Self heating packaged foods have been around in Western markets for some time. They're not that popular because it's more expensive. Most people have access to a stove or microwave oven at home or in office.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flameless_ration_heater That's what they're called. They're best known for the ones in the MRE's but unless you were in the military you probably would never know about it.
This would be great in emergency kits for extreme weather like hurricanes. I live in a very hurricane prone area. We have easy access to water, if we prepare like we are supposed to, but electricity is harder to come by if we get hit HARD by a big hurricane. These would be an easy hot meal when evacuating or getting to higher ground.
I like that you always told us, what the stuff inside the meal is. As a european, I had a hard time, guessing what kind of vegetables are in the last kit. 😂
I've always known about self-heating hotpot from Chinese novels, but I never thought it does actually heat on its own. I thought it was something similar to instant noodles where you put boiling water to cook. I was mindblown. 🤣
I love the fact that these are out now compared to years ago when it was just for MRE rations in the US army, the RAF here in the UK, Japan etc (I watch a lot of MRE ration food vlogs lol) and this is a way of taking food out to say picnics or if you go to soccer/football games (that's if they allow you lol) or if you go camping/fishing etc.
Most things start of as military tech...the Internet was military tech, so was GPS and now we have it all on a small device which we can hold in our hands :) This self heating pack is for good picnics and camping
Speaking of MREs... For whatever reason, there is either an extra surplus of "lower sodium beef chili MREs" or the US government has issued them out to food banks for some reason... Our local food banks (places where food is donated to lower income or homeless people) have given my parents a few of these weird "MRE" packs. The thing that makes me think that they were issued for charities is that they're kinda wimpy for MREs. They come in a HUGE packet and have a 3 year shelf life. That's it. No self-heating, no single servings, etc... Just a HUGE (not plastic) family-sized packet of extremely cheap chili. There is some sort of U.S. seal of approval on them. So there's that. Nothing will ever beat the time the food bank gave us a bulk bag of dried out 100% textured soybean protein though... I managed to make "plant meat" out of it, but it's still funny to think about how the food bank got THAT of all things. Even funnier, it was a product aimed at vegans originally meant to be sold in stores.. I guess they just couldn't manage to sell that bag in time? 😂
If I remember correctly it should be calcium nitrate reacting with water to produce heat. Twenty-some years ago we had this before microwaves became a common thing in convenience stores.
I saw something like this in the anime movie called “Cowboy Bebop”. It was for instant noodle in a cup. There was a string attached almost to the base of the cup. The guy pulled the string and the noodle got instantly cooked. In the future, we might have something cooked as fast as pulling a string.
The wrappings are for enduring pressure from being thrown around in catastrophic situations, dufus. Where else would you need a self heating pad for other than situations where heat isnt available
Awesome! I wonder why they don't have those kinds of packages here in the USA! I love Chinese Taiwanese Japanese foods and especially that last one looked like it was amazingly delicious!
It might be a good idea to buy it for lunch from work or school. Not only for those recipes. I'm talking about the bag that is heated with water, to use it on any food
1:26 THE WAY HE OPENED THE SEASONING PACKET GAVE ME ANXIETY! LIKE I SHAKE IT TILL ALL THE SEASONINGS AT THE BOTTOM THEN OPEN IT AND TURN IT OVER. JUST ME ?
If this existed in my country it would really help the students who are living in boarding houses with no cooking materials because they're expensive and not allowed

Better solution is ask your local chinese supermarket.
Very good video :) Well planned, well edited, ticks all the boxes! The lack of commentary actually feels good for a change, compared to other RU-vid videos!
why though? Aside from showing some magnesium magic, all they'll see is something that barely resembles eatable food. Even the worst cantine at work has better food.
Well it's quite interesting to see.as a chemistry student i think there is something in heating packet that when comes contact to H2O(water) exothermic reaction happens.for which heating Occured.as he added water i think that is calsium oxide inside the pouch.☺
