again. Then, I felt a pain in the tummy, at first it was like a needed to poo, I felt like vomiting, then it was gone and proceed to the head,it turned to a headache, and i think I had a tunnel vision. Those things happened gradually. So I decided to sit down because I felt dizzy. The next thing I woke on the floor, cold sweat, fast heart beat, but had no strength in my arms and legs. They were trying to wake me up for a minute or less. So Was the position a factor of fainting? Was hungriness and thirstiness also a factor? No "seizure" event happened after that. 2 days after, my mom and dad decided bring me to a Neurologist, but during the questioning, just because it was mentioned that I had a seizure years ago, it was concluded that I had one again. The doctor told me to have a sleep-deprived EEG. To cut the story short, I tried to have the sleep-deprived EEG proceedure but failed on the first and second try because I could sleep during the proceedure. After the third one, it was considered a "success", I slept for just a short time but I can still remember I was subconscious. Then, after the proceedure, the results came out and it was abnormal. But I wasn't really convinced since I am sure that I was somehow conscious and didn't have a deep sleep. Could it be that the EEG wasn't accurate since I was somehow conscious during the proceedure? I didn't want to participate with the proceedure as it requires me to have a deep sleep but I have trouble sleeping during the day. By the way, thank you for this video.

Would you say you had a fainting spell? Because there are such thing as convulsive fainting spells where you pass out but jerk and move as if your trying to fight the faint and not pass out. I'm not sure if I've been having seizures or fainting spells... in 5 years I've fainted 150+ times... now I'm questioning if it's a faint or a seizure because of the fact that I jerk and move while I'm waking up from the faint I'm confused on where I'm at and it takes me 30 seconds to realize where I am.
