Good explanatory piece but acknowledging that we really don't know what the fish do ! I'm just coming down from catching my earliest ever Atlantic springer (29 April)-and on one of my awful home-tied horrors. Keep it up.

Watched a great video with Goran Andersson in it a few years ago and he talked about how he chooses flys based on contrast and speed of water. Choose a big fly in fast water smaller in slow. Try and hide the fly coming to the fish so it surprises them ( dark structure dark fly) but has enough contrast that when it passes over them they see it. This too has some great insights into good fly selection. Thank you for the info 🍻

Great advice from Goran. I've heard this same feedback from some very good guides over the years. 👍

Streamers and wooly buggers are the best! 👍🎣🤙

Winter is baitfish-type streamers time. Try a White Zonker or sculpin pattern. Smaller sizes in clear water. Dark fly in low light. Don't fish under them. Good video !

Anyone ever use a mad river worm poked through the body with a stinger hook trailing in the end during winter? I know mad river is more for gear guys but here in BC it works magic. Our rivers are very canyony I’ve added split shots to T-17 even just to get down fast enough. Thanks for another great video Marcus. 👍🏼

We haven't gone quite that far ! No doubt that would work well though!

Man excellent job. You didn’t skip a beat. I like the use of color palette helps me to imagine color schemes. Hopefully the shop is giving you opportunity to make more videos.

Great advice , 90% of my swinging flies is for trout and what you just discussed holds true for them also . I try to keep myself at 20 flies per outing seems like a good number and as you said it’s all about getting the fly to the fish and having confidence in the flies your using . At some point you will strike it rich and keep track of the flies that work and the conditions you used them in and build a perfect box to take every time . And then you woke up and the cat was licking your face :-)

Hi Marcus like your video. Appreciate the part about how far you are from the ocean. On the klamath where i fish the most i use an orange and pink intruder done around Seiad valley and further down river and it works well for me but when im up near Iron gate it doesnt work then i switch to an olive and burnt orange thing i tie thanks for the video

He doesn't look excited about any fly except the Prozac intruder or the Zoloft zonked 🙃

Are steelhead sea rainbow or sea run rainbow only asking as their was speculation one was caught on a uk river we only have wild browns rainbows are stocked or escape to river but yes it was apparently first ever caught about two years ago
@ashlandflyshop770
@ashlandflyshop770 3 года назад
Yes, they are a sea run rainbow much like you sea trout. Very interesting you had one in one of your brown trout streams over there! Sea run fish are making a lot of adjustments in the world right now I believe.
