She probably had more notes within her range that were never recorded or showcased on stage. That F5 was solid so I imagine her falsetto may have spanned at least a few more notes.
If Selena were still alive she probably would have learned how to mix and she could have had even higher belted notes like Mariah, Celine, Whitney, Aretha, Patti etc..However, she did have a beautiful voice.
andres2157 but can Adele and Mariah sing as many genres as Selena did when she was only 23? Tejano, Mariachi, Pop, Rock, Reggae, R&B and the list goes on and on.... And not only that but she sang in both Spanish and English
She was great in the studio and on stage. But I think her live performances were much better. She was an amazing singer & live performer. She had perfect timing. She was such a natural performer. Definitely what she was meant to do. Someone with true talent remains alive after death. Her father a former musician himself & he recognized the rare power & precise pitch in her voice. She was so effortless, dancing, spinning & at the same time hitting the right notes, etc. She had versatility & she had amazing footwork.
Selena has the exact tone of Mariah Careys voice. Suzette Quintanilla, her sister once talked about her vocal range saying "I believe that my sister has thin enough vocal chords to allow for higher vocal access, this might land her in the five octave range.", Abraham Quintanilla, was allegedly asked during Selena's 'I Could Fall In Love' recording session if she could reach the Whistle Register. He said "I'm not sure but her head voice indicates that she possibly might be able to.". We miss you.
So many people are overly - impressed by the whole "Whistle Register" thing, but that's not the same thing as overall vocal strength - which I think most people who really know Selena's music would have to admit she possessed more of than Mariah Carey - and, Selena was far more stylistically - versatile. She could sing ANYTHING, an ability that was rare even in the 90's, and is almost non - existent now. Most of the artists out there today know how to song only one style of music, but Selena could sing it ALL - she incorporated elements of pretty much every genre into her music, and was very innovative. She was definately one of the great "game changers" in the history of music, of which there have been relatively few.
Gosh I love and miss her. She had such a beautiful voice. I so wish she could have developed her voice more and learned to mix. She could have been a great upper belter. Her headvoice was nice too. Rest in peace sweetie
Thanks for sharing this video. Her voice always sounded larger than life so I am surprised she sang in less than three octaves, but perhaps she hadn't explored her entire range in the studio (e.g. her head voice may have gone further than just the notes she recorded).
glad they finally have a vocal range for her...i remember that day she died. everyone at school was so sad and depressed. it felt like one of our own friends had died. may she RIP
hi i think ur vid is gr8 bu if u get her dreaming of you album or la leyenda album, you'll see that her lower register extends to a Bb2. not judging, just a helpful hint.
I really hate that they were shuffling (skipping) through all the songs i wanted to hear all of them and i know nothing about octaves and which are high but i know she had a good voice
She does her teacher and producers and ppl from the record label said she did just because she never showed it doenst mean she dont have it. Just like Amy Winehouse has almost 4 octaves, but its 3.5 to be exact.
No, Selena never took any formal singing lessons. Like most of the truly great artists in the history of music, she just had a God - given ability. True artists are born, not made.
oooooo you tell em lol. Since your a vocal educator & have a bachelor's in vocal performance your able to point out all the notes a singer has & how many octaves right? How many octaves did selena have btw?
+Venraef oh yes just in live programs because something can fail... so they forces to do it. But her voice was powerfull :) singing and dancing without lose a note.
@Venraef The only times Selena ever lip - synced was when she was performing at places that couldn't accommodate the equipment needed to do a "live" show. She never lip - synced in concert, and tried to pass it off as "live vocals", like some of the artists out there today. She didn't have to.
that was me! I didn't think it would get around the internet like it has but I did it years ago and posted it on her chatboard, then people kept reposting it other places and not saying it's not real.
Guys, stop attacking this girl! She didn't SHOW 4 octaves, so in the books she didn't have it. Could she literally have this amazing 4 octave range? Sure. But she never showed it. You can also say hey, I bet Selena Gomez has this 5 octave range, whistle register, amazing voice.. But she isn't showing this. See we can't make assumptions like this. I do feel like she could have gone higher, but she never did.
Not constantly feeling like you have to "show" your full range doesn't necessarily mean you don't have it, any more than a highly - intelligent person not constantly feeling like they have to prove their intelligence means they don't have it. Both use it to whatever extent they need to at a given time.
Selena gave what a particular song called for. She wasn't the type who constantly felt like she had to prove something. Besides, "octaves" is not nearly as important as song interpretation or stylistic versatility. High octaves don't necessarily make a great song. But, the notion that Selena could only sing in 2 octaves is ridiculous.
she only displayed 2 octaves and 3 notes. what you see her is her vocal range. as a singer i have 3 octaves from F2 to G5. if she had 4 octaves she would have to start from D3 and go well into the 7th octave. she never did that. she never displayed any hint of having that big of a range.
