Lucy Nathanson is a child therapist and selective mutism specialist who creates resources on selective mutism (SM). SM is an anxiety disorder whereby a child is unable to speak in certain situations. Lucy's videos cover a range of topics e.g. what is selective mutism, what causes selective mutism, characteristics of selective mutism and treatment / therapy.
Her resources are useful for parents and teachers.
Her online courses cover other topics, such as, is selective mutism caused by trauma? (the difference between SM and traumatic mutism), the diagnostic criteria of SM in the DSM and that children can have co-morbid diagnoses e.g. with autism, OCD etc.).
Confident Children offers online sessions for parents and teachers internationally and they deliver therapy for children, including intensive therapy.

It's disheartening to see the lack of support for children with selective mutism. Recognizing it as a distinct condition and developing specific assessment methods and plans could greatly benefit these children. Addressing their unique needs and ensuring a supportive environment is crucial for their safety, well-being, and future success. Advocating for a separate identity within special schools might be a step toward providing more tailored assistance. As parents department still handover autisam forms, that's totally opposite assessment of selective mutism. Still, the department has no selective mustisam forms, no EHCP section that covers selective. The absence of specific plans for selective mutism in mainstream schools exacerbates the challenges these children face. Using autism assessment forms, which may not align with the unique needs of selective mutism, further underscores the need for dedicated tools and strategies tailored to this condition. Advocating for accurate assessments and targeted support is essential to address the distinct challenges these children encounter in mainstream educational settings.

You are the best I have ever come across in regards to selective mutism. Shared your videos with my daughter’s teachers and special teachers,…… they just seem so ignorant about the diagnose. Hope you somehow get into Sweden. Thanks

@@ramshaahmed9043 Thanks for your message! We have helped hundreds (maybe even thousands!) of families of children with SM, and most of our support is through Online Sessions! This is how we help families from all over the world. Sometimes families are sceptical at the start but please try one session with us and see how it works :) Your child should not attend attend the session; you will discuss your child's unique SM with our SM therapist and we will provide you and the school with strategies of what to do to help your child. It works really well, and we have helped many children to overcome SM in this way! See this link to find out more: www.confidentchildren.co.uk/onlinesessionsfaq :)
