Everybody knows Selena was amazing but JLo wasn’t trying to replace her she was trying to show everybody who she is and i think she portrayed her part beautifully as Selena
this wasn't 20 years after Selena's death.. it was only 2 years after hear death.. people haven't even stopped mourning feeling like it happened only yesterday, it was totally distasteful, she didn't do it to honor Selena she did it literally to launch her career and take Selena's spot in the industry as the next pop latin artist..

She worked so hard. Under pressure. Under hatred. Under jealousy. The quintanilla family watching her every move while the movie was being made ... She did such a beautiful job. It's not easy to copy and mimic every detail. Even the smile. Jennifer was taught how and when to smile and do it right. Selena is an angel.
Mexicans and Tejanos criticized her and protest because she's rican and they wanted a mexican ascendant instead, only to realize nobody could do it better than her.

It’s absolutely breath taking how during the dance break at 2:15 JLo got Selena down perfect even to her facial expression. She had her mouth open then started to smile exactly as Selena did. She did an excellent re-enactment but that part she nailed perfectly. Makes me shed a tear. She really helped immortalize selenas legacy and was the perfect way to close out the last chapter of her life.
Wow, Jlo really did study Selena to a T and even did the exact same body movements and facial looks that Selena did during each performance like she wanted to recreate every little detail she did. Props for jlo!

The only differences here is that jlo did her homework on selena while the other actress? Idk but she really didn't captured my attention more than jlo in the movie but other than that at least she tries her best

There's no comparison between Jennifer Lopez and Selena although she was amazing portraying the real Selena the real girl was the best. Selena was a unique person who will never be matched by anything or nobody. I was only in high school when I found out about Selena and immediately fell in love with her amd that was back in 1996.

Wow! Jennifer Lopez really honored Selena in how well she interpreted her performance onscreen. The best I’ve ever seen. Beyond impressive. This must have been hard for the family to watch.
They tried and some of it fell off, which is why she’s wearing extensions in most of the movie after removing it. It’s not just the dye, whoever was straightening her dyed her burnt it. It’s in the docu series from a few years back. They also tried a wig but it looked too fake
Selena's parents have said that at times watching this film was like seeing a ghost and I can see what they mean. Jlo's features are a little sharper - she doesn't have Selena's nose or chin - and Selena was the better dancer. But it's *CLOSE,* my guy. Jesus. A lot better than what Netflix is trying to currently pawn off on us. It's almost like the more time that passes, the more people forget what she was really like.
I always loved Selena. I’m not a big JLo fan sorry thou, Selena was a natural dancer. But no JLo is definitely the more rhythmic dancer. She was bouncing her head. lol not a Selena move but when you feel the music that’s the music in you. They have different styles indeed. Both wonderful but JLo is a better dancer. Selena had the pipes, JLo the dancer.
I think Jennifer got really close body' wise. Of course with her being Puerto Rican there will be a little difference in phenotype. But her makeup was much what Selena wore.They probably used the same makeup artist for the movie. I did pretty well dancing I think. Nobody can do it exactly like Selena did, but she got 85percent of it right. I saw bits and pieces of the show and though the actress has a bit more of a look of Selena, the acting wasn't as good to me.
Agreed. Nobody will ever do Selena justice in a movie or show like JLO did, It's like Selena chose Jennifer herself. Suzette has mentioned how Jennifer would do the same things Selena did and it freaked her out. They have a similar aura. Selena was a natural from the beginning, She was a great singer and a great dancer without any training. JLO was trained and is a very technical dancer..She's great, but Selena was amazing.
Could you imagine attending the real concert and having THE TIME OF YOUR LIFE and then years later going to the movie theaters to relive it! I'd be balling my eyes out😭
Jlo did her best but honestly no one comes close to Selena. She was confident, poised and charismatic. Until today I goes like its such a waste that she died so young. She could have offered more to the world. Wonder why such people have to die and yet useless and evil people are still living.
Jlo did a great job and we should be thankful for having such an amazing performance and have one more thing to help us to remember our diva. I'm glad they used Selena's voice for the movie, at that time Jlo voice wasn't ready to sing like that. There's a show from an awards ceremony when she sings her songs after 20 years but now whith her real voice (better trained and mature) and she did it so nice and respecfully. I know Jlo doesn't have her voice and both are completely unique so we need to stop comparing these artist.

Selena tenía una cintura más pequeña se dice que Jlo tuvo que usar relleno para poder alcanzar el tamaño de los glúteos de Selena..y después decidió operarselas para poder parecer lo más parecida al cuerpo de Selena..por eso en Hollywood se hizo famosa por sus glúteos pero Selena ya había empezado la moda de los glúteos grandes mucho antes..

Sin duda han pasado muchos años desde que selena fue asesinada ya hasta la fecha ninguna artista de origen categoria latino puede decir que la ha superado pues muchas latinas solo van con el pop y usando ahora aitotune por eso esas canciones de las nuevas divas que llaman , sencillamente pasan de moda, selena suena en distintas estaciones radiales en español o ingles por su diversidad musical . Tambien ella paso de ser una artista de musica a un icono a seguir, por eso vemos articulos diversos que se venden con su imagen y son exito de mercado. Todo eso es por la suma del pasado de selena en donde gano mas de 100 premios en vida y ser la unica latina popular en ser la imagen de coca cola o llenar el rodeo mas grande del mundo superando records de asistencia que tenia Sinatra o Jackson, sin olvidar que es la unica mujer en el mundo de la musica en tener 5 albumes completos dentro de los 200 mejores del mundo y ningun hombre o banda lo ha logrado.

I have always thought that Jlo at the Disco Medley was not doing Selena’s moves at all, but with this video I realized she took moves from different parts of the concert... and that is amazing!!! J-Lo did an amazing job!! Don’t get mad, but Jennifer López deserved an Oscar by her role as Rami Malek by his rendition to Freddie... well, that’s my opinion hehe
All am going to say Selena never took of her top during disco medley. So 1 plus 1 is 2 un this case the comparison after a minute is Selena dancing to baila esta cumbia and other parts of the concert. Cause once again Selena never took her top off during disco medley
I was thinking the same, she did a great job, just as the guy who played the role of Freddie Mercury.... But none of them deserves an Oscar for dancing and lip-syncing, no matter how well they played their role.
@@luisbedolla3264 JLo had to fit an entire concert into a 3-5 minute shot . So yes , although Selena didn’t take her jacket off during the disco medley, jlo still had to incorporate that into the scene , which is why she uses dance moves from other songs with the disco medley.
I liked Jennifer's performance but any time there are side by side comparisons with Selena I cannot stop watching her. Selena had a presence that no one can match

Creo que para todos esta película tiene un valor sentimental enorme. La mayoría crecimos viéndola en nuestra niñez/adolescencia. Yo la vi tantas noches por canal 5 (México), me encantaba tanto ver a esa chica llena de sueños y alegría, aun sin saber quién era (tenía yo escasos 4 o 5 añitos). Pero todos nos encariñamos demasiado con Selena, la película nos hizo sentirla tan cerca de nosotros que es por eso que es inevitable apreciarla mucho más que la nueva serie de netflix, que aunque no está mal, personalmente, espero que para la segunda temporada haya más acción y la actriz se desenvuelva más en el papel de Selena 💜
True but I don't think anyone could've made it better than Jlo, she's a dancer too, just that selena's natural moves aren't Jlo's naturals moves. She did really good in my opinion.

It's sad how haters discredit JLo so much by saying she would be nothing without Selena. She worked so hard and putted so much efforts in every detail. Not everybody can do this. Selena movie did great because of JLo's hardwork. Nobody could have done it except her. The Netflix series is an example. Just because you don't like her does not mean you'll discredit her all the time. Whatever JLo has today because of her talent and hardwork. She deserves respect!

Jlo did a great job but Selena is more graceful. The subtle movements of Selena that makes her unique. When Selena danced to the rhythm, they are very graceful, ladylike. J.Lo's movements to the rhythm was very rough and a bit manly. Even at the end when Selena waved her hand to the crowd, it was so graceful. Meanwhile, J.Lo waved her hand like a little kid 😂 Anyhow, thanks J.Lo for portraying Selena but there will always be only one Selena.
I think it has to do with the fact that Jennifer Lopez is a trained dancer who used to dance for Janet Jackson and on In Living Color. It's hard to unlearn what comes natural to you, so her dance style was bound to pop out. But she did such a great job! You can tell she studied the tape and tried to emulate Selena's movement, so it looked like a real Selena concert, even if she didn't always do the choreography spot on. In that respect, you do get an essence of Selena as a performer. It's hard to imagine anyone else doing a better job than Jennifer did with this role. Just look at how messy El Secreto de Selena looks... I'm praying for Netflix's Selena series.
Amen. Jlo is not a natural dancer. When doing routines, you can see her practically doing the count in her head. Selena was a natural so it just flowed. Jlo is mechanical.
Plus Selena had natural showmanship that you cannot just learn. It has to already be in you. She wanted the audience to have fun and give them a good time. They always got their money’s worth and then some with Selena.

JLO was my first introduction to Selena and is the reason I even started listening to Selena. Its still hard for me to separate the two! JLO was phenomenal at her portrayal. I believe JLO was the real Selena she was that good. If only she had the same vocal as her lol

I liked the way they did the concert scenes in the movie than the series because the movie at least showed her doing the dance moves while the series kept focusing on the waist up and not the full body movement..christian wasnt that bad in it but her dancing wasnt captured as good as the movie if that makes sense..I don’t know how to put it in words
