I had no idea who Frank James was until about a week ago when I began a quest to figure myself out (INFJ). But now I’m totally addicted to the hypnotic, soothing sounds of an FJ ramble! My question for you is where exactly in the NE US does the accent come from? I’m from Dallas and I love it!

It helps us to understand why people are fascinated by INFJ's. This is what they are talking about, why they are drawn to us! We are kind-hearted and deeply philosophical. Totally epic, but incredibly awkward too.

I grew up in the swamp where there’s zero light pollution and every time I go home to visit, I have to be careful not to look up at the night sky while others are around, because I’ve learned how immediate the feeling of overwhelm hits me (read: abrupt crying) for EXACTLY what you are saying. I mean, 1000 years ago some Native American was looking at the same exact stars (standing in that same spot for all I know) and maybe also being overwhelmed with that sense of bigness/smallness - and that kind of connection is nuts for someone that generally feels pretty disconnected to everyone around her. Love your videos as always. Q&A Ideas: - Was there a time in your life when you thought you had it all figured out? - Fav episode of Seinfeld? Alternatively, I’d live for a review of some dating apps/sites from your perspective.

I live not too far a drive from the Painted Hills in Oregon, and the first time I went there I was similarly awestruck -- not just by the connection with all the explorers and Natives who'd stood in awe before me, but with the birds and snakes and bugs and grasses that had witnessed this place since long before there were humans on this land. Creatures who inhabited such a wondrous place that probably had no concept of the kind of aesthetic beauty that you or I can see in it. For ages it existed as "just another place," until WE saw an extra dimension of beauty and meaning within it. That meaning doesn't exist until we create it, which is a terrifyingly humbling way to learn that you are, in a certain sense, a god. So yeah. I know those feels.

I just discovered you through a friend of mine who won't stop talking about how wise and inspiring you are, my friend actually has a huge problem with having the courage to reach out to someone they like a lot and just take the risk or the leap of faith to just believe that possibility can happen and they never know what can happen unless they just do what scares them the most, and its inspiring from an infj that you encourage sorta stepping out of your comfort zone to just try to see and realize just how much you truly are capable of, its wise and incredible words from an infj, a type that usually will not step out of their comfort zone because of their fear of what could happen, but sometimes those things that could happen could be life changing in the most amazing of ways unimaginable. So thank you for being one of the infjs that are brave enough to come out and create a voice for us introverts and help us see that not just introverts, but everyone, is capable of do much more if they take those scary cgabces.

“How sweet the moonlight sleeps upon this bank! Here will we sit, and let the sounds of music creep in our ears: soft stillness and the night become the touches of sweet harmony.” ~Shakespeare It’s interesting to note how many times Shakespeare personified celestial bodies to describe the human experience. “There are heavenly bodies and there are earthly bodies, but the beauty and glory of the heavenly bodies is of one kind, while the beauty and glory of earthly bodies is a different kind. The sun is glorious in one way, the moon is glorious in another way, and the stars are glorious in their own way; for one star differs from and surpasses another in its beauty and brilliance.” 1 Corinthians 15:40-41 I remember having a similar reaction gazing at one of the most colossal orange-pink moons I had ever seen. I came out of the theater where I was performing and to my astonishment that was the moon looking at me. There is something about celestial bodies that makes you think about your place in the world and puts everything into perspective. You suddenly realize someone had to have created such a brilliant object and therefore created a human being capable of such marvelous feats. It makes being able to endure the pain of existence that much more palpable. To know that all your suffering is not in vain, but that there is an intended purpose for it to strengthen you in some way and give you an insight into the world that no one else could ever know. When you consider the finiteness of life it removes the self-imposed limitations and all of the perceived obstacles from accomplishing your dreams dissipate in light of this new revelation. You were created for a reason and purpose and once you believe that in your heart no one can take that away from you.

"The nitrogen in our DNA, the calcium in our teeth, the iron in our blood, the carbon in our apple pies were made in the interiors of collapsing stars. We are made of star-stuff.” ~ Carl Sagan I was actually looking up at the moon last night and thinking specifically about connection. It comforted me as it often does. Moon gazing is something I do periodically ever since I can remember and I think about different things but always related to the... moon themes, I guess one could call them, mentioned in the video. My favorite moon quote is: "The finger pointing at the moon is not the moon." The quote is not exact but I think it comes from Buddhism. Along with the story of the Blind Men and the Elephants, it is one of my favorite quotes ever about perspective in general and for me apply significantly in my personal studies of comparative religion. "All that we see or seem Is but a dream within a dream. I stand amid the roar Of a surf-tormented shore, And I hold within my hand Grains of the golden sand-- How few! yet how they creep Through my fingers to the deep, While I weep--while I weep! O God!" ~ E.A. Poe That last quote is in reference to the paradox of realizing our own insignificance while at the same time recognizing the preciousness and beauty of even a grain of sand. It lets us off the hook when we allow ourselves to think 'so what if we fail.' And when we can let go of that fear of failure and that attachment to perfection then perhaps we can aim higher and strive for excellence and meaning instead. From there we can possibly achieve more than we might otherwise dare to dream.

Carl Sagan is a personal favorite of mine; happy to see someone quote him down here in the comments of this video. I think Sagan’s magic is that he doesn’t sacrifice his childlike awe at the hands of scientific, evidence-based observations and studies in cosmology, but balances them so beautifully.

I find it crazy watching this video when you mentioned having looked up at the moon and been awed. The awe coming from this realization that all of humanity as we know it has been looking up at the sky as we currently see it since we first walked the earth. I did just this only a few days ago when I was out for a walk at night. I remember tilting my head back and without changing my walking pace just kept my eyes locked on the moon, deep in thought, with a similar feeling. It is important to understand one's place in the universe and it's impressive that you so quickly realized you would rather let it fuel you than degrade you. Love the makeup tutorials, still waiting for that mascara review!

"I could really blow my expectations out of the water and far surpass what I think I'm capable of...let's see am I capable of lighting myself?" *Instantly thinks of actually lighting yourself up with fire* I was like damn...hahah Jokes aside I really needed to hear this, I was about to write a long post about self doubt, constant negative thoughts and how to work with it, then saw the notification for your video ✨. I really relate to doing the self comparisson to the universe. I often stare at the sky when not feeling well, it really helps to put things in perspective. How I'm this small yet there's this feeling of a huge isolated world inside me. I'm just part of this universe and shouldn't take things so serious, things aren't as big as they seem inside. The brain has a funny way of making things feel 100x bigger and once over them, you're like "huh that wasn't that big of a thing". It feels as if so much weight and expectations for myself just get lifted after doing that and am able to once again breathe...at least for a bit.

Maaaann this is gold!! Very very interesting insight Frank. Love it! You just gave me a boost of motivation. Hopefully it will take me somewhere though XD. Hmm, I image you're in that phase where you were having shitty self doubt issues recently then one day your mind just starts to wonder about the world and everything in it along with galaxies and the universe.. linking it to how we can live our life and see it in a new perspective. I gotcha Frank.

This video made me so happy. I've been having this same thoughts and talks about how all of us have seen the same moon and the same sun since the beginning of everything. That's why I so love celestial events like eclipses. I feel the focus of millions of people looking at the same thing I'm seeing and it just thrills my soul.

So nice to hear someone say the same things I think about! Whenever I feel overwhelmed, I think of how small I am in this huge universe. At the same time, I have a feeling that my life does matter somehow. All this makes me feel better for some reason. Thanks for the pep talk. I do think we can achieve a lot when we have a focused plan and work hard at it, but I see nothing wrong with living what people would call an "ordinary" life. If a person desires to be rich and famous, then go for it. However, I have heard from enough people who have all those things to know that it does not make you happy. And I think being happy is what everyone is really after, happiness and peace and love. Money and fame won't give you those things.Contentment, I feel, is better. I just recently downsized into a new (to us) house and I am amazed at how much better I feel with less stuff! Is good to want to help lots of people, but at the same time my suggestion is to let things happen as they may and pursue happiness and choose contentment in the process. Q: What is your book about? Congrats on 6K!

I feel great comfort watching the sky too. A few weeks ago I wrote this: “I went out to throw the trash. On the way back I stopped and watched the starry sky. I love how watching the sky usually manages to put things in perspective. I let out a breath and saw it disappear, mingle with the unseen in wordless communion. I was one with the world without anything being said, without anything being communicated. I guess that’s the thing, we can’t expect to be understood, we’re lucky to be accepted. What is in our hearts we can’t fully grasp ourselves, less convey to anybody else. I’m trying to be okay with that.”

Act I - definitely common for people to have false beliefs about themselves, and there are even patterns to the kinds of ways people tend to think that psychologists have observed, which I’ve encountered in the form of 18 “distorted thoughts” or “distorted thinking” from psychology. I was amazed when I saw it because I often felt like I was having all sorts of uniquely unhappy thoughts, but then found that actually a lot of people have the same patterns of thinking. CBT therapy is an interesting approach because it leads you to question what evidence you have to support your distorted thinking (usually the evidence is weak in reality) and to consider alternative possibilities for what you could think, possibilities which are just as likely if not more supported by reality. But of course it’s a process. Act II - stargazing: definitely my favorite thing to do in this world, for precisely the same kinds of reflections it evokes. Always nice to have the company of someone who also feels the same.

Finally I hear it in this way from someone else as well, an INFJ too for that matter ( so I get your perspective and "feel" for it of course ). It is SO freeing, energetic and a source of perspective( my greatest source ). When my eyes and my being is under the nakedness of the sky, and especially the moon - I'm free for a moment, truly. Thanks for sharing my homie! I realized a couple weeks ago I’ve spent much of my adult life being afraid of who I am and what I could become. It’s like self sabotage. One of your recent videos where you felt you should have said something to help someone else is the sweet spot- that’s where it’s at. Realizing we were made to give something to others is what pushes me to get out of my shell and it’s a like this false sense of humility to disqualify yourself when you’ve got something to give.

your fascination with celestial bodies, ohya..i get that...& it makes me have to tell a little story here...i'll make it as short as possible. before i got my EMS cert or the two PC degrees i was working 10-12 hr shifts at the hospitals rehab...and that is where i met my beloved hubby..but..at the time..i was still very much a prisoner of my ex monster. a title well earned given him by his coworkers, not me. They finally found a way to get rid of him so it fell on me to be the wage earner as he was holding out for a management position that paid what he had been getting..lol. He had 4 kids so insurance was a must. thus..being a responsibility freak, i was trapped. Back to the facility, i was down on my knees in dirt cleaning up a mess someone had made...and..felt eyes on me...burning..i looked up..to see the most beautiful emerald eyes i had ever seen..staring..this..I Want You stare..at me...took my breath away...on breaktime..he found me again,..and i told him..aint no way...but..ex monster..had his own thing going on with old GF while i was working..and she gave him a me or her thingy..so..i was set Free! ...except..financially...he wanted the $ until he found a proper job so..would not grant a divorce till he got what he wanted..anyway...future hubby & i became best friends...nothing more..cos..INFJ morals..& all that junk....then one day..he asked me to marry him..i said..we have not even went out on a date....he replied at least i didn't say no..lol. & we went out...ex monster got wind of it and tried to kill me by cutting my brakes....so...i found a place to hide where he could not find me..and the guys at work would watch my lil truck & chase him away when he came near it. Meanwhile..i stopped seeing future hubby..& he was really crushed..as was i...but..cheered up..with Hope when i told him...whereever you are..go to your window..or outside..and look up at the stars...& know im doing the very same thing...we are together there & No One can take that from us. Maybe that sounds corny..but it's what i believe...& it made him a believer too. i also told him..the moon..the stars..are always there..even if we can't see them thru fog, smog or clouds..they are still there. & so are we. Thank You for bringing back that memory

And also how you keep your identity And recharged while in relationships with people who are (inevitably) different than you?

Peace FJ. Dope outro. Once one gets over the "'Messiah'/Martyr" dilemma, we can smile freely knowing the same side of the moon needs to see you shine brightly. It *HAS* to! Cuz, it's *ALL* relative to one another. Respect!

You are funny! Thanks for making me smile this morning! A humbling experience for me is sitting on the rocky shore near my home and looking out on the ocean and wooded landscapes in the distance without even a hint of any civilization in any direction and thinking if I sat here a thousand years ago, I would probably be looking at the exact same scene. It fills me with such inner peace. A question for Friday, why do you like Neptune so much?

That was good! Really good. Thank you. I need to go journal your perspective on “what matters” if you don’t mind... the analogy may very a squeak different, some day I’ll write the analogy of infinity I heard, anyway I needed to hear that. Slowly yet surely I’m opening back up to the world... too long a story to be told 🤫

I gotta say that this is the weirdest and yet most amazing self-help guru I had ever watched. I mean, I am not somebody with very low expectations, as a perfectionist the expectations are actually quite high, but a problem was that in the end the expectations were too high and close to unachievable. Though I am always the best girl in class (or person in general) when it comes to assessing and rating my own achievements in front of the teachers. I was told I was pretty good at that.

What about dealing with heart crushing disappointment though? If you raise your expectations you set yourself up for that one. When I look at the stars and other celestials, I get that perspective thing hit too, it makes me feel like i'm nothing (yet also part of something immense at the same time, without even trying) which is great & liberating. When you're nothing, or should i say, insignificant, there's no pressure, no striving...you can just enjoy the moment. 'cause the moment is all there is afterall and it's pretty amazing to be experiencing a moment at all.
@FrankJames
@FrankJames 6 лет назад
I think there's a distinction though between having expectations for yourself and your own abilities in general and then having expectations for specific outcomes. At the very least, I think being disappointed is better than thinking you're so crappy that you never even try. You know what I mean?
@bwiel
@bwiel 6 лет назад
Yeah I guess, to a degree. :) But I also think it's good to know your limitations and be ok with them. Self acceptance is a good thing too.

Part 1. I really needed to hear this today. It's always easier to encourage others and to make them believe they can do anything. This morning I woke up with the mantra "It's impossible." Thank you. Part 2.(haha) You reminded me of a scene from 'Joe verses the Volcano '. Everything is lost, he's on a raft in the middle of the ocean , the woman he loves may be dying and he witnesses a moonrise. It's a turning point of his character. He says "I forgot how big...". I forgot too. Thanks for the reminder.

Nice, Frank! Great way to look at life and possibilities.All that talk about the universe reminds me of another classic 🎵 "Desiderata" based on a poem. Heard it? The chorus says "You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars. You have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should." So we should all let ourselves be/do what we aspire to. I'm certainly trying. Thanks for all the encouragement you give to us, your subs.😊✌💜

“If you fail, who cares” 🙌🏻😌 Q&A: -Do you ever feel restless/lost in your job and if so, how do you deal? (I have a 2.5 to 3 yr run before I hit a wall and I feel like I’m coming out of my skin being in the same room looking at the same employees. Do other ppl get this way? Just an infj thing? Just a me thing?) I imagine the answer is along the lines of your “why infjs leave relationships” vid but still interested to hear your thoughts. And is accounting your dream job? Do you enjoy films? What are you into currently/favorites? Is your room green with a little yellow? Or yellow with a lot of green? Like the new outro music, btw:)

My favorite Bible verse talks about our relation to the incredible, terrifying, beautiful stars and space. (Psalm 8:3-5) When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him? You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. I get that doesn't mean anything to a lot of people, but I connect the sentiments you just shared with my faith and it's a crazy comparison. How incredibly finite we feel when looking out into space, so insignificant, but here we're told how valuable we are. I've always been obsessed with space and the deep sense of wonder and awe and belonging/connection that it gives me. Beautiful beyond words. :)

I am an INFJ with E tendencies. With the latest test it was 54% I and 46% E. So I feel like an interloper here sometimes. Anyway, thought I would just put that out there so you could gauge your audience...Maybe it's an E thing to let you know that.. OR...it's because I'm under the influence of the Blue Devil Hoocie Juice. In any event....

Very good and very true! And the best part is we do t have to be perfect to do something great! Even if we have made mistakes and and those are the thing that holds us back we can take that leap of faith and just do that next right thing and like you said exceed all expectations that we have placed on ourselves or that others have placed upon us. This reminds me of David in Psalm 8 he says ... 3 When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; 4 What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?

It's may! I've been following you for a bit. Found you when I found out taking the test a couple times and I thought it would change never has.... to be a INFJ.... I'm close about getting a therapist. But it's hard for me because I'm so picky on someone to know someone like an INFJ with my traumas and depression. It's weird I didn't think I was always infj when I was younger I thought I was more out going but after being bullied so much for people thinking my outgoing is annoying it changed me to change and not want to be annoying and out there....... But yay and no may my birthday month.... And being infj being hard to connect to people... the only person I've been able to be close to has been my mom but she's gone now from cancer recently... And I feel empty ... And I watch your videos I love them makes me feel I'm not alone on how I feel and go through.... Idk you have a lot of comments and followers now I wouldn't maybe you'd read mine....

Frank, thank you so much again for another upload! It's so nice to see you smile, it made me smile as well. I've read some people's comments mentioning ur soothing voice. Well, the other day I started to fall asleep whilst listening to you. In a good way though! I've been fighting really hard against my emotions for months which is exhausting. Now with new perspectives on life I'm doing my best to acknowledge my feelings which is also very tiring. Q&A questions: *Will you ever do an asmr video 😁 just whispering would be awesome... *What is ur favorite kinda music? I'm very curious about fellow INFJ music tastes, so feel free to share! I actually don't listen to music anymore, however I found myself the other day for my healing journey listening to songs from way back when I was younger. Linkin park, Evanescence, Enya. I also used to dance and listen to reggaeton years back. I loved the rhythmic beat, so sensual. I found out the Gaelic new age kinda music Enya has really took me to another amazing beautiful place. I can't describe it, somewhere I belong. Keep on shining!👍 Peace 🌟

I watch a few INFJs on RU-vid (one of them has millions of subscribers and doesn't identify himself with MBTI, but I know he is). And what you guys are really good at is starting the video by talking articulately about a problem you've been going through, analyze it in a very self-reflective way, and by the end of the video you've turned it into an advice/motivational speech for other people.
@FrankJames

Frank, you make me swoon. I have such an Internet crush on you. Part 2 of your video is something I've come back to over and over again in my mind. Pretty much every time I see the moon. It calms me more than anything, that constant reminder that we are just in space. (Living in a coastal climate, the only complaint I have about the weather is that I seldom see stars because of the marine layer.) I was driving home from Santa Barbara, a town between the ocean and a massive mountain range, and watching the moon peek over the mountains was really something special. I can't wait to hear about your favorite mascaras!
