Jeff, this video tutorial was crazy helpful. There’s no one in You Tube explaining exactly how to update a personalized order in Printify. Thank you for showing us the way!
Jeff!!!! Let’s just say you blow Printify’s chat away. I hate chatting with them because it’s a lot of back and forth and after about 30 mins. Into the chat I’m still scratching my head and even forget what I initially asked them to begin with lol. You have been my GO TO RU-vidR to answer all of my questions. Thank you so much for taking the time to explain EVERYTHING. You are truly the most accurate and detailed person to help with print on demand products.
Great question! I am not 100% certain when the print file is "locked in" with the print provider. If you have another order with a different personalization and the first order has not shipped yet, I personally would probably just be safe and copy the listing to change the personalization. If I find out any more specific info about that I will let you know!
What a wonderful job breaking this down! You are amazing. Thank you so much for taking the time to explain everything step by step. Very impressed. Wishing you all the best! Keep up the great work!
@@PODinsights I appreciate all that you do! It really helped me to fine tune my listings. Again you have a wonderful process. Thanks again have a wonderful night. And thanks for taking the time to share your gratitude.
Thank you so much for this great explanation! Question: When you get to the billing portion, is the customer's billing info already filled out or do I have to use my credit card for the customer's order?
Hi! The customer's information does come through on the order on Printify but it is just the shipping address/contact info because Printify does not receive any funds from Etsy. The order fulfillment costs are covered by your Printify account balance or the payment method you have on file. I hope that helps!
awesome video. after watching numerous videos about this very topic, and YOU explained it step be step and very detail. i'm glad you also explain the two methods of personalizing the item. thank you and i will surely look forward to viewing more of your videos.
Great explanation video! One question, is there a particular POD supplier that people tend to use more than others strictly for easy customer personalization, so the customers can upload images or text?
Hi! You don't have to do anything specific with your product variants to offer personalization. The customer will be able to select the color/size variants through the same drop-down menu on the listing page and then the personalization box will be separate for them to enter what they would like. It comes through on the order like a free-form text field separate from the size/color information. I hope that helps!
Great job! Does Printify know what you are doing? They should use your videos on "How To?" section. Thanks so much! It was really helpful. PS: First time I saw you without cap :) totally different person lol
Thank you for making this video! As others have said, it took me days to finally find answers to my questions about doing these custom orders in Printify!
What provider what you recommend to use? For example, if someone is from the UK selling on Etsy, do you recommend someone using a provider from the UK?
Jeff, Thank you so much for the video, I just opened my Etsy shop and am planning on doing customized items. What is the difference between creating the listing on Printify first Vs creating the listing on Etsy first? some videos show these two options but it's unclear what would be best to do. Thank you again for taking the time to put these videos together for the newbies, Blessings!
This is an awesome video. I hope you still answer questions. Is it possible to create the product on Etsy and not link to Printify and then just create an order in Printify when you get them?
I think I found an easier way but maybe not...I just removed all of the skus when I publish through printify so the orders just go to other orders then you just choose the product when you do the order.
Hey Jeff, thank you for your videos they help a lot! I ran into a problem with this on printify. So I copied my original listing edited the copy saved it to draft and added it to the customers orders, where the problem came in is I get a lot of personalized orders so I was editing the edited file everytime and adding the updated edited listing to my customers one by one making sure the name matched with what they ordered. The print provider ended up messing up 9 of my orders and sending the customers the wrong names and printify would not help. So now I do separate edited listings for each customer.
Hi! That definitely is one downside to Printify not having a dedicated workflow for personalized orders. I also keep separate drafts for personalized orders and avoid reusing one until the previous order has shipped, so I end up with a good number sitting around too.
how many days do you add to the custom listing opposed to a regular not custom item? do you use to batch modify them at a certain time of day or on the spot as they come?
hi Jeff, once again you make you lessons so clear and step by step thank you!! I'm new, since we work with both Etsy and Printify, when an order comes in do you check everyday Etsy or Printify under "orders"? which is your "hub" to keep eye on your sales each day? Printify I imagine since the orders are being processed there and then just Esty to check emails or questions directly from the customer, I'm i correct? in short where to you look all the time for incoming orders. i didn't catch where do you know you have a "personalized order" how and where does it show up when and what they type in ? thanks so kindly, You're SUCH a brilliant teacher, very grateful each video...btw love your podcasts too super duper! :>)
Hi! The personalization requested by the customer shows on the Etsy order record. In your seller dashboard on the orders page, personalized items have a grey "personalizable" tag on them to help them stand out. The actual personalization entered by the customer shows under all the product variant details in the order. It does not come through on Printify so you need to get the personalization from the Etsy order info. I actually use my Etsy shop email (I use gmail) as the first place to monitor order information. The order info that comes through on email notifications does include the personalization. And more importantly, if the customer submitted a "note to seller" with the order it also shows in the email. I always look at the email first to see if it was a personalized item and if the customer attached a note that I need to respond to. If they sent me a separate message the email notification will also be there. After that, I go to Printify to review the order and submit it after doing the personalization. I only go to the order on Etsy right away if I need to respond to a message. Thanks for your support!
I have a question .. Do you need ALL of your POD items to be on manual for this to work, or can you set only your personalized items to manual on a one by one basis? If you have to set them ALL to manual, doesn't this create a lot more work as you have to constantly go in and manually submit the non-personalized orders?
Hi! Yes, to personalize an item in an order on Printify, you need to set your order fulfillment to "manual". Printify does not currently have an option to only hold orders flagged for personalization like Printful does. Setting your fulfillment to manual only makes it possible, but it won't be a viable solution for everyone. Personally I look at my Printify orders page every day either way, so I don't mind clicking the submit button on my other orders. But if you get a high volume of orders every day, it definitely would be time-consuming. I really hope at some point Printify gives us the ability to only hold orders flagged for personalization!
@@PODinsights I read on some reviews that if you add your own SKU within your ecommerce site (not on shipify), that printify will put your order into the "other" orders folder as it will not recognize the sku and therefore will not ship it until you approve. They say it works but I believe shipify advises against doing this. But I think the advice is mainly because of exactly what will happen .. it will not get automatically shipped. Make any sense? At that point .. you will need to do exactly as your video demonstrates to do with this unshippable order. You can personalize it first, then follow your excellent instructions.
As I’m watching.., we could leave the mock-up blank and maybe just edit the name in photoshop and just add the name as an overlay to the original graphic!
Thanks so much. I’m new and started just a few months ago with another provider but they have had many stock problems & I’m changing over to Printify and I have personalized items that I need to change over and was worried as to how it would work. Thanks again.
Hi Jeff, I noticed on the shipping page(towards the end of the video) that the shipping notification box to customer was not marked. Do we need to check that in order for the customer to get their tracking # or Printify still sends that info automatically, if the box is unchecked?
Hi! You don't need to use Printify's option for a shipping notification when you sell on Etsy. Printify will still send the tracking info over to your Etsy account when the order is shipped and Etsy will send the shipping notification to the customer. If you check the box on Printify, the customer will receive both. I hope that helps!
Hi! I wouldn't recommend updating the print file until the previous order has shipped, just in case Printify transmits the updated print file to the print provider. I'm not 100% certain when the print file is "locked in" but if an order hasn't shipped yet, there's a chance any updates might impact an order that's still in production. So I would create new/additional draft copies if you have multiple orders to fulfill at the same time.
Hi mate, sorry I'm extremely new to all this, but how do you know what the customer wants it personalised to? For example in your video how would you know he would want (John) on the mug?
Hi! The requested personalization shows on the order in your Etsy seller dashboard as well as in the email notification from Etsy if you receive those. I actually have a full walk-through video about creating a personalized product listing and then what an order looks like if you want to see a visual of it - this link should take you right to the part where I show an example order: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nMa18-kiHpM.html
Great info! Is there a way to personalize with photos? Say a customer submits a photo they want on a product rather than text, is there an easy quick way to do this?
Hi! Unfortunately Etsy doesn't have an automated way to collect the photo from the customer, but you can offer this by having them attach their photo to a message. So you would just need to put the instructions in your listing to send a message with the image attached after checkout. It will increase the likelihood of having to "chase" the customer if they forget to send the photo since it's not part of the checkout process, but it certainly can be done.
i started my listing in etsy and i made a template in printify. in printify i never published it so i go back in and edit the design on the shirt. What happens if i keep changing the draft in printify because i keep getting orders? does it change it for al my orders before they go into productioj???
Hi! You can keep editing/using the same draft listing, however it can impact orders that have not been fulfilled yet if you have lots of orders. It will not impact any orders that have already shipped of course, but if you make several edits while orders are still in product, it could change the print file that is used. I would suggest copying your draft to create a different listing for new orders if you still have orders that haven't shipped yet.
Thanks for sharing! This looks similar to the option that was suggested and I tested out in another video about personalized items: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-L28uX64IkV0.html I really like the option of having personalized products go to your "other orders" page because it lets you keep automatic order fulfillment for your non-personalized items!
Hi! Good question - on Etsy, it's not a baseline requirement that you promote your listings on social media just to gain traffic or make sales, because Etsy has millions of shoppers searching on the site daily. You will primarily have your listings found/viewed by optimizing your listing titles and tags with keywords that customers are searching for. At the same time, it certainly helps bring additional traffic directly to your shop when you share your products/designs on social media and gain followers, so I do recommend doing that, it's just not "required" in order to make sales.
Thank you so much for this tutorial! 🎉 silly question but I’m guessing you push the product from printify to etsy to begin with? Then when someone makes the order on etsy it goes into the other orders?
Not a silly question! Yes, the first step is to create/publish the product from Printify and it will either automatically sync to your Printify orders page if you leave the Printify SKU on the product variants, or it will go to your "Other" orders page if you remove or alter the Printify SKU for the product variants. If you're interested, I actually have a more recent video walking through the whole process from start to finish: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nMa18-kiHpM.html
Hi! The customer enters their personalization in the field that you enable on the Etsy listing. You cannot do that on Printify - you do it on Etsy after publishing the listing to your Etsy account. I actually have a more in depth video that walks through the entire process of creating a personalized product listing if you want to check it out: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nMa18-kiHpM.html
Can you help me understand what you're unsure about? You definitely can edit SKUs on your listings, but if they don't match with a product in your Printify catalog then they will go into your "Other Orders" tab like you mentioned. But that won't save you time when selling personalized products because you still have to manually import the order and match it up to a product variant after creating the personalized design/product.
Hi! I'm new to the POD world and have a question about customization: Is there an automatic preview for customers--that Etsy creates? Or do I create the image and send it to them? This may be obvious to some people, but I just wasn't sure if there's another step for me in the process! Thanks! And I really like your videos--very helpful. :)
Hi! Etsy does not have a feature to show customers a live previous of personalized items. If your design is the type where you want to let the customer approve before submitting it to production, you can message them a sample image as you mentioned. If the personalization is simple enough (ex: text only, one font choice, etc.) you don't necessarily have to send them the sample to approve before submitting it - I personally don't with basic text-only personalizations. I hope that helps!
I just completed my first personalized order on Printify with the help of your video! I am wondering if there is anything I need to do on the Etsy side. Under orders on Etsy, it has the option to 'complete order', but I don't know if clicking that will send it to Printify again so I haven't clicked on it. Is there anything I need to do on Etsy or is it all taken care of with Printify? Also, is there a way to mark my order as completed so it won't show as a new order still on Etsy? Thanks for all of your help!
Congrats on your first personalized order! If the order was imported in Printify (meaning you didn't create a new manual order), then it will automatically be marked complete on Etsy as soon as it ships. The tracking information also automatically uploads from Printify when the order is marked complete. If you placed the order manually on Printify (the order will say "manual" in the Order column of your Printify orders page), then it will not automatically mark the order complete on Etsy when it ships. I would not suggest marking the order complete on Etsy until the order ships from the print provider, because it when an order is marked complete, it looks like it was fulfilled/shipped to the customer and you won't have tracking information yet. I hope that helps!
Hi! Yes, you can create a listing with both sizes included, however Printify does not provide a way for you to combine them in your Printify account. I have a video showing how to do this in the Etsy listing: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CL40UsLUFz8.html
