You outdid yourself!! The old Ford had a Chief Wahoo decal. That was heartwarming! Early morning fog, moving all your machinery, then splittin' wood! You used your tractor bucket for staging (such an elegant solution to solve backaches!). Your elevator was moving at a sensible pace, enough to carry the wood, not so fast to wear itself out by dinnertime! How big is the engine on the Split Force? Mine's 15 hp, but yours is way faster, although I never run mine at full throttle. Try to keep it at about 80%. Just a great video!! Even the corners were interesting!

Good morning from the farm in the western Ozarks. Mild and windy today ahead of forecast rain tomorrow. Another week of the 40s F at night, 70s in the day, then just as prescribed for deer season, we switch to 30-50. For our international friends, that’s 5-8/18-22C this week, 0/10C next. Good for work this week, hunting next week. I’m brushing in blinds and setting up mock scrapes today, then repairing a stretch of fence where a tree decided it wanted the space more than I did. I’ll win this battle, but not without casualties. And the forest will eventually win the war.

Oh yes! Cutting, splitting and stacking wout once having to bend over and lift the weight is most definitely working smarter! When you finish that project you slide into the next w a smile and no pain! I agree w you 100% on the blue splitter, being able to size your wood so easily. On a busy day I can see you and Melissa splitting on the Wolfridge, loading into the bunker and Levi splitting w the blue into the dump trailer making bundle wood to be wrapped. Wow. 8 hours a day for one week would knock next winter's supply out, up and finished! Not that you'd do that but it could be done. Very nice! Another channel in Florida decided to upgrade from their Wolfridge. This splitter takes the whole pole, moves it into position, a fixed chainsaw cuts the round dropping it down. Move pole forward and round gets split. But....the wedge is not big enough to split the round completely. The operator has to reach down inside the machine and lift half round pieces out and over the wedge to push it through again. The splits go up a conveyor and drops into a basket like yours. Not stacked, just dropped and they sell that amount for $100. I still think you've got the best setup I've seen. Having the right tools for a job will save not only time but your back also! I really enjoyed Off The Leash yesterday, Stanley and Ruger was such a touching video, it really touched my heart, loved it. Thank you and Melissa for giving us such good wholesome content. This type of content is needed so much today. You guys are awesome, I love you all.👍🚜❤🇺🇸🇺🇸

I think I'm sold on the new splitter, especially for bundled firewood as you mentioned. It seems you get far more 'squared off' pieces which in my mind makes for faster and easier bundles. However, the 4 and 6 way splitter for bulk makes a lot of sense as well. Carry on and enjoy what you're doing. You got it covered!

Hi Mike, something well worth considering on the prefab cabin. If you were to go with a full basement with 7 foot ceiling height for the cabin and if it can be located on a slope, you could then have a walk out basement with two 4 foot wide (double door, 8 foot total width) that provides you with easy access safe indoor storage for tools and other equipment.

@earlhollar1906
@earlhollar1906 Год назад
@@davidmorse8432 I agree with that, two large ABC extinguishers. I would also put a couple of pressurized water extinguishers where a lot of wood is being stored a small cap full of detergent and it sprays a lot of foam for quite a while they last a lot longer than the ABCs. When they're spent you have to take them someplace to get them recharged. With the water ones all you need is an air compressor and a water hose, just for wood , not oil, grease, electric or any of that!

I have a similar vintage Vermont Castings in my shop. Sister-in-law had it in their original ski lodge in the U.P., but it wasn’t EPA compliant after a while, so the disassembled and stored in their basement for about 25 years. Rather than scrap it, they asked about my shop, which I had just created out of an old farrowing house. It’s quite a good addition! It could get use starting this weekend, too, here in the western Ozarks.

Good morning, Mike. I had a comment on the last video with this splitter about putting your finished pieces to your right side, but I didn't send it. You figured it out. I do have another comment on what you did today. When you have a round split and ready to go into the conveyor, just push the whole bundle at once into the hopper rather than handling each piece individually with your left hand. I'm sure you're going to figure that out as well. Like the idea of unloading from the dump trailer at waist height. I would prefer the Wolf Ridge for my firewood because I have an outdoor wood furnace, and I like large chunks to go into it. I also use up to 22" lengths in the furnace. My furnace will actually hold longer pieces than what the splitter can split. What is the longest round the Wolf Ridge will handle? Sometimes, I have to split my rounds from the side if my round is too long, but that is not a problem for the splitter I have. Unfortunately, I don't have the wings to catch the pieces, which means I have to manually lift them back up onto the splitter for additional splits. One problem for me is the door to the fire box in so small, that it can not take pieces that are to wide. Large pieces are best for overnight fires in extreme cold weather. Have a great day and as always, be careful.
@marcelw223
@marcelw223 Год назад
Exactly, well said, and hold the round in the middle so you don't have to worry about your fingers. I like how versatile it is for a single engine self propelled, splitter, variable speed conveyer, controlled splits and very little trash. Also great for large or small rounds and you're not bent over, so easy on the back too. Nice smooth lift for large rounds.
@wknlogger4598
@wknlogger4598 Год назад
Your exactly right about keeping the log as a hole until it’s all split then with your right hand, you slide it in the conveyor. Also, keep the log as close to the beam as you can. Another trick when you have larger logs then the wedge is to remove a third of the log then rotate it 90 degrees then remove another third. You put those 2 pieces aside and split them after youre done splitting the log you resized properly to fit the wedge.

Mikey, regarding the 2 circulating fans you mentioned in the new building to move the woodstove air from the game room side into the garage side..... I think you will be better off with 1 fan mounted up high moving the hot air from the game room side and another fan mounted low near the floor to move the cold air from the garage side back to woodstove. At least, that has been my experience heating with wood.

Love the powersplit. The only drawback that I’ve learned from watching videos is that the pedal has a longer action that the Axis. The Acis has a great suspension for towing but is impractical for moving from site to site because it’s so heavy. The ability to move the PS around the yard is fabulous and combined with precise split capabilities, you are spot on that it’s a great woodyard machine. If I ever decide to process more than 30 cord per year, I’ll own one too! Great for the bundle portion of your business. I like your thought process related to machine/equipment use and versatility so pretty please answer a question: I need a dump trailer and want it to be as versatile as possible. I’m thinking that a flatbed that I can mount a electric winch and small boom in to hoist big rounds from other locations would be helpful and more versatile than a standard sided unit. I can always add sides hen hauling split wood, gravel, and soil and would like to be able to mount a splitter in the trailer to split into totes that I can fork off from the sides. Any thoughts on this idea? I also want a goose neck for maneuverability.

I can see the benefit of of the self-propelled but the design doesn't allow for the shards and other waste/debris to get off the work platform, so it very quickly fills up rather than falling through a grate. If you're selling premium hospitality-grade firewood where you need extremely consistent 2" square firewood pieces the vertical self-propelled splitter is the way to go, but otherwise it's not worth the extra clean up required compared to a push-through splitter.

The only insulation it has is the bubble wrap and no metal on the walls or ceiling and I bought a small stove to heat it and I find myself cracking a door after a while. Your stove is twice the size, you will have to open that patio door and a door out in the shop part if you ever get a big fire going!
